We now have the materials eh. I mean, having current & projected 6-foot-8/6-foot-9/6-foot-10 in the youth level is now common unlike 2 or 3 decades ago. I remember, during the early 90's, parang subrang big deal na talaga that we had 6-9 Marlou Aquino, 7-foot EJ Feihl, 6-9 Bonel Balingit & 6-7 Chris Bolado.
Pinoy basketball players are getting bigger & unlike those "tall" Pinoy players that we had in the 90's like Feihl, Balingit & Bolado who were slow, clumsy & not that skilled, yung mga current "tall" players natin are in the different level. Karamihan sa kanila nakakapag dribble, nakaka tira sa labas, aren't awkward or clumsy, & are mobile.
We now have the materials but what we lack is a good system. Having the current Gilas program headed by Tab Baldwin is a good start. But I feel, we still need significant improvement in the system, in particular how we develop or groom our young good size bigs. The idea here is for for the likes of Lantaya, Lepalam, Demisana, Salvoro, Gagate, etc. to join the Gilas program as early as possible. Unfortunately, some of our tall big young hopefuls are handled by the evil forces, hence they can't commit to the Gilas program as of now.
