Joakim Noah: "Give me that French passport!"
Eurobasket 2009, France, NBA, latest news
Joakim Noah: "Give me that French passport!"

Joakim Noah, the energetic rookie of the Chicago Bulls will most likely join the French National Team for the Eurobasket 2009 qualifying games in September. This is reported by the French newspaper L’Equipe today.

The paper reports in its online edition that Joakim has tried to accelerate the process of getting a French passport. Noah had to decid between different National Teams (his mother is Swedish, his father is French, his grand-father is from Cameroon and Joakim is born and raised in New York) and everything looks like he has taken a decision right now.

According to Yannick, his father, Joakim will meet with the officials of the French federation in the beginning of May to discuss his future with the French National Team. As the Chicago Bulls are already eliminated of the Play-Off race, Noah will be in holidays shortly and ready to join the team of the new coach Michel Gomez during the summer to prepare the qualification round in September.

For “Les Bleus” who will play without their other NBA players (Parker, Diaw, Pietrus) for different reasons, the energy of the young Bull will be heavily needed in the paint. And he brings back the glamour bonus to a Eva-Longoria-hubby-less team. So the Belgian, Ukrainian and Turkish Centers beware if you don’t want to get a nice poster in your bedroom like Emeka got.

 He still don't have french citizenship. How many time did I read in french basketball newspapers, that he had applied for it. So Noah was saying craps during interviews.

No, it's done. He can play for us I think. It's an old article.

Article talks about Michel Gomez...

Yeah I confirm Noah has already the French passport (sorry, new French member just introducing in the forum and starting posting opinion)

With Noah and Parker in our national team I hope we can obtain some better results for the next years as the ones we've been used to.

WOW ! ! ! Tony Parker, Boris Diaw, Rony Turiaf plus Joachim Noah for France. . . great players, i think what France needed is a different approach they have the talent but their new coaching staff is questionable and untested. . .i hope they will qualify for Eurobasket. . .

8 NBA players + 4 top players in Europe ( Not too bad)

The French NT is having a lot of great players. It may be one of the most "athletic" teams all over Europe, because of its very athletic forwards and centers. Despite that, there are two main problems in the team. First of all, there isn't a "real" play maker in this team. Parker cannot be count as a play maker. He can play as a play maker in the NBA, but in Europe, where the game is different, he looks more like a shooting guard. Not even a combo-guard. And he is clearly a scorer, not a play maker. I haven't seen a "real" play maker in this team since the great Antoine Rigaudeau retired. On the other hand, the French don't have any good 3pt shooters. Their players are athletic, fast, good defenders but none of them can shoot very well from the 3pt line. I think, these are the 2 big disadvantages of this team. And the lack of a good coach, off course...

Parker can shoot the 3 at a very high percentage in Europe as the line is shorter, for him its like a long 2 in the NBA and if you follow him he is excellent from that range. In last year qualifications he shoot 45% on 3-p, not bad. How about Boris Diaw....he is a at the least a decent 3-pt shooter which he proved this year as he shoot 42% on 3p. He can spread he floor and hit the a regular basic.
Thats already 2 guys that can kill you if leave them open. And then you have guys like Mickael Pietrus,Batum and De Colo. They can hit the 3 too and I wouldnt dare to leave open too often. The first was even known as a 3-pt specialist.

Ans speaking about Parker not being a real PG....well I wouldnt know why he isnt. He is an excellent ball handler and can create very good for the team.
Maybe he plays bit too selfish but I think that will change when has Diaw,Pietrus and other decent players. Also De Colo can provide quality minutes at the PG position.

Another French in Nba?

Another French in Nba?

Another French in Nba? - Apr 9, 2009 (by Umberto Scogni)

Rumours are getting close that Nando De Colo (202-G-87) will join the other French players in Nba next season; when the nba draft is coming closer. According to some basketball sources in United States; Nando De Colo made a representation agreement with Leon Rose from Creative Artists Agency ; who has some big nba name clients; including Allen Iverson. De Colo is putting some good numbers; although Cholet Basket is not impressive. Team trying to hold the play-off train from the last seed; while De Colo making 13 points; 3.5 rebounds and 3 assists. De Colo is projected in mid-late secound round in mock drafts.

