When discussing whether James Harden and Russell Westbrook will be able to coexist in Houston NBA historian are citing the Knicks of the early 1970s with Walt Frazier and Earl Monroe as a successful example. Although before my time since I was born during this period I do know that Earl Monroe made an enormously sacrifice in his game to make it work. I don’t know if either one of these two are capable of it. The other factor was that under legendary Knick coach Red Holtzman who preached ball movement and hitting the open man all 5 players on the court were legit scoring threats so it was an easier transition for Monroe. D’Antoni is a fine offensive coach but with Hardens iso style I don’t know how this can work.
