Based on the highlight it seems he's the main ball handler and the team is taking advantage of his slashing/post game to create plays. If only he has Jlastimosa offensive repertoire, the game will be easy for him.

And come on, the schedule of basically every other league but the NBA is better suited for FIBA competition, especially tournaments proper. Kasi, kung PBA, hindi sure ang scheduling after the WC.

i agree he'll probably not develop as well as he could in japan, but that would be due to playing time as he will be competing for minutes against 3 world imports. in the kbl he will only be competing for minutes with korean bigs

to be fair they're different from troy. troy is more athletic than the 2 but only started playing basketball in high school, was originally a volleyball player iirc. he only got exposed to tab after he graduated. balti will probably never develop ball-handling skills but he can still be a good fiba 3&D wing. carl meanwhile is a true international tweener at the forward position, although he's not as good defensively as the other 2 you can see him improving and putting effort on defense

Watched the game last night. Thirdy had tighter ballhandling and passes, something that I thought he wouldn't work on. Kudos to Thirdy, sobra.

That was Troy's only exposure to Tab. Otherwise, he stagnated after that. He peaked as a FIBA player in the OQT. Went to a team that didn't develop him as well as we'd like.

pretty much sums up the general consensus regarding Kai, its the hype and the blind fanaticism that is being targeted/critiqued, not the kid himself. before Kai was compared to all time greats like Duncan, Yao, Gasol and Hakeem, then he was deemed better than Poku, Chet and now Wemby. Now Marc Gasol is the goal post. there's a reason why the kid is not drafted. Further, his current situation, the NBL, despite being benched is not bad!. He is being exposed to world level competition and hopefully now fully aware of what he needs to do. (those TSF trainings did more harm than good for his growth)

Sometimes its not bad to drink a little dose of reality and temper expectations. Luckily the kid doesnt lurk around IBN or he'll get a inflated ego with all those hyperboles

Heavily disagree, the comparisons towards Kai are very biased and one-sided. "Mitch Mccaron is a better rebounder than Kai" Ows? Sige nga what was his reb avg at 19-20 years old in the NBL? Those kinds of comparisons, disingenuous and baiting, just to prove a point when everyone here knows it already.

I think there are many factors contributing to Baltis very low minutes. 1. Wrong expectations - Balti is listed there at 6'10. At the onset they were expecting a backup center and not a switchable mobile forward. Add that Balti is not a strong post defender 2. Language - Balti thrived in in Gilas because the coach knew his game and knew how to maximize and develop his skills. Also, there were a lot of Pinoy assistant coaches to speak Tagalog to him. 3) Imports - The team has three world imports. 2 PF/Cs and 1 SF/PF. When one got injured they got a C import as Balti cannot defend the post like a C. And then they have the 6'3 JP PF. The guy actually improved in the last game. He did some drive and kicks. And I dont have the stats but I think his 3FG this season is pretty high.

So the point is that it is not enough that Balti might be our best Gilas PF right now. He is not as skilled as Carl. Not as athletic as Malonzo. Not as strong in the post as regular PFs. And he is bad at english. Balti's skillset needs more nuance to be maximized. It is hard to do that when as coach you dont know his game and you cant speak to him.

So let this be a lesson to our other players that playing time is not given abroad even if your a potential PBA 1st pick. It is specially more challenging for bigs as imports play their position. Also, English communication is important.

On hindsight, PT should have been more of a consideration for Balti than being able to bring his family. We dont know how the lack of PT is affecting his skills. But I dont think it helps. A few months of being separated with his family might have been better than his skills and international employability getting worse.

Its rare. But in his 1 minute on the floor last week he was matched up against a 6'8/6'9 beefy Asian guy. He was posted up and he fouled. 6'3 JP guy is strong as most undersized PFs are. An import posted him up last game and JP guy held his own relatively well.

In the UAAP and in the barangay league he last played in he relied on his length to overcome his last of strength. He needs to be called up in Gilas. 1 year of almost zero PT will affect his skills.

Also, Ping is too generous for JP guy. Think Camson body with a bit more length and more discipline in defense.

These last few posts all just reek of it doesn't count cope. Selective research? Obviously reb stats are lower with lower playing time but don't let this stop people from doing disingenous comparisons with the 'white mini rodman' because Kai is a foot taller. Jeff Bezos' wallets forgot about the Marc Gasol comparison before 23 y/o by other posters they were just arguing with a few pages ago. Backreading is key.

What I also got from the wallets is that coaches are pristine and perfect. I wonder what Balti has to say about that one, lol. Or PBA motoclub for that matter.