With ten Frenchmen currently in NBA rosters plus the prospect of De Colo being drafted and signed next year, France is one player short of making a team in NBA. . .;)

Highest rankes French guy now is Rodrigue Beaubois. He plays in Cholet too, is a combo guard, but will move to PG. He is more athletic and NBA prone than Nando. But, he lacks experience.

De Colo is mainly a 2. The second PG should be a guy like Pellin, or Janneau.

The French guys are not bad 3 point shooters when widely open, but they are not great shooters like most outside players in Europe. They are not very good at creating those 3s. Only Parker is ok when it comes to create it on a 1 on 1 situation. We will see if Diaw really improved, but at last Eurobasket, I was disappointed.

It seems Pietrus will have difficulties to get the insurance for this summer.

And please, let us without from Diawara! Please!

I think the second PG will be Beaubois. Or there won't be a second PG and Gomis will take the PG position when Parker is subbed out.

Pellin and Jeanneau play too differently from Parker. It's no use taking them when they'll play at most 5 minutes (even in the case Parker would suck, he would still play at least 35 minutes per game) and none of the systems made for Parker will work with them.

Maybe Pellin could try to stop the opposing pg, but can he do it at international level ? While his defense is good in Pro A, I don't remember him having any effect the year he was in the Euroleague.

The team I think Collet will pick :

1 : Parker, Beaubois
2 : Mike Pietrus, De Colo, Gomis
3 : Batum
4 : Diaw, Flo Pietrus
5 : Noah, Turiaf

There are two players left.
The question is which center Collet will choose between the one he groomed Koffi (great in defense, probably the most hyped and the best center overall and can also play #4) and his current player Traore (the biggest threat in offense and it's exactly what we need as all our other inside mens have a defensive profile).

If Collet goes with Traore, then Kirksay will probably be the last man.
If Collet goes with Koffi, he can't pick Kirksay (both Kirksay and Koffi are naturalized) and I don't know who will be the last man. (probably not Traore as it would be too many centers, so maybe Diawara ?)

Parker Turns Attention To Holiday, France

There is nothing about losing that Tony Parker enjoys but one consequence of his early play-off exit with the San Antonio Spurs is that the France point guard and his actress wife Eva Longoria can have a long rest before he joins the national team ahead of the Additional Qualifying Round for EuroBasket 2009.

France will be gunning for the one remaining place still on offer for the Final Round in Poland when they go up against Italy and Finland in August in Group B of the AQR.

If Parker and Co finish top, they will then have to beat the winner of Group A (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium or Portugal) over two legs to advance.

"This loss is beneficial for the French national team," Parker said.

"I will arrive there in mid-July fresh and well rested.

"Before then, I will totally block out basketball and empty my head to think of a lot of other things than basketball."

Also on the plus side for Parker is that despite the Spurs' setback, he enjoyed an outstanding campaign from a statistical standpoint and it came when the team needed it most because injuries kept Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan out of action for a lot of games.

Parker, who turns 27 on May 17, finished his eighth NBA campaign having averaged a career-high 22 points and 6.9 assists per contest during the regular season.

"I think I've reached another level," Parker said on his official website.

"With Manu's injury and Tim Duncan's small ailment I had to raise my level of play.

"I am satisfied with what I did but as usual I do not wish to stop here. I still want to go higher and my goal is to improve each year in order to become the best possible basketball player. I do not give myself any limit."

Taylor Made: Joakim On A Wild Ride

Have you ever being strapped into one of those crazy, lightning-fast roller coasters that shakes every organ in your body and basically turns you inside out?

My favorite ride is on the border of North and South Carolina at a place called Carowinds.

Afterburn is what it's called.

It's an inverted steel coaster with floorless cars suspended below the track.

With your feet dangling, you fly at a very high speed.

For you theme park ride experts, let's get technical.

