Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

Poku is more perimeter oriented. Kai and Chet plays more inside.

The bigger difference is Chet plays better defense being one of the block leaders in the US NCAA. Chet is also a better rebounder. As what scouts have been saying ”don’t confuse skinny with soft”.

Same guy who players like Duren have been pushing around? It's confusing that Kai is seen as this soft prospect as if NCAA big men are better and dirtier than NBL big men. Chet has better defensive stats because he hasn't been pushed at the pro level. I don't think Chet will bust, but people who are so high on him will have a rude awakening if they expect Chet to be played at the C in the NBA.

found this circulating around social media, Kai playing ligang labas, does the NBL/36ers have any provision in their contracts that will allow Kai to play in such tournaments?

anyway, god these vloggers are leeching off the Kai hype

personally, Kai should avoid pick up games and ligang labas, one wrong move and he could get injured and that would further jeopardize his nba draft chances

I think this is not a tournament but an exhibition game you can see that even in the video that its not competetive.

thanks for the correction. weird, the NBA will be livid if one of its players would suit up for a unsanctioned game (i.e. exhibition), especially those without clearance from the league. NBL/36ers probably not that strict with regards to outside activities of their players.

I remember, some NBA teams would even put in their contracts that their players are not allowed to ride bikes/motorcycles, this is in response to the Chicago Bulls-Jay Williams accident 20 yrs ago.

I dont think most here watch Chet's games but based their observations on highlights. Chet is really like Poku with a better defense but possibly because of lesser competition.

You may watch the US U19 games against Mali and against France. Chet statpad against weak comp but plays mostly SF on stronger teams. Lofton Jr was their PF with team USA. Chet was really a very weak defender inside. That would be further highlighted against grown men. What separates Chet from others is his guard skills but Poku's perimeter skills is way more advance and polish.

I dont know the depth of this coming draft but Chet doesnt deserve that 1-5 position. Those ranks were reserve for almost instant contributors. I dont see Chet contributing meaningfully for 3yrs. His development will also be dependent on his problematic body and it is a possibility that he would further slow as he grows bigger. Chet has already been drinking protein shakes since highschool to prepare for college ball but we cant see any visible progress.

Chet is too soft. Just watch him play against bigger teams. He is afraid of contact from stronger players around his age. He cringes during contact.

Here is an update regarding Kai. He mentions about team workouts meaning multiple workouts.

Kai Sotto's Statements:

"pagdating sa America, Magpepredraft training ako sa Atlanta" (I will do my Pre Draft Training in Atlanta, USA)

"Sa patapos ng buwan, Aattend na ako ng nga team workouts" (I will attend some team workouts last week or days of this month)

Hmmm. Interesting. I hope he is also included in Combine.

Looks like he is very Focus on Nba Right Now over Gilas.

Gilas can wait, the last time he tried to prioritize Gilas, his stint with ignite got screwed. SBP should think long term, kai participating in the combine and training in the US for the draft would be beneficial not only for Kai's own development but for Gilas as well

Improved attitude? Looks like he'll still have a job in Japan for at least a couple more years.

he's bigger and more athletic than most non-world import small forwards playing in Japan right now.

I can see the 59th pick as some sort of a safety net for Kai. Portland picking Kai if he’s still available makes a lot of sense, actually. They got the oft injured Nurkic as their center, and have only two other bigs—a low ceiling Eubanks and a project in Greg Brown. Needless to say, they need another big to shore up that frontline.

Portland have started blowing up the team when they traded McCollum. It’s rebuilding time for them. This bodes well for high upside players like Kai as he can develop with the team without haste or pressure. If I were the Trailblazers and I’m left with Cockburn (who projects to be a less skilled Andre Drummond) and Kai, I’m definitely going with Kai.

And oh, someone from the Trailblazers camp has just discovered Pinoy baiting. I hope this attempt to tap into the Pinoy market spills over and culminates into them drafting Kai.

