Brad, Kai having 3 weeks of training with Gilas is still significantly better than Kai having 7 days of training with Gilas. Of course that 3-week training with Gilas won't put Kai in the same level of familiarity with coach Tab's system as the current & former Ateneo guys at Gilas like Dwight Ramos, Will Navarro, Matt Nieto, Isaac Go, or Kouame. But having a longer training with Gilas would make Kai better assimilated with coach Tab's system as well as bond better with his Gilas teammates.
Even if don't expect Kai to be the focal point of our offense, still better assimilation of Gilas system is crucial.
There are a lot of aspects in the game aside from scoring or offense. Things like defense & rebounding require familiarity, teamwork & coordination which are not developed overnight.
As I've said in my previous posts, its a long process as far as Kai's assimilation with Gilas system & given Kai's situation in which he is training in the US & would be playing pro basketball in Australia, coach Tab, the SBP & Kai's handlers must be innovative & creative on how to arrange things to syncronize Kai's stint with Gilas while still be able to honor his other commitments, in particular his stint with the Adelaide 36ers in Australia' NBL. Of course, its not easy.
Lets face it, Kai can't train with Gilas in the same way as fellow Gilas teammates Justine Baltazar, Javi GDL, Isaac Go, Will Navarro do becoz Kai has overseas commitment.
I'm thinking of Kai able to train with Gilas for about 2 weeks in each window of the 2023 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers. Then during the NBL off season, Kai can train with Gilas for about 2 months full time. With this set-up, I think prior to the 2023 FIBA World Cup tournamet proper, Kai would already be well assimilated with coach Tab's system & would already have established enough chemistry with his other Gilas teammates.
