Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

Ignite was always high risk/high reward and if that was explained to Kai then the decision makes sense. High reward since its the NBA and they want Ignite to succeed. High risk since its new and the NBA doesnt have the record of a Calipari/Coach K of developing players.

But the competition is bad and Thirdy is getting worse there.

Well, we can say that because Thirdy is in an awful team. It's just that B.League were just able to unmask the weakpoints in Thirdy's game.

Simple he is already entered (not just eligible),
It's touch move (he signed a contract with a US based pro team). Tapos
No withdrawal.

The only possibility of withdrawal is an exception, (like hasn't played a game, but that's doubtful he will get an exception from the NBA

i can see 3 things here
1. is gleague outside of the NBA? if you think about it, g league is under the jurisdiction of the NBA.
2. does scrimmage considered as played?
3. are we sure he can't withdraw his name if he is indeed included in the list?

https://mobile.twitter.com/DraftExpress/status/1255327898417991680

as mentioned before this is a new case. we can't know for sure he is in the 2021 draft.

'The List' refers to early entrants, those who declare early. Not players who are automatically entries or eligible. For the latter there is really no list. That includes everyone who is made available for the draft automatically based on their status, e.g. For US based players (CBA definition) those who signed a contract with a US based team.

Don't confuse the list of those who declare and enter early with those who are automatically entered like Kai

Kobe Paras was not on the list in 2018 as an early entry, but was available to be drafted, just like every 22 year old in draft year in the Philippines

Are we all overselling Kai?

YAO MING at 18yo-19yo was playing and averaging about 20ppg / 12rpg in the CBA

While with consistent NBA Mock Drafts, Kai’s competition is putting up actual game numbers and results:

Usman Garuba, 19yo (6’8 / 230lbs / Real Madrid)
Garuba is playing enough in the euro league right now, his current LIGA ACB averages: 3ppg/3rpg/1bpg on a 13minutes per game showing.

Alperen Sengun, 18yo (6’9 / 220lbs / Besiktas – Turkey Superlaegue)
Sengun is an 18year old dominating his own country league, 19ppg/10rpg
Turkish Superstars can’t wait to send him to the NBA for their own sake I guess…

Hoping EastWest Private is doing its job for Kai – that they already gotten an (under the table) NBA TEAM Commitment for KAI
(hello Houston? say Spurs?)

The issue really was that NBA teams didnt allow their players. It is the same as PBA governors wont allow players to play for Gilas.

Would you blame EWP if providing insurance isnt feasible? The cost for that one is astronomical. Drew leagues dont pay insurance but the guest players were just few. How can you get clearance from the teams if superstar yung player? Just remember it was really too difficult to get clearance for Clarkson to play for gilas.

They were banking that it was for 2 games and prior event was a success. EWP and Smart had all the right to organized such event unfortunately NBA teams didnt allow it yun lang yun.

There was no intention of fraud or to circumvent anything. Paying insurance doesnt make sense business wise.

Pero branding EWP as fraud or a bad organization is really too much. It is like your school org organized Parokya ni Edgar to play in and event but here comes parokya's manager halting the event. For sure EWP did try to get clearance for players maybe for some pero for sure no na yan kaagad same with PBA gov saying no for gilas loaning.

OT but :

This is a small summary of what happened. The last event prior to this was awesome. This one was not and the players and organizers got humiliated. I dunno if it's true though that EAST WEST already knew but still went ahead with the event.

Technically, he is pro.

Sp of course, he cannot play against this amateurs.

The only league Kai can play is G league, Euroleague, NBL, B league, CBA, and PBA(PLEASE NOT HERE)

Still plenty of leagues to choose from. Let's hope they really think this through though

But the competition is bad and Thirdy is getting worse there.

i wouldn't necessarily say thirdy got worse because of the bleague. a lot of factors have contributed to his lackluster performance:

1) delayed arrival due to lockdowns
2) got covid, missed games
3) fractured his hand

more than the bleague, unforeseen circumstances and terrible luck has contributed to his stock dipping.

If only we can reverse time,it would have been better if pick a top 10 US NCAA college instead. The kid is missing out,big time on being a guy of his age, going to state school, big man on the campus, sororities, fraternity parties, and just plain having fun playing the game, instead of looking at it as a job and on his shoulders a whole country pressuring him to be the first full blooded Pinoy in the NBA.If he went to college even for just 2 years he will have the benefit playing with a patient coach, who showcase his talents, learning to answer media questions and the university will show the media and fans that he's a very marketable player.:(

The roadblock was really the insurance. It is also not easy to organize an ateneo vs lasalle among active pba players. It would take the approval of the governors and team owners. That was on a different level. They tried to push through because they have already spent millions trying to organize that event. The players were already here all those times. The NBA teams were the hindrance but it was their right to protect their investment.

I am expecting an official statement from Kai and EWP this week. I will wait for it. Supposedly his quarantining would be up this week.

are you sure there is no list? did you check the link?

lamelo ball made the "also eligible" list

If Kai isn't drafted this year, I would prefer that he goes to Europe. The quality of play is almost or even better than the NBA (especially when it comes to system play and in terms of fundamentals).

The problem right now with Kai's team boils down to communication. If you look at the history, kai's journey is a road of extremes. EWP started with bombastic hype, (helped by bandwagon youtubers). We were bombarded with numerous posts hyping our boy. Now all of a sudden, no word from them. Like a rollercoaster, after the highs of the numerous news and posts, now we have nothing.

And we are all left frustrated and confused.

What I am worried about is that if Kai's situation worsens is that it might create a bad impression for Filipino basketball players in the eyes of the NBA and could lead to a "blacklist" for our prospects especially if the NBA sees that EWP is involved. Unfortunately, there isn't another entity that could help our locals cross into the US basketball circuit. A rich Filipino-American should start his own "EWP."

As long as no bridges are burned then Im ok with this I guess. Hope Kai thinks long and hard about his next move.

What's next for Kai? Nobody knows.

SBP is currently getting the brunt of the fans in the social media.

Sigh. What a let down. Another Japeth, Rayray, Kiefer and Kobe. It was so close. Well we can say unlike those before him, it's his handlers that screwed up.

It will be another boring IBN until the next promising prospect appears.