Genuine question: why is it that people call it Pinoy baiting? I see numerous videos by foreigners catering towards Thais, Indos, and Indians too but Thaibaiting, Indonbaiting, and Indian baiting doesn't exist (as colloquial terms). In fact our very own countrymen making videos with clickbait captions and misleading thumbnails are more Pinoy baiting than most anything I see from foreign content creators.

are there only 58th picks this draft ? not having 2 picks is really important for those rated around 81 to 100, it is the difference between being drafted or not, historically a big % (half) of who were drafted as sleepers (81 to 100) were picked at 59 and 60. this matters

Good point but I’m guessing pinoys are the most engaged either in commenting, liking and subscribing.

i think so, heat and bucks forfeit their picks this yr due to tampering

Maybe due to the affordability of smart devices and prepaid internet/ wifi. Plus lots and lots of freetime on their hands. I genuinely dont have any idea why some trashy vloggers and personalities are famous/ have lots of subscribers.

Thats the reason why he's an import after all. That being said, he's better off hiring a conditioning coach and a skill coach like Drew Hanlen. To further his talent and be more agile on the court. Kobe definitely has the edge in terms of length and size.

It’s the demography of internet users and our reputation of being gullible. We are easily top 20 worldwide and are actively engaged in various socmed platforms. And when it comes to basketball, you only need to look into Kai’s Ignite and NBL stint to see how rabid Filipino fans can be.

We are so active in soc med and I guess a bit easily drawn to anything that stokes Pinoy pride, valid or not. Also being conditioned that foreigners, especially whites, are superior, many of us are tickled pink anytime they say something good about other Pinoys, valid or not. I guess in this case our English ability is working against us.

But if you go on the premise that Luka Dončić and Chris Paul (and maybe Jalen Brunson and Devin Booker) can come close to canceling each other out in most meetings, it might come down to Suns’ center Deandre Ayton.

This is a different breed of center than what the Mavericks saw in the first round against Utah’s Rudy Gobert and Hassan Whiteside, both of whom are modest offensive threats.

Ayton is a legitimate star-level center. Maybe not as gifted defensively as Gobert. But vastly more dangerous on the offensive end.

“We have to adapt,” coach Jason Kidd said Sunday before the team left for Phoenix. “Our game plan against Utah is not going to work against the Suns. We’ve already changed that mindset.

“They can hurt you with the three in transition and they can hurt you in the paint with JaVale (McGee) and Ayton. This isn’t Gobert and Whiteside. These guys can put the ball in the basket.”

There is always a need for an offensively gifted big and Kai is not bad on defense. Gobert is rumored to be moving. Jazz could draft Kai if he would still be available late first round.

Only those who aren't watching games religiously would contend that those bigs in the mocks were better than Kai. Duren is too limited and raw. Hukporti is way better than Duren.

3. But what about the Bucks’ D?
For a good portion of the year, the Bucks were passive on defense and at times lousy, especially for a defending champ that prioritized defense. Other than Jrue Holiday and Giannis, everyone coasted. Evidently, though, the switch flipped after the All-Star break, and this had much to do with the return of Brook Lopez from a back injury that surfaced on Opening Night and sidelined him until April.

Lopez was once again solid on defense Sunday, especially when Giannis was forced to the bench with foul trouble. Lopez had three blocks and his length and rim protection made the Celtics think twice whenever they drove the lane. In the first round against Chicago, the Bucks held the Bulls under 90 points twice in five games, and now, the Celtics once in one game.

Why Brook Lopez's defensive impact elevates the Bucks' chances at repeating.

It’s a stark turnaround that doesn’t get much spotlight, but Milwaukee’s about-face is one of the big factors in the NBA this postseason. The Celtics discovered this firsthand when they managed just 33% shooting and spent much of the game playing catch-up. “In a way, it’s good to get this dud out of the way, offensively,” said Celtics coach Ime Udoka.

Importance of rim protection and Kai is near or a better athlete than Brook.haha Real Scouts would be sleeping if they only watch NCAA games and cant recognize the difference between pro-tested bigs over unproven NCAA bigs.haha
