Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

KG really had potential. He was a slam dunk king for years then he was a scoring role player for several years. He even became an import in Taiwan. Yup we wouldve been looking at a different KG now. My guess is he wouldve been able to develop offensively earlier and his defense would have been better.

Come to think of it KG would've been better internationally. His lanky body was not made for the PBA. He would've been able to maximize his gifts in Europe.

KG, Papa Rey, Intal had the same problems despite their height , shooting and verticals. Lack of handles, BBIQ and aggressiveness. Kobe might be the same type of player. Thank God Rhenz seems to be a lot more aggressive nad has a higher BBIQ

KG's story happens frequently, especially to guys from the provinces or from humble beginnings. Teams/schools always use the "loyalty" or "utang na loob" card on them to condition them into not seeking their true worth. Would not be surprised if people around him at that time discouraged him. Just like during that interview where some guys were telling Bates to take the offer instead of doing something to possibly get more. Take the "safe" route they say instead of betting on himself.

Helterbrand is the only one who understands the concept of "you gotta do you." Not forgetting one's beginnings is a valuable trait. But when it comes to taking care of you and your family, no one else will care more than you.

They were born in the wrong era.

Fortunately, now there are so many players like them. The generation of kids who learned how to do plyometrics and proper athleticism training are now coming of age...Bayla, Gemao, Cholo, etc. Dunking is not that uncommon anymore. Most guys of top school teams can dunk now, the "physical" style of defense is the only thing preventing them from doing it in game (one has to be extra careful).

And the good thing is, they were also taught other skills like dribbling.

Now the next step is teaching those work-out techniques to young (pre-teen) 6'6+ kids.

he was playing against guards like 6'1" alvano, korean guards (PG/SG) are usually 6'3" and below. i really like his development in korea, he even played some PG last season

I think he is officially listed as 6’1.5 without shoes. With shoes I guess around 6’3? He looks to be a decent sized guard though. His game seems to be improving. Unfortunately, he is not a highlights kind of guy. The only way I see him being called up is if PBA guys are not available.

Official height is 188cm without shoes, I think. Yep, you're right, 6'1.5".

Oh. That's 6'2. So 6'3 with shoes. Its good he's playing guard in KBL. I think SG will be his international level position. SG seems to be his role in the team.

Are you based in the UK?

If so, can you describe the hoop scene there especially for young fil-brits. Maybe also europe if you have an idea. It's interesting how few prospects we find in the continent.

Not as many as in US and Canada…. Well here in UK, there is the Edu brothers and two youngsters in national youth team system in Wales’ side one is surname is Navarro and other I forgot… Quality wise the level is well below the US of course. And there another one who is currently training with Real Madrid basketball academy…

Thanks for the response. Yes, it's understandable that there would be fewer than the US and Canada. But it seems that New Zealand and Aus also identifies more prospects compared to Europe as a whole. Most likely it's because of groups like DAdmirals who are very active in Oceania. Perhaps if there would be more active coaches/scouts in Europe we will discover more.

Hoping we'll find more great prospects from there.

If PBA referees, PBA rules and Physicality= Team PBA
if FIBA rules: Team international.