There are six inversions, including a space drop, a vertical loop, an immelman, a batwing, a flat spin and finally into a spiral.

This is the kind of ride the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls have their fans riding right now.

On Thursday night, a fourth overtime game was played in the NBA Eastern Conference play-off series between the two sides and the Bulls won in triple OT, 128-127.

Three overtimes in the series was already a record. Now there are four!

I am taking a deeper interest in this year's NBA play-offs than usual because of Joakim Noah, a player who could have a seismic impact on France this summer in international competition.

The son of former French Open tennis champion Yannick Noah, Joakim is a second-year pro who won two straight NCAA titles at the University of Florida.

After a largely disappointing rookie campaign both on and off the court, he's got his act together big style.

In the important games, and all of the play-off games are hugely important, the high-energy Noah has been excellent, averaging almost 13 rebounds per game.

The 6ft 11 center is also scoring at a rate of almost 11 points per game.

The play that showed me this guy has well and truly arrived as a player happened in Game 6 on Thursday night against Boston, in the last minute of the third overtime.

Noah reached in, knocked the ball away from Celtics captain Paul Pierce (the MVP of the 2008 NBA Finals), and dribbled three-quarters the length of the floor before dunking with one hand.

He did this with Pierce breathing down his neck and ultimately fouling him.

Noah converted the three-point play and Chicago stayed on top the rest of the way.

The truth of the matter is that the Bulls have their fans excited about the sport again for the first time since the Michael Jordan days.

"This series is a lot of fun for the fans, the people of Chicago, the people of Boston," said Noah, who had 15 points to go with his nine rebounds.

"It's a lot of fun for us, too, playing in environments like this on the big stage.

"It's special to be part of this, and I know that it's a series people will be talking about for a long time."

In addition to the length and strength of Noah, there's the attitude. At EuroBasket 2007 in Spain, France, in my opinion, missed a little toughness.

The New York-born Noah, who I'm told has his French passport and will be soon named in a France squad, has that in abundance.

As expected, Mike Pietrus won't be there because he either needs to be operated or to rest.
In his last interview, Joakim Noah seemed to have lost his enthusiasm. (he just said it wasn't sure he would part of the team and he would talk about it this week while he used to be very enthusiastic, at least in his interviews).

De Colo Confirms Commitment To France

The list of players that have signed "la Charte d'engagement" (Charter of Commitment) to play for France's national team continues to grow with the EuroChallenge's outstanding Nando de Colo the latest to put his signature on the document.

De Colo, who represented Les Bleus last summer in qualifying games for EuroBasket 2009, had 24 points for Cholet in the final of the EuroChallenge nine days ago when his side suffered a narrow defeat to Virtus BolognaFiere.

Tony Parker, Joseph Gomis and Florent Pietrus are others who have signed the charter.

Among the leading players France would like to add is Joakim Noah, the son of former French Open tennis winner Yannick Noah.

Joakim Noah just completed his second campaign with the Chicago Bulls and was terrific in the first-round series against Boston when he averaged 13.1 rebounds against the defending champions.

Despite his excellence, the Celtics won the series 4-3 to end Noah's season.

"I feel like I know what I have to do to get better as a player," Noah said.

"Obviously, I have to get stronger. Kendrick Perkins (Boston) was really strong out there. He was pushing me around too much. I feel like I have a lot of strength to gain in the offseason, especially in my lower body. Get better offensively. Maybe get some right hooks and left hooks. Work on that. I feel I have a way to go with that."

Noah has not confirmed that he will play for France this season, even though he is expected to be named in the preliminary squad for the EuroBasket.

His priority is to keep the momentum going in his burgeoning NBA career.

"It's going to take a lot of hard work this off-season because I feel we have an opportunity to do something good with this unit if the Bulls decide to keep it intact," he said.

"I feel like I learned a lot from this play-off experience. Even during the tough times. It makes me who I am, the good times and bad times.

"The thing that's hard now is the season's over.

"That's always tough. I think we have a chance to do something special ... We had so many great moments the last two weeks."

France will compete in the Additional Qualifying Round For EuroBasket 2009.
