Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

20 year old Zhou Qi (2016) - 43rd pick overall in the NBA Draft

20 year old Kai Sotto (2022) - Undrafted in the NBA Draft.

It's always fun to watch when bigs go head to head than a bunch of dwarf players like Trae Young pulls up from the half court haha

I missed the old days where bigs are the most important player in the court.

Honestly Kai played well against Zho Qi and at that age he had shown great potentialand upside

than Zhou Qi who I think is already in his prime.

Hopefully CJ will give Kai meaningful minutes every 36ers' games.

IMO Qi could have at least a Haddadi type of career in the NBA. He was able to block a lot of shots in some of the summer league games. But I have the feeling he was not interested in pursuing that type of career, so he moved back to CBA.

Zhou qi nba market is billions of dollars sa atin.. millions from illegal streans and divisoria made merchandise

Really? Qi drafted.haha Kai Sotto at 19 and his management team didnt accept draft and stash offers.haha stated by Bell and House of bounce. It was not refuted by EWP only Kai was not aware of it. If kai didnt really have real NBA interest, why would Wasserman accept and promote Kai. Andrew Gaze confirmed in the NZ and ADL game that there are NBA teams checking on Kai's progress. Really? 3RD BEST pioneering ignite player Zhou Qi looking too slow against 20yr old Kai Sotto. Really negatrons? No interest for Kai only the premier KBL/Bleague agent is handling Kai these days.haha

Age really doesnt matter?haha

Peak RDO and pingris is way way better than 19yr old Giannis "the Freak".

20yr old Kai Sotto makes 26yr old Qi old and too slow.haha

Ang dami niyu may issue sa mga youtubers.haha you should collate all your discussions in your group chats and create youtube channels to praise Caffaro and the likes. In that way, you reap the revenues with your brilliant takes and to lessen your annoyance/envy on the youtubers who features kai.haha

Nobody would mistake Ping and RDO as NBA players even at their prime.

19 year old Giannis is already a lottery pick and identified already cornerstone of the Bucks averaging almost 25 minutes a game. Sure he isn't posting MVP stats yet but everyone could see his potential.

and even as a raw 19 yr old he averaged almost 7 pts in his rookie season and was named to the all rookie 2nd team, meanwhile no sane scout/gm/teamowner would claim that peak rdo and peak ping are nba quality players.

heck nba discards like powell and quincy miller can easily dominate the pba, that alone would give us a glimpse of how competitive it is in the nba, let alone to average 7 pts despite being a raw prospect

zhou qi, hadadi and yi are cut above the rest of their asian competitors, same.with watanabe and hachimura

The contention was that age shouldn't be a factor. Even if you replay countless times the 19yr old Giannis against peak RDO and ping, Giannis will always have a hard time. He will not dominate and manhandle Ping and RDO. Young Giannis pts in the NBA were on fastbreaks and 3pts because he plays as pg to SF.

If you keep insisting that a 19yr old Kid, will dominate older players even if they arent NBA players but World NT level would be too absurd.

Potential will always be potential unless it is nurtured for it to grow and would need adequate playing time for that player to reach his peak and potential. Giannis took several years for him to reach his MVP form and not all 19yr olds would reach their potential. It is so stupid to insist that teens will dominate grown men. That is always a rarity and not the norm.

20yr old Kai cancelling peak Zhou is commendable. Also, if Kai at 19 would have a hard time against Qi is expected unless your too limited with your takes. Players should be gauge against players their age and their position. Kai has higher upside that Zhou Qi.

Anyone know SJ's efficiency rating in his current team? For context, though his numbers look good, just curious as to the extent of his contribution overall (ex. team performance whenever he's on/off the court)

i don't have the numbers but eye test looks like he's shooting at a higher efficiency than rj. but in rj's defense sj's a spot-up shooter for his team while rj is the main playmaker

It's literally a direct quote from Peezones.

I don't know how that can be considered flaming/trolling.

What is with the CCP style censorship on here?

Its obvious flaming. Thats why you put it on your signature. You are not tricking anyone here.

Nah, no pinoy baiting going on at all.

I'm sure he is just really impressed at an NBL player who averages 4 points a game LOL.

Because bench players can never have superfans? LOL.

Diehard Chinese fan of Aaron Brooks

In the thread there's also a link to a Joe Johnson superfan who still believed even when he got his lowest minutes and points avg.

Next you'll say "But he's an NBA player".

He might be pinoy baiting but to imply that Kai can never have non-Filipino fans because he scores 4 pts a game is stupid.

Filipino Kai haters exist in this forum alone, it's not impossible for foreign Kai fans to exist. Yes I'm finally calling some people haters. There's never any constructive criticism from these people, and I'm certain making Kai's jersey a footrug is hater behavior.

This vloggers?/die-hard fans couldn?t even buy his Kaiju merchandise and even his NBL/Ignite jerseys.
And it seems the handler EWP?s IG account is not active of posting updates of Kai.
They Prolly post updates when he?ll play for Gilas.

The value of someone Kai, just like the BLeague boys and 1GDL, is in the eyes/buzz pinoy basketball fans provide. If the goal is to convert those fans to paying fans, then that is unlikely to say the least.

The next 3-5 years will be crucial for Philippine basketball, if the demand for Filipino pro ballers in Asian leagues will continue on its pace then that can open doors to the NBL and the European leagues. I look at these players still as "Trailblazers" and their success will in turn define the success of future Filipino pro ballers internationally. Maybe in less than 10 years time there'll finally be a full blooded Filipino in the NBA.

B. League and KBL will be the safe destinations because pay is good and competition is relatively better for Asian standards.

NBL and CBA are the premier options for the region.

EuroLeage - A rank

NBA - S rank

i just noticed that the philippines and some south american countries are not properly recognized as former spanish colonies for some reason in EU basketball. a lot of EU leagues allow players from former EU colonies to play as locals in the leagues.

https://www.eurobasket.com/job/cotonou.htm

mostly african countries in the list but there are also caribbean & pacific territories/countries like guam, macau, tonga etc. i have no idea what the USA Colleges (USC) means in that list

also liga ACB considers players who played 3(?) years as teenagers for their teams as homegrown players and are treated as locals. had kai agreed on that real madrid deal he could've played there as a local in the liga ACB by now

Sotto with 2 points (1/4 FGs), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks in 15 minutes

Adelaide with a blowout win against Illawarra. Starting center Daniel Johnson with 28 points (4/6 3-FGs), 7 rebounds and 4 assists in 29 minutes.
