Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

I think i found the stipulation on why Kai is automatically eligible for 2022 and not 2021 .

Look at statement below

"Any player who is not an "international player", as defined in the CBA, must be at least one year removed from the graduation of his high school class."

Kai unlike his ignite teammates only graduated from a US high school this year 2021. not 2020. so one year removed is 2022!

i just remembered, snow tweeted months before that kai will need another seasoning before declaring himself at the nba draft. his personality may be off but his sources seems correct.

Kai now has to prepair his body for physicality, and "gulangan". The NBL league is very physical but clean. And if you look at the Australians they are heavily build, so he has to prepair body, mind and spirit.

I was right all along that they been talking to teams and that is expected for agents. Also, it is a good thing that several teams were interested.

A lottery selection next year would be a homerun. A first round would be great and second round would be a bit disappointing. I like how Kai's schedule would progress this year. Fiba regional qualifiers would be a bit lesser than the OQT and NBL. I also dont expect the OQT to be really tough because NBA players would most likely sit it out.

2nd round is fine.

Jokic is a 2nd round draftee and he is d fav to win d MVP this year at age 26.

other notable international stars drafted in d 2nd round are marc gasol and manu ginobili.

Nakalusot talaga by having graduated this 2021

Bottomline:

Kai Sotto and AJ Edu will be both eligible next year's nba draft.

Good luck to both of them

anyway i think this is excellent for Kai's development ... the only think i would advise , it's let's be patient with Kai, the NBL is not an easy league to play in.. 2020 draft pick RJ hampton as an example, played limited minutes and struggled to compete vs older players...

didnt know he graduated only this year. i admit ewp have their own tricks haha. if he was in the mock drafts this year, they will go to the thon maker route. applying for eligibility. good move/planning for them.

I agree. it is very physical, fast and very disciplined system in NBA. And not just the Australians and Australians that are very good, even the American imports are also very good.

I really believe Kai's talents and overall value merits a lottery selection. If both Chet and mobley, could be seen as top tier lottery players then Kai should be near that rankings. I really dont see them as way better than Kai.

yes. his management team saw that he was not ready and that he will just be exposed in the gleague as a benchwarmer with raw skills.

some individuals criticized sbp for "taking" kai from ignite, but it is likely that it was his handlers decision to accept d long standing invite from sbp to justify the non-participation in the gleague bubble.

ESPN and most reputable nba draft scouting sites disagree, placing kai outside of d top 60.

a year or two for now maybe. a lot of big men drafted in d first round (including international players) were bust. as long as he makes it in d nba and develops to a rotational player, he will already wreck havoc in asia. if he becomes a solid starter and maybe all-star, like yao, then great.

this from the CBA ... so it's not just age (19 yrs old) but 1 year after graduation pala
The "one year out of high school" requirement is in addition to the age requirement. For example, although O. J. Mayo turned 19 in November 2006, six months before his high school graduation, he was not eligible until the 2008 draft, a year after his high school class graduated.

Agree!! Expectation vs reality..

yes its "AND". they planned it all along. if he was high in the mock drafts, they will just prove to the NBA that he graduated last year (all of us or almost all of us thought he graduated right?) like thon maker. savvy move to avoid backlash
