All right, nobody's interested by this one, but, we are going to play for qualifications for next Eurobasket.

Here's a first list of players not coming:
Fred Weiss
Cyril Julian
Vincent Masingue
Mickael Pietrus
Boris Diaw
Tony Parker
Nicolas Batum

Not likely to come:
Mickael Gelabale
Ronny Turiaf
many others

Now, who will come?
Some speak about Moiso's return, and I would love it. Flo Pietrus? I don't know. At the point? I don't think Janneau or Sangare would refuse invitation, nor a guy like Marco Pellin. I would love to see also Nando de Colo play at that level. Why not Steed Tchicamboud, who had a great year with Cholet too.

Still, the matter is what Masingue said: He is bored to play qualifications and then not to be even considered for the Euro roster. So, If the NBAers want to play at Euro, I think they should come there. Especially the guys not playing much in NBA like Gelabale, Petro, etc...
Now, when Mike Pietrus says new coach Michel Gomez doesn't show him much respect because he saw him when Golden State played at San Antonio well, bye bye mister 20% shooting.
Now, France already complains about last summer lack of results, if those guys love a little Basketball, I think they shall come. for the youngsters, it may a mean to show how good they are to Euro clubs. So, really, I hope the young guys will come to play, and after, show we don't need stars. I hope they will be granted if they qualify with a place for Euro.

With all this players not coming it will be hard to qualify for France. Diaw, Parker and some others deserv a rest. They played all the last years. And with the system of having every year a EC, WC or OG it is normal that in some years some players want to rest a summer.

But i don´t know why a young player like Batum will not play?

France has some nice talents, but for me it looks like everything is only focused on NBA and nobody care much about the NT.

And i also think that Pietrus could play. He didn´t played last year and the GSW didn´t reach the playoffs this year. He couldn´t be tired. He can easily have 2 month to rest and that sould be enough.

With Weis gone, you think they'll be parading down the Arc de Triumphe and hoisting flags from every level of the Eiffel Tower! At least attmepted dunks by under six foot guards will fall way down! LOL
But seriously,
France has the most untapped talent of any Euro country. So I would say it be a good thing to have new players take the spot. I heard nothing but good things about propect center A Ajnca. and J Gomis has the quickness to take Parker's place at pg. and how about Tariq Kirksey and D Diwara?

It was often painfull to watch the French NT play in that slow pope style of theirs(during the last couple of years). If the new coach will change it to a run and gun game, believe me, the rest of the stars will come back!

This is funny. No offence. I feel sorry for french basketball fans. Main players show disrespect to all country, they don't care... They care just how to party and smoke ganja. Ofcourse they need to rest after tough season, especialy Gelabale who won 3rd place in a Sitting On Bench World Cup.

The matter with guys like Mike and Gelabale is they weren't called before last Euro. They felt offensed by that? if I can understand for Pietrus who did pretty poor at WC2006, Gelabale always was a good fit in NT. Also, lately, the playbook was designed for Boris Diaw, and not around Tony Parker, which is an error as Boris will never be a leader in his mind. Still, we have enought talent to qualify I think, and I hope to see the youngs. Batum is not 100% off, but, very likely to do to summer leagues instead in order to get his place in the NBA.
Maybe we could try Noah, and see if he really wants to come.
Ajinca is very high rated, especially by the NBA scouts. He is very very tall, with even much much longer arms. So, in the center, he could make damages defensively. After, let's see what will go on.
One thing, let's come back to our usual style, no shooters, all great 1on1 defenders and very athletic guys!

Boris Diaw changed his mind after D'Antoni's departure and early elimination. He may come, according to a Basketnews article I read today.

Will Mahimi play? While he only played D-League it's a big athletic guy that should be able to cause some trouble for opponents despsite his limited experience.

If Noah joins the French NT it the future the front court of Mahimi/Noah/Ajinca would cause a lot of headaches for opponents if the players develop to their potential.

France always had athletic frontcourt, we'll see how the new rules will influence the game, but right now they need a fundamental/passing/pivot guy in the mold of Vujčić more than one more athletic PF or undersized center since it's hard to base your inside game on putbacks and occasional shot, without efficient back to the basket game with the guards carrying most of the load on the offense.

Guys like Petro, Ajinca, Noah, Mahinmi aren't providing that... Turiaf is on a good way to contribute some of that to the NT, imho, but otherwise eventhough the last european championship wasn't succesfull for France I think Bergeraud with excluding some of the athletic guys did make sense and should pan out once in the future.
athleticism doesn't work in international basketball and nevermind the new set of the rules might lean it a bit towards it, it'll imo remain still far from being decisive.

I agree with Hotjam. France always seems to have great players. They've got players in all of the top leagues, from the NBA to Spain, Italy, and the EL. It's a shame that their national team can't capitalize and win some big competitions.

I know that you guys think Parker, Diaw, Gelabale, Pietrus, and the others deserve a rest, but they (especially Pietrus, Gelabale, Batum) could really boost their profiles if they play and have a good tournament, as Buducnost PG said. There are no good reasons for those young guys not to play unless there are better veterans who will play.

A Mahimi/Noah (I don't know anything about Ajinca beyond draft profiles) could be great, yes. They're both skilled players and if their bodies get bigger, they can compete with the big guys in Europe.

