French NBA players 2008-09

LOL @ Johan Petro and other young players from France who jumped too early overseas to warm bench in the NBA...
Yeah, Petro is probably a candidate for the NBDL. Fortunately for our French friends, some of these other NBA players are doing well, like Diaw and Parker.
He started so far 33 games of 36 played. Huh, too much chances for Mr. Batum, I would say. All right, he is rookie, but c'mon man, he has finally to grab a chance(s) that coach McMillan gives to him since the start of the season.:)
And if we consider how anti-rookie and/or anti-Euro is McMillan oriented, he is really one lucky bastard.:p
Yes. I think McMillan is giving Batum plenty of chances and Batum is lucky to get them. I've read that Batum is a wonderful defender. I only saw him play in one game on TV and he was very good defensively. Portland has a lot of players who can score, like Roy, Fernandez, Aldridge, and Frye, so I guess Batum doesn't need to do a whole lot offensively. I think Portland should be concerned when they have both Batum and Oden on the floor though, because Oden also struggles to get points.

Batum is not a very bad offensive player. He is quite athletic, has good drive for his size, can shoot(make open threes, even if he has to get some space by himself). I didn't think at the start of the season he would get to play that much, but... I think, for the moment, he is doing his job ok. And when Webster will come back, well... He should get back his starting spot.

But, guys, you all are so harsch with Batum... I don't understand why! Rudy is only scoring twice as much with more playing time^^.

Petro, isn't even a candidate for NBDL, IMO.

Especially for a kid that just got 20 in december.

The only "luck" he had was with webster's injury. For the first game, outlaw was in the starting 5 despite some promises from Batum in pre season games.

Outlaw sucks as a starter and when mc millan plays either roy or rudy at the wing he lacks size. With his good start, batum managed to convince mc millan to give him some minutes (most were expecting bayless to get those).

He earned his playtime anyway as he's really consistent in defense (well cept against peja who seems to like scoring on his face :p) even if he sometimes seems to chose his games (decent against top teams basically).

When webster will be back, i doubt mc millan will change the starting 5 untill webster is fully recovered (and/or if batum sucks which can happen).

Looking forward (no pun intended) to seeing him gain more muscles though as that's something he really lacks and that could unleash his game .

Pietrus came back after missing 12 games. He's missed 22 of the last 27 games.

In his return, Pietrus nailed 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists.

With Pietrus returning, the Magic have the best three-forward rotation in the NBA: Turkoglu, Rashard Lewis, and Pietrus. I'd love to see those three players on the court at the same time, since Pietrus can easily play the two-guard, along with Howard.

Lay-up

Good game for Batum in a win against Utah last night. Batum had 16 points (4-5 threes!) in only 24 minutes. Great productivity as a starter!

Boris Diaw vs Wizards: 18pts + 3rebs + 3as
Charlotte - Washington: 92-89

Joakim Noah off the bench scored 4pts + 11rebs + 2blk vs Thunder(cats). Yep, Chicago won.:D

Ronny Turiaf in a loss vs Portland scored 12pts + 6rbs + 7as, all of that came in less than 20 minutes.

On the other side, Nicolas Batum as a starter 5pts + 4rbs. ()

jumpin early to the NBA is better than not having the chance at all

Boris Diaw last night: 15 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 shots blocked as his team beat the Wizards 101-89. He also turnovered 7 times the ball, but it is still some kind of a Kirilenko-esque game (or it is more appropriate Diaw-esque?).:p

Yes, it is the type pf game he needs to have, although he is not as good as kirilenko for defensive stats( not as tall, and not as long arms).

The NBA's forgotten Frenchmen, Ronny Turiaf, scored 14 points and 11 rebounds last night against Portland for the seven-point victory. He's one of those big energy players, like Malik Rose from San Antonio, who can really bring a lot of effort to every game.
Warriors Hang on to Beat Blazers - AP Sports, February 13, 2009

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP)—The Golden State Warriors are playing their best basketball of the season and Stephen Jackson believes he knows why: Ronny Turiaf.

Since replacing injured center Andris Biedrins in the Warriors’ starting lineup, Turiaf has provided Golden State with a big boost inside after doing the same off the bench all season.

Turiaf recorded his first double-double in nearly two years with 14 points and 11 rebounds while helping lead the Warriors to a 105-98 win over Portland on Thursday.

“He’s just been our brick wall,” Jackson said. “It’s just something where he’s behind us and he’s always there. He’s Mr. Reliable. He’s definitely been the key to the way we’ve been playing these last couple of games and I’ve got to take my hat off to him, he’s doing an excellent job.”

...Biedrins, Golden State’s leading rebounder and one of the team’s most consistent scorers, injured his right ankle during a 115-105 loss to Phoenix on Feb. 6. At the time it seemed just another blow to the injury-plagued Warriors, but Turiaf has almost made it a moot point.

Against Portland and 7-foot center Greg Oden, Turiaf had the breakout performance the Warriors have been hoping for ever since they signed him to a four-year contract in the offseason.

“I knew coming into this situation I was the backup center and I knew my position,” Turiaf said. “I’m just trying to hold the fort down for Andris. I envision myself playing alongside him and I know for a fact that he does the same thing. We know we play pretty good off each other. I just told him to hurry up.”

...

Orlando and Charlotte played tonight, pitting two French players against each other. Orlando's Mickael Pietrus finished the game with 7 points and 2 blocks in 17 minutes. Diaw finished with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists in 38 minutes. Not surprisingly, Orlando won the game.

Guys, where Ian Mahinmi now? In NBDL perhaps? Two years ago i even couldn,t imagine that his career in NBA could be so failed... Unfortunately his fate in NBA seems quite similar with our youngster Jaroslav Karolev...

Mahinmi was injured during a training camp with the Spurs during the pre-season. He probably won't make a come back this season. (in theory, he should be back around the time the playoffs will start, but Popovich won't field a rookie with only a few minutes of playing time at best in the playoffs)

He was good last year with the Austin Toros (17.2 points and 8.2 rebounds) and Popovich intended to give him a chance this season.

...He probably won't make a come back this season.
I'm sure you're right; however, it's safe to assume that San Antonio will try to run him again in the pre-season.

Batum finished with 14 points (5-6), a steal, and a block in 27 minutes last night. Portland lost to Houston (the team that drafted Batum), which had a good, balanced game, but nevertheless, Batum got some action as a starter.

Big Boris had 27 points  (10-12), 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal in 41 minutes as Charlotte lost to Phoenix.

though he most likely won't be there this season, Mahinmi will be back next and Pop will definetly give him a shot

Boris Diaw had 30 points, 7 rebounds in a big win over Toronto. Charlotte still has a chance to make the play-offs. Adding Diaw has helped the team, but they're still a long ways off...

Batum had a descent performance last night.

Batum vs. Jazz: 17 points, 7-10 FG, 3-5 3PT, 5 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 1 Steal

Diaw had a double double in the win over the Lakers, with 11 points and 12 assists.

In l'équipe, it was reported Joachim Noah isn't anymore a Garnett fan since he played against him. He said he can't be fan of such a person.

At least one person who saw Garnett sucks. Poor him, how will he do when he won't be able to insult adversaries or teammates?
