uu.. and not having those perks in the NBA academy, which is basically similar to academic scholarship, would be a big step down for the Sottos, who have lived off Kai's celebrity status for the past few years

I really feel sorry for Kai sometimes, the kid never experience to be in a real HS,never experience attending a Homecoming, could have been a HC King,a prom, could have been a prom king.I don't the kid even went on a date,it would have been big news. The control that Mama Sotto on this kid will go beyond the girl, who's brave or crazy enough to go in a relationship with him.

Japanese guard Yudai Baba made it to the Golden State Warriors summer league roster. Other Asians who signed with the NBA summer league are 6’7” guard Guo Haowen (Dallas Mavericks) and 6’9” forward Fanbo Zheng (Indiana Pacers).

Its almost a week since the draft and no word if Kai will get an interest to a summer league stint.

“It hurts because there are also young players who are no longer able to finish their studies because they’re [headed overseas]. These are first-year, second-year students and they’re already being recruited. I’m just worried because, as I’ve told [several young people], basketball is but a stepping stone—that later in life, education is still important. But I heard they’re saying it’s for money? I guess you can’t keep people from going for that,” he added."

Al Chua and his crocodile tears.. Boo hoo.

Chua feels that was also similar to the PBA’s 2015-16 season when the league also opened up import slots specifically for Asians.

“But again … it didn’t click. Do you know why? Sorry to say, but Filipinos are simply better players,” he said. “[The foreigners] weren’t utilized that much, especially considering the language barrier. So it just didn’t click. Filipinos are also being recruited because they can speak English anywhere.

It did not click because the league had a dumb rule of 6'3 height limit. Which make zero sense since we had an abundant of talented guards but less talented wing men and bigs. However, other asian import did standout tho. Michael Madanly, Sam Daglhes, Seiya Ando. Imagine having the likes of tall middle eastern wingmen or bigs on the team, tall korean shooters... but instead they gotta be limited to 6'3.

a basketball league with height restrictions. you don't have to say that out loud to hear how dumb that sounds.

st*p*d Chua, try to lift the height limit in his liliputian league and let's see if he will say the same thing.

try Haddadi, Geramipoor, Sakakini, Al-Dwairi, Khayat, Zhou Qi and let's see if he will the say the same thing.

What did you expect from Alfrancis? Foreign leagues hurt the near monopoly of the PBA. Of course he is hurt. He has to pay his players more hahaha

This is as stupid as it gets. There are literally millions of real world situations of people getting education, and earning their degrees and diplomas while being employed / and are working. And this people work 8 to 5 and on weekends.

Alfrancis is just spitting non-sense here and trying to gain sympathy by preaching the tired and old mantra "stay in school". Well Fukc, he's speaking as if he thinks that the the student athletes in the overly commercialized UAAP and NCAA leagues are really students in the first place.

Not to mention one of our issues is that we have players overstaying in college, so once they try to get better they get rejected by top leagues like what happened to Kiefer.

Hey now. Maybe everyone in Letran are model students. I mean they were "shocked" that "some" students were getting paid including FSAs which was one of the reason they proposed the ban. So I'm guessing Ambohot and co got their diplomas first before they applied for the draft? Abando and co are probably just getting meal allowances and are staying at the dorms not getting paid and just focusing on their studies.

Yudai Baba is a quality player though when Kai was going to the NBL the forum Hoops.com.au weren't very impressed with Baba. But I think he can crack an NBA rotation.

Apparently Kai right now is in the Kaiju Academy with Jack Animam in Ohio. Who knows, maybe they're just waiting for news since Kai isn't zooming back to the Philippines for a Gilas stint.

same here, kid was deprived of a normal childhood like Michael Jackson and Frankie Muniz (Malcom in the Middle). Kai would have experienced a normal childhood/teen years if he attended a NCAA school. But instead, the Sotto family will ride and die with Kai's basketball career.

edit: too bad he cant play college ball due to those star margarine ads

Sometimes I wonder if a "fast track" way to the NBA is his dream or his parents' dream

Maybe coach Tim Cone helped him get a roster spot for the Heat's SL line up.