Well, a guy like Hervé Touré, playing in Italy for Milan I think this year has never been in the plans of the NT, whil he seems to be doing all right. Our players in the top leagues usually bring what the others don't bring, aka big one on one defense, that sort of things. Like Moiso or Flo. But, in slow pace game, we have nobody inside. Our best back to the basket player might be Diaw. As tall guys now, 7footers, we just have a few:
Petro, Olivier Gouez (Limoges, Pro B), Romain Duport(Le Havre, Pro A). But none of them has the level to play at the top level right now. The one that may develop in something nice is Duport as he is stille young, and seems to be efficient, and plays in an usually small team, so he can bring something to his team.
add also Ajinca, which is a living physical monster. But, all he is looking for is NBA. And he needs to get heavier still.
Either, as good players back to the basket, we have undersized Julian, Masingue, that type of small tough centers. They allowed France to qualify for Euro ultimately, and are usually efficient, but we lack the tower in the middle to impress adversaries.
Turiaf is a good pick, but, will the lakers let him come? I hope he will come yet. He usually comes.

Well, already with Diaw and Turiaf, we would have material to get to Euro, if we surround them with young players in France.

An interesting player would be Adrien Moerman, star of Naterre(Pro B), best French player in the division, who is I think under 20 years old. He chose to go there after leaving Roanne after the title, in order to play. Don't know his real level, but may be an interesting option in the future.

player profiles:
Alexis Ajinca

Romain Duport

Adrien Moerman

Another very athletic pick: Sidiki Sidibe... But...

For Mahinmi, well, he was a top center in France with le Havre, before going last season to a very troubled Pau Orthez, wher he got injured and hardly play, because he was imposed by the direction to coach Gordon Herbert, who didn't want him in the team. This is the main reason why he left to the US this season, because he lost one year more than he did while managed by San Antonio. So, he already played High level, but not in the right context.

I was one of the first fan of Bergeaud's trial to change France's style, but, it failed, and everybody want him away now. Many players took badly some of his decisions, such as Julian after 2006, and Gelabale and Mike Pietrus after 2007. Now, what shall we do?
We have no such center as you described, and we have no great shooters right now.

Fact is that most of our best athletic players are also our best players in defense. Changing for players who have/had experience in Euroleague (which was what bergeaud had in mind basically) or in best european leagues could have been an interesting move providing the new peeps would have been decent in defense, basically the main asset of french NT.

Instead we had poor defenders and erratic shooters (giffa, ferchaud (who was chosen over morandais ^^, no comment) mostly).

As for lacking a good center, you could had and a good play maker. I disagree with you about noah though, as he was pretty decent on defense and showed good passing skill during his ncaa career. What he is lacking badly is strenght & weight + a back to basket play as he would be bound to play as center in a french nt (while he's much more of a pf).

No matter what, i just hope we will go back to a defensive playstyle as it's really what brought the best results in the past. Our players are too naive and rely too much on their physical gifts and any offense playstyle woudl result in a painful punishment imo.

hello.I want buy the jersey of parker with france team.where I can buy it?and other jerseys of french teams?thanks

Two links but you will have to ask in your order to get his name print on the back as there is no option displayed per player.

French federation propose the jersey. you can contact them at that e-mail if you want to know if they sell parker jerseys specifically.

basketstore sells the replica with the name of the player you chose.

NB :
size = taille (not sure if it's the same standard for you in spain, though S is the shorter and xxl the larger size)
texte perso = expression you can add on your jersey

ps : if you only want a parker jersey, you can also find the one from the Spurs at basketstore.

Well, back to the subject!

Diaw is officially back!

He gave an interview to AFP, in which he spoke about how the players in Euro 2007 were responsible for the position of the NT, and he feels he has to give back what they lost in this competition.
He spoke about the Suns changing their mind, and that his insurance shall be easier to solve than last year's, as he never missed a game last season.

Anyway, I think sometimes he doesn't help the team with all his weaknesses, but he has a good mind.

First list of 28 players possibly in this summer's NT.

Lot's of young guys from Pro A, let's see how the team will turn.

First, Gomis, who was supposed to be first PG in order to have the same style of play as if Parker was in, will be out for 2 months due to injury, and Janneau may be too tired to come. Each time he's played in NT, he's been injured for a while then. So, pgs may be between Pellin, Sangaré (shall start), Bokolo (Oh No) and Tchicamboud. Interesting to see Laurent Cazalon, former member of the Slam Nation, and masterpiece for Roanne out of the bench. he is around 30 years old.

people also talk about someone to take Gomis' place, I'd like to see Mokongo, who was in Turkey and then Gravelines I think last year. He's always done pretty well, in Italy and then Turkey.

Tony Parker has agreed to be on the list. He didn't say he would go, but, there is little progression here. cool!

I'm sorry, but without Diaw,Parker and Batum I can't see France moving to the group stage in the Olympics.

Errr ...
We won't even take part to the Olympics. This team will try to qualify for the next Eurobasket. (almost) everybody would come if it was for the Olympics.

Anyway, Diaw is in and Tony's situation got better. But still few chances to have him.

Aegis: +1
