Preserving could be to avoid injuries. I think the schedule is too tight and congested. I would be alarm if he wont play on either OQT and Asia cup.

I am one of the most ardent gilas supporters here. My interest lessen after the Gilas brawl that I watched live.lol It didnt help that we dont send our main players always. I see Kai as phil's best hope and a uniting factor if he makes it big.

I trust EWP and Ervin with their decisions with Kai. Kai has conquered heights way more than any Phil bball player. His journey is a marathon and not a sprint. Im just here to offer my unwavering support. I also get frustrated but my support doesnt change.

Hmm... preserving to avoid injuries... I guess if you really think EWP needs to babysit Kai Sotto at the cost of losing experience playing competitively against Ratcliffe, Prosper, NT Centers of Serbia and Dominican Republic. I myself don't think Kai is that injury prone for him to be excused on the tournaments, but hey that's your opinion. Cant really change that. It's great to know.

Just when everyone is so excited seing Kai play his 1st official FIBA game in the senior level & perhaps enter the Phi basketball record book as among the youngest player to have ever played in a Phi senior team, here comes the news of the uncertainty of Kai's stint in the 3rd window & the OQT.

Hayyyssss. This news spoiled my day to be honest :(:(

Toinks pumunta din si kai last feb. He has just more things to consider these days. Kasi his family in the us, both he and erwin would be stuck here till august, tight schedule and also his rumored to go australia prior to going to phil.

toinks? was there even a game? why keep dragging family thing? gradeschooler ba si kai na iiyak pag mawalay ng ilang buwan sa pamilya?

Just wait until he or SBP makes an official statement.

No need to listen to rumours.

Well, my point is, even if Kai would be able to play in the 3rd window, he will have only a few days left to train with Gilas becoz he would spend some precious days at a quarantine facility. Now, imagine had Kai left the US for the Phi some 12 days ago, eh di sana tapos na yung quarantine procedure nya & he's already cleared to join Gilas training, giving him at least 3 weeks training with Gilas.

yes, i said in my post that he might come home after his birthday but it did not happen but went to miami for some more training. why ewp can't cancel that training is beyond me but instead blames iatf quarantine. and as if tab have not made it known during the resumption of the bubble that he only waits for kai and dwight. dwight is done with quarantine just as pool took a break.

Like many in this forum, I believe that the Gilas campaign in three tournaments spanning from June to August is a perfect venue to showcase Kai to the world and to his team in NBL.

This is good for Kai for three reasons:

1) He is going to play a real competitive basketball for the first time within a year not just a pick up or tune-up game. Expect no non-sense defense against him.

2) He can gauge his level by playing the following:

- Ra Guna
- Lester Prosper
- Chanatip Jakrawan
- Curtis Washington
- Jonathan Galloway
- Takeuchi twins
- Ryan Rossiter
- Hamed Haddadi and the Iranian bigs
- Al-Dwairi and the Jordanian bigs
- Ater Majok and the Lebanese bigs
- Chinese bigs
- Australian bigs
- Rob Loe
- Serbian bigs
- Dominican bigs

3) He will play a substantial amount of games needed to prepare his mind and body in the NBL.

- 3 games in ACQ
- Min of 2 games in OQT
- Max of 6 games in FIBA-Asia Cup

That's 11 games of real competitive basketball. I believe Adelaide will want to see Kai play in Gilas so that they will have a preview of what he might actually offer to their team.

Assuming he suddenly arrives in the Philippines tomorrow and undergoes 10 day quarantine. Kai will only have around 2 weeks of practice time for Gilas until the Qualifiers. Not a good sign.

very well agree. he really needs to play competitive game as he has not had an official game in over a year. and it also bodes well for his nbl team if he will have solid games

It's not like we're expecting him to be the focal point on offense. Kai did not join the pool from its foundation in 2020. Whether or not he has 3 weeks of practice is irrelevant, the point is that he is new to Tab's system and will need more time to fully acclimate himself. Guys like Dwight, Ange, and Matt have been there from the start so they will be the main cogs.

I think people here are expecting too much from a kid who hasn't played competitive ball for more than a year.

That's the point of including him in the team's campaign over the summer.

He is not there to be the go-to scorer. He is there for a part-time boot camp in preparation for the NBL.

And they're now saying the IATF's guidelines might be the deal breaker as they don't want to spend so many days doing nothing. That's kinda weak.

I'm hoping for some good news but I'm getting negative vibes from this.

That is just one of the logical reason if Kai wont really play till August. Playing in the NBL is by no means babysitting. It is one of the most physical league. I dont expect Kai to miss all gilas games. I'll just wait for the official statements from his camp.

Kai's family has been a major factor in all his decisions eversince. Have you diligently followed his EU deals prior to going to the US? It was heavily discussed here and it was always that Kai want his family with him. His parents would also want that they are always with Kai all this time as he trek his NBA journey.

I do wonders though if Kai has already been vaccinated while he was in the States. If he’s already fully vaccinated (meaning 2 weeks past his 2nd injection) maybe the IATF can waive the quarantine requirement for him and take away one of EWP’s objections.

At a point where the kid was getting offers from D1 colleges, the family already made a decision money over education and he's the breadwinner of the family. At this point his management is making all the financial decisons since they already invested for him and his whole family financially.

Short answer: He or his family wants him to be babied.

I dont think their babysitting Kai. It is just that it is a collective effort of the whole family. Some families and kids would want to stick together. I for one would prefer that my kids would be near me always even when they go to college or when they will have their families. I want to guide my kids till they are mature enough to make really sound decisions. Teenagers are susceptible to stupid decisions specially if they would be around bad peers.

Kai's case is extra complicated because both his parents stop everything just to help Kai pursue his dreams. Their decisions would also always consider the sustainability of the family as a whole and not just Kai's career. I think all of them will transfer to australia again during Kai's NBL season.

Because that is the best decision for Kai's family. Japeth Aguilar's family took the same steps but instead of making JA as the breadwinner his parents worked while in the states. Kai is a way marketable and legit prospect than JA. Kai is born to play bball and he could get his education afterwards. Most NBA athletes graduate late.

I'm inclined to believe this is the main reason.

Australia's immigration system is a lot friendlier than the US which is based on a lottery system and family ties.
