That's what I don't understand too about Carl's perceived image to the public. He's been around the PHL basketball scene for quite a while now and has had consistently above average (for a Pinoy baller) results in all of his basketball-related forays since 2019. For Kai and Kobe P., aside from having NBA-level physical attributes and skills potential, I think it's their names/pedigree that are at play.

Hindi kasi nagda dunk si Carl Tamayo unlike Kai Sotto & Kobe Psras that is why he isn't popular among Pinoy basketball fans. U know naman a lot of Pinoy basketball fans, they have this streetball mentality na kapag palagi nakaka dakdak ang isang player, magaling na.

Yeah, casuals be like. Tbh though, it's a real shame what's continuously happening to Kobe P.'s career trajectory. A good-sized, adequately-skilled international 3, just wasting away his gift.

Style over substance.

We'll see soon enough how it will unfold for Gemao.

Yeah I could see that for Kyt's case. But I don't think most pinoys can relate to Kobe P and Kai, but attention and hype for them was crazy. The eventual bash followed the hype though so I guess it's a good thing for Carl.

Yeah, it's good that Carl wasn't exactly a famous name, because he would be bashed once fans know that he didn't exactly have a great start to his pro career. Averages of 2.7 points on 25% shooting, 0.7 rebounds in 8 minutes per game. Good games were few and far between.

Well, let's see if he can sustain his good first week this season. Hope he follows it up with a good performance. It's good that he's getting 30-minute games this week. Shows some trust on the end of his coach.

Yes. Carl's game is "boring" compared to those 2. Kai is usually fed wide open dunks and Kobe used to want a high light ever play. Used to ha because he doesn't even care enough anymore to make highlight plays

The thing I like most about Carl is his continuous improvement (this points to a great work ethic). He was relatively late into basketball. In high school, he was overshadowed by KQ, then took a leap in college.

Now that he's a pro, I expect him to make strides in his 2nd year and then take another leap in his 3rd year. The guy is ultra-competitive and looks like he welcomes challenges.

Tamayo's game seems boring I think because since he's a bit late into basketball, whoever taught him was probably a proper coach. He got taught fundamentals, as opposed to learning in the streets/barangays like most kids. Good footwork, no wasted movements but yeah boring for those who want flashy moves.

RDO type of player. Walang flare sa laro. Simple lang galawan nothing too fancy.

I really think Tamayo has tons of potential and he can develop into a Luis Scola type of player for the national team. Tamayo and Scola have similar traits wherein both arent that tall and athletic but they can score from the post or the perimeter.

Tamayo is ultra-competitive (ayaw magpatalo). He's got that dog in him. All his coaches recognize it sooner or later, his Bleague coach probably saw it.

Not so much the obsession of a casual fan with a player's stats as having game-ready players regardless of their role.

For context, a PBA superstar would play at least 33 games a year doing 30-38 minutes a game (12-minute quarters) depending on the conference... definitely way more games if their teams make the finals each conference. A Pinoy B-League starter (both Ravenas, Ramos, Wright, and hopefully Edu) can play maybe 54 games a year give or take playing 26-ish minutes a game (10-minute quarters)... the Emperor's Cup competitions and preseason add just a few games more. Bonus nalang for Abando, Tamayo, and the more-useful ones at Meralco and TNT with EASL games.

Everyone else accepts being a role player even if it means shock-trooper like Tamayo before that breakout game. At least Parks, Sotto, Abando, even Bolick and Juan GDL should probably have bigger roles on their teams... but it beats being the third guy off the bench on a big PBA team.

Not the topic here but KG Canaleta was offered a Euro contract at 8x the rookie salary in the PBA and chose the PBA back in 06-07. Massive what if?

The conversation they had illustrates the differences in mentality. JJ who grew up in the US is all for keeping your options open and not meddling in how other guys handle their business. He had to explain to Rico before his friend realized that there could indeed be plenty of other valid reasons why a player goes out of the grain.

Then KG...when he got that euro offer, he admitted he was from the province who wasn't really thinking that those overseas stuff is realistic. He put a "ceiling" on himself on what he can achieve.

Pinoys are conditioned to accept things and always be grateful for what we are given. We got to go beyond that mindset and seek to know one's worth. It's exactly why we have very capable people who remain employees instead of becoming business owners.

Sayang kg was so laid back even in ue that he will play if you play him 10 , 5 or 40 minutes...and in euro he wouldnt even need to slash the hoop (whic is the knack on kg's game)

KG really had potential. He was a slam dunk king for years then he was a scoring role player for several years. He even became an import in Taiwan. Yup we wouldve been looking at a different KG now. My guess is he wouldve been able to develop offensively earlier and his defense would have been better.

Come to think of it KG would've been better internationally. His lanky body was not made for the PBA. He would've been able to maximize his gifts in Europe.

KG would've developed his guard/wing skills better if he played with FSA's during his college days. He was already in the PBA when he was playing 4/3 positions which is late in development. IMO
