Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

The question is if that identified next homegrown prospect’s parents are willing to let their son to be away from them at a mere age of 14 or 15 years old, even Kai was accompanied by his family(Kai was close with his mom)..

Yeah that's one problem. Fanbo Zeng moved to the US at 14 for example and is now China's top youth prospect. While Lebron Lopez came back home. The official excuse was an Atenean education but homesickness or poor performance are personally more likely for me especially since all the classes are online anyway.

What I think is certain is if the Philippines could develop players as well as the US for example, then multiple PBA stars couldve made the NBA. Sadly our developmental system is bad if the standard is to develop NBA talent.

Imagine Jawo and Fernandez suiting up for Division 1 programs

https://www.spin.ph/basketball/el-presidente-approves-kai-sotto-s-us-endeavor-a2437-20210413?ref=home_featured_1

Fernandez said he wished he got the same chance when he was still an up-and-coming talent out of University of San Carlos.

"When I was 18, I would've wanted to go to the States and train, pero hindi nga nasunod," he said.

At age 19, Fernandez eventually linked up with San Miguel Braves in the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA), before transferring a year later to Komatsu Komets (later renamed Toyota Comets) and was a founding player for the team when the PBA opened shop in 1975.

The bottom line of this problem is that in this country there is no such thing as grassroot development as far as "How to play basketball properly to make sure my skill sets may somehow compete me on the next level", sadly we don't have that here as of the moment, streetball basketball is still the first step on all kids out there especially on the country side who had no access on any basketball clinics, realistically speaking, yung sariling diskarte/sariling sikap is(still) the very first foundation on any aspiring basketball players and when he plays High School basketball chances are he/she may not be able to develop the proper skills set because we have to admit that majority of the coaches on that level still uses that old dilapidated type of basketball philosophy and only a few HS coaches nowadays are gradually using the modern approach but it's still not enough unfortunately. So come college level we've always watching 6'5 and above players lumbering down the court, slow footed with a shaky ball handling skills that cannot save his/her life on the offensive end and lastly majority of our players doesn't have the proper balance and stroke to have a consistent outside shot. SBP being the recognized basketball body must add certain modules on their on-going clinics certain aspect related to skills coaching on a grade school level because at this stage kids are still in a formative years hence teaching them regularly and consistently to develop basic fundamentals on ball handling/ball control and proper balance on shooting the ball on the hoops will surely establish his/her foundation on game much better if they put premium on other sports as part of the cross training thing like football, swimming, athletics and volleyball(as much I would like to add american football type of a training it ain't possible on a local settings because of the obvious reason). I think with those stuff I could guarantee that we will produce quality players that could compete internationally skills wise. Now the million dollar question is this, are the people from the SBP has the motivation and inspiration to implement such thing? are their certain individuals or groups of person out there who had the heart to teach kids on a nationwide scales the proper fundamentals of the game away from the so called streeball approach and are the kids out there had the motivation and inspiration to do some cross training aside from the usual on the court training? I think it's a long way to go because we Filipinos(on a local level) had a different philosophy and culture(old school) on how to play the game.

Sir analyzed, this is the same point you are saying with regards to Kai's eligibility right?

About Gabriel Deck

"Savvy move by @okcthunder - no risk only upside. @wojespn Any chance you can explain to us @NBA nerds who are curious why Deck doesn't have to go through the traditional draft process? Did they already have rights? Thx"

"He was automatically eligible for the draft in 2017. As nobody had chosen him he became a free agent in NBA terms."

But still, I hope Kai will announce that he will join draft.

There are no rules naman that is preventing you to announce it if you are automatically eligible/entered. Right?

Yes essentially, Deck must have turned 22 yrs old in 2017, I'm assuming he is not a US college player, so is an international player classification, he is automatically entered /eligible similar to Kouame last year when he turned 22 years old. It's confirmed below, undtafted in 2017. Yes No one even knew he was entered as he is unknown.. automatically eligible

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriel_Deck
For argument sake if Kouame is signed by an NBA team, he does not need to go thru the draft as he is already a FA, having been automatically eligible last year (year of 22nd birthday)
Kai based on CBA as a US prospect classification on the basis of signing with a US based pro team , is automatically entered/eligible this year.

There is no withdrawal process for automatically eligible players, early declared draftees however can withdraw.. normally underclassmen who don't sign with an agent

The advantage for Kai to have forwarded his draft eligible year to 2021, as an automatic eligible player entered. Is teams right after the draft can sign him as a FA

So sir. You still think there is no chance for Kai to be drafted thin July 31.

But there are teams that will bet on him as undrafted Free Agent.

Ayoko na mag bigay ng opinion..
It's pointless, anyway not much longer to find out.

The writing is in the wall anyway..
Here is the thing if these mock drafts are so way off , it goes both ways really.. for everyone who is omitted (not mentioned) it means the ones who are regularly mentioned like Green, Cunningham etc are then regular false inaccuracies. You cannot say only a 1 pick or a few are inaccurate and nit pick when the player is consistently not mentioned , then say nothing about those who are always constantly mentioned.
It's either the mock drafts are inaccurate regularly a lot or they are not

it also helped that chinese athletes like Zeng were already isolated from their parents at a very young age and are housed in dormitories/school for athletes

whereas, culturally it will be difficult for homegrown Filipinos to be separated from their parents at a very young age. This reminds me of the Filipino olympic figure skater (Michael Martinez) and the sea games medalist gymnast (Carlos Yulo) who both left the country for training during their early teens,

to add the eala siblings.. alex eala is making waves as she keeps climbing up the rankings.. her brother is doing well in US NCAA

On a side note, for the sake of their development, I hope the Eala siblings continue to stay far away from the Philippines. Not only does the local tennis federation suck, but winnings are not very high in local tournaments, and the only sponsors that will probably support them are some politician that will probably treat them as sabong pieces.

I like the sport, and I hope the Philippines eventually gets a strong tennis player to represent the country, but that wont happen in the current local tennis environment. Only privately-funded organization (see: football and basketball) will give these players the opportunities and training they deserve.

It's definitely looking like Kai's going to hold off on getting drafted first. I'm not opposed to it, it's fine. But if he decides to get drafted this year and risk being a FA, that's also fine.

Yup, he is there. Most likely will go against prosper and ex nba players.

Based on CBA and I know I've mentioned this a number of times, he actually can't withdraw from being automatically entered/eligible.
Of course focusing on trying to make the NBA in the succeeding years like 2022 onwards instead of this year is a a separate matter.

https://www.spin.ph/basketball/fiba...his-own-vs-ange-kouame-a2437-20210413-fbfirst

One thing definite is the Kai now vs Kouame is a different Kai from the one training vs AJ for the 2019 World cup.
2 years at that age is a whole lot different.
We cannot continue to use any of Kai's exposure in Batang Gilas as basis for anything moving forward.

So it should be Kai Sotto holds his own vs Ange Kouame and not Kai Sotto dominates Angelo Kouame in February bubble training.. :o

interesting words from Teddy Archer (Intl agent), Euro still option for kai but he lost his leverage and aura of mystic

“I think in Europe the options that he have, it won’t be the same anymore. There could be something else in Europe but it’s not going to be the same,” said Archer, the former player turned NBA and FIBA agent who does a lot of dealings with European ballclubs.

“He won’t be able to make as much money, they won’t bet on him that much because now they have seen him come hard time in the US. So now they think, ‘Ok he needs us a little bit more than we need him.’”
