Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

Will "skill ball" be the more appropriate term?

I would prefer calling it "Small Ball" and "Tall Line Up" to avoid confusion.

Basically you play 5 players smaller than usual average height for that position for small ball and 5 players taller than usual average height for tall line up.

If it is going to succeed will depends on how skilled and versatile they are.

Ahhh as I have predicted.

Mitch to Boomers and Kai to Gilas. I haven't seen Harris to Tall Blacks yet. Maybe he is not really that good of a player to be needed by their

National team. Only CJ looks at Harris as a better player than Kai haha.

Here are the breaks:

10-14 November window:

NBL: 7-16 November
KBL: 7-15 November
B.League: 27 October-19 November
UAAP: 6-19 November

23-27 February window:

NBL: TBA (although no games scheduled yet 6-28 February)
KBL: 20-28 February
B.League: 13 February-7 March

Looking at the breaks of the NBL, KBL, and B.League, I think they're better options for our best players than the PBA at the moment, even if it's just the latter two, just for FIBA availability. Plus, the breaks are in line with FIBA tournaments proper, from June to September.

Our players have to take playing time into consideration, though. Looking at how Balti's faring, and how Carino and Juan did. At least take a rotation spot.

Kai wasted the off season doing stupid drills and playing in YMCA pick up games.

If he really wanted to develop his game he should of taken NBL GOAT Andrew Gaze's advice and spent the off season playing in the NBL1 or NZNBL.

Look at Mojave King for example, he played for the Southland Sharks in the NZLNBL and averaged 18.1 pts, 4.2 rebs and 3.2 ast. He improved his game a lot and got much needed game reps.

Kai's conditioning looks below par again.

If that option was there then he should've taken that opportunity, unless it might have conflicted with Gilas' schedule.

Is there a d league version in the NBL? Maybe the 36er's can delegate Kai there for the much-needed playing time, so he can work on his game and conditioning

one big minor league in NBL1.. that will help..

And few months ago, some posters were quickly to judged the nbl1 as low competition for kai and they will rather choose him to play for gilas. Lol

Yeah.

I think it is the bolded part that makes so much difference between the PBA & B-League, KBL, NBL.

With their current FIFA rankings (from 147th to 81st in 2016, then now at 77th) suggesting moderate success these past few years, I believe football is now a very close second to basketball in Lebanon.

Countries that basketball is their no.1 sport:

China - (Due to Yao Ming and good result in international basketball from 80's to 2000's)
Lebanon - (Thanks to Fadi and upset victory vs France in 2006 WC)
Philippines
Serbia - (Called themselves as basketball country and Belgrade as basketball city)
Lithuania
South Sudan - (Another country might be the basketball will be their no.1 sport after of their national team's performance)
Latvia
Taiwan - (might be baseball but according to some Taiwan websites, it's basketball is their main sport now)
Angola

Countries that basketball is close no.2 popular sport

Spain - After football, basketball is their main sport
Greece - Same as Spain and maybe will be their no.1 sport in next 10 years due to Giannis' popularity all over the world
Jordan
Turkey
Israel
France
Venezuela - (Fighting between Baseball and Basketball for their no.1 king sport)
Puerto Rico - Same as Venezuela
Dominican Rep.
Argentina
Slovenia - (Due to past international success and maybe surpassing football in next few years depending on Luka's popularity)
Nigeria
Mongolia - (Due to 3x3 success)

The truth is no one gets drafted to the NBA nor picked by an NBA team by playing in the NBL1 or NZ1 and whatnot.

It is just a waste of time playing in that league and there is also the danger that Kai might get injured for a useless league.

Quality over quantity. Also, during that six months kai needed to prepare to showcase himself to 14 NBA teams. That experience alone is priceless for

Kai Sotto and getting feedbacks right in front of him from NBA GMs and scout that he worked out for.

After the NBA draft, he worked out for 2 straight months for a football type of exercise and practice to improve his body and laterals.

He made improvement, casual fans would never understand or see Kai's sacrifice and hard work on and off the court.

Mexico and Venezuela could have been better options for Kai after his failed attempt in the NBA draft. If given a chance and if offered, they will not pass a chance to have a 7 footer in their team.

Yoo Jaehak seems happy seeing RJ playing in their league.

If you are him, you will be definitely happy - those two triples by RJ in the last two minutes, damn. Lol

When not scoring, he provides rebounds, assists and steals.

all this baggage from fans/reporters are gonna work against kai when he tries to get signed to a top tier league. reminds me of when jeremy lin was in houston/LA, the coverage & his fans overshadowed his game

Sure there are good pro leagues Kai could of joined.

The problem is he would be in a completely different environment and culture where he doesn't speak the language.

Kai could of just stayed in Adelaide in the off season and worked on his strength and conditioning at the 36ers facilities, while getting much needed reps at NBL1 level.

Lets face it, him getting drafted to the NBA was a complete long shot. All the indicators pointed to him not even being in the bubble to get drafted.

He shouldn't of wasted the off season doing drills and not getting any game reps up.

The consequences for his off season decisions are hurting him now, as he can't crack the Adelaide rotation.

sorry for the OT but it just bothers me too much :(

could've/could have
shouldn't have

i thought this was only an american thing

23 pts, 6/7 3 pt fg 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals for rjay vs seoul sk knights (W)

97-84 win for mobis..

i only watched the highlights but RJ is getting really cocky lol. it's all good as long as he continues to play well.

Angola still has football as their 1 sport because of that Brazilian-Portugese connection eh.

In this case it's a good thing, if the star player is getting cocky then it raises team swagger and confidence. I've read a few impressions of the team during preseason, Ulsan fans were so doubting in their team, saying stuff like their imports didn't match up to other teams. Now they're comparing RJ and Prim to Yang Dong Geun and Ra Gun Ah. Not my words but theirs, I was surprised.

Seems like coach CJ and NBL is transitioning to a more modern basketball, Kai needs to keep up

I don't think so. If you transplanted a player like a 30 year old Udonis Haslem to the current Adelaide, CJ would start him over DJ. Not saying Kai is comparable to a 30 y/o Udonis Haslem, but that CJ wanted Kai to develop faster as a finished product (or at least closer to finished) rather than being able to play modern basketball, which by this point Kai is very acquainted with already.

And few months ago, some posters were quickly to judged the nbl1 as low competition for kai and they will rather choose him to play for gilas. Lol

I don't remember anybody saying this in IBN. Maybe in some other places but not here.
