Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

2 years in the US doing nothing but play basketball including 3-4 months with GLeague talent and yet you still endorse the "development" story? LOL

Kai played actual basketball competitions with GLeague talent?

Castro develops his shooting and playmaking skills in PBA. He is definitely a special player and has been an import with Singapore Slingers but still raw and mostly use his quickness to beat defenders. He became multi-faceted in PBA.

Josh Reyes..

where in my post did I say it was basketball competition? what I was saying that he was in a training camp with Ignite playing everyday against and with GLeague talent

ilulusot mo pa iyang development argument eh iyung Ignite nga ang development team hindi ang NBL

while there are still 20++ games to be played its very obvious now that Adelaide didn't sign Kai to be a rotation player and seems to currently bunched in with Malou, Gattona and Marshall as the "third team" within the 36ers lineup

given that scenario and when looking at the big picture Kai's chances of getting drafted next year will entail not only sheer luck but a team that will view him as a "draft and stash" investment worthy of a late 1st round or 2nd round pick ala Nikola Jokic, offhand while this is possible I do feel its highly improbable to happen

I really believe - at the rate Kai's career is going - that his road to the NBA is thru free agency just like Landale, Pacu, Boban etc. he has 2 more years with Adelaide with next year as a likely make or break year for him but he really has to make an impact. remember it took Landale a finals MVP performance to get a NBA contract and in the case of "draft and stash" Jokic an MVP season in the Adriatic league - whats the common denominator there - it seems the peg for Kai is to win an individual award in the NBL to build interest from NBA teams.

so realistically, for the next 20++ games all Kai has to do is to show CJ that he is coachable - don't try to do things to impress scouts but rather just execute the role CJ asks him to do, this way he will gain CJ's trust and will pave the way for rotation minutes in 2023. ang hirap kasi ang daming Pinoy ang expectation is stariray agad si Kai during year 1 such that they miss the real opportunity presented to Kai.

Im rooting for Kai to make the NBA and I believe he has a chance but I also believe that next year's draft is already out of reach for him

Only a matter of time before the next Pinoy scrub gets their contract torn up from their Japanese team. My money is on Kobe getting terminated next.

if this happen, my God he has fallen very far, from a 4 star recruit to getting cut, damn, red shirting and returning to the Philippines to play for UP screwed his development

No, it's on Kobe. He is not adjusting on anything. Dwight, Rayray, Kiefer and Thirdy know their respective roles in their teams. Kobe apparently not so. Even Rayray and Kiefer, who both are PBA stars, know that they are just mere role players for Nagoya and Shiga, respectively. Kobe should bear that in mind. He should think like a role player and fill up what is lacking on his team.

true, he is also accountable, damn he wasted all that talent, plus his reluctance to learn/adjust, at this point he should have realized that the world (any team he plays for) does not revolve around him and he needs to adjust his playing style.

I hope Kobe's reading all these comments, man. Sarili nya lang talaga ang kalaban nya, and it's quite sad to see him lose his battles.

If Humphries doesn't come back next season, for sure they will get an import big in the mold of John Mooney type.

Kai's projection is this year a lot of DNP or spot minutes, next year 5-15 mins.

I still think Kai and his team will request to be released from the Adelaide contract and he will sign in a low quality Asian league, where his level of play will be more suitable to get adequate playing time.

Kai will have a long career in the Asian Basketball leagues, his body, skill level, work ethic is not up to scratch for European, Australian or American Professional Leagues.

you mean the PBA?

He should be in Japan instead where the game is softer and not as physical as Australia.

If he can't make it past Australia, what more the NBA.

Back in the late 2010's some of the posters here compared Japeth Aguilar to Chris Bosh. I think Kai is better than Japeth at 20. Let's see if he gets some major playing time in his 3rd game.

Kai without a question a better player than Japeth at 20. But Japeth didn't have any private training in the state or support from private entities here in the Philippines unlike Kai. He had to grind on its own.

Yudai Baba started out his professional career with Alvark Tokyo at Japan BLG (2017-19)

Then, he played for the Texas Legends in the G-League (2019-20).

After that, he signed for Melbourne United in NBL (2020-21).

Now, he is back at Texas Legends.

Looking at the path of Yudai Baba, he played his first two years as a pro in an Asian league. After gaining pro experience, he tried his luck to be a pro in the US and Australia.

If I were Kai, since he started his pro career in 2020, he should have tried first in the B.League. After two years, try his luck in the G-League. After G-League, try NBL. Ladder steps should have been the approach of Kai and his team.

Kai and his camp tried to emulate the Lamelo Ball and Josh Giddey route towards the NBA.

The problem is that it is very obvious that Kai is not an NBA talent and would always struggle to play against seasoned veterans in a legit pro league. He and his camp should of realised this fact after his failure at Gleague Ignite.

It is very clear now why no team in the NBL offered to sign Kai to be part of the NBL Next Star Program. A pathway created specifically for actual potential NBA Draft prospects, something that sadly Kai is not.

I believe that for Asian players that are aspiring to play in the NBA someday, he has to play first in Asian leagues (T1, BLG, KBL or PBA) to assess first their overall game. If a player is not good enough to play at this level, are we going to believe that he atleast G-League-material?

Kaya nga from the get go, I know that Japeth will not be able to crack a spot in Sta. Cruz Warriors because he was just average in his TNT stint and was lagging behind RDO, Kelly Williams, Harvey Carey and Ali Peek in terms of playing time.

Parks was a rotation guy at Texas Legends playing about 13 MPG. I can say he is atleast G-League-level. Look, how he fared in his ABL, PBA, and BLG. He is really that good.

Had Kai, at age 18, tried B.League first, he could have assessed himself whether or not he is ready to move up to the next level (G-League).

Yeah, i saw JGDL story. I hope Kobe finishes his first year. Hes gifted and explosive. He just went to a weak team. But yeah, there are flaws in Kobes game.

I think we all saw JGDL had issues with his attirude before and he looked like he was arguing with his coach one time. He's a fighter and doewsnt want to lose but maybe his pride got the best of him. humnbleness is needed all the time. Do what the coach asks and if you fail, don't point yoiur fingers to anyone. Accept your weaknesses and move on. Things arent goinna be smooth sailing in this world. Im not saying this is really what happened.. Just my general thoughts.

In their last game, it looked like he was adjusting to the teams system. Thats why he got back to the strating line-up. You can see he has the size and length to be really competitive, hes just lacking in a lot of areas and his team is weak unfortunaely. Imagine if he went to a really strong team and the coach knows his strong ands weak points. He for sure would be used wisely by the coaches due to the fact that he is 6 6, with size and eplsive nes. He can shoot threes and drive.

I hope that being cut will somehow keep JGDL grounded, same applies for all our heavily hyped young prospects, always be humble

It sucks to be cut and terminated, granted if thats really what happened. But this will hit JGDL really hard. And I hope this serves a HUGE lesson to him.

To be honest it was already a great opportunity when he got signed by Ignite. Guard oriented or not it was an opportunity to learn on and adjust. It was his handlers who mucked it up. Then they spent the next months doing exactly what? Training and playing pickup ball with randos which amounted next to nothing and broke his shot and building Kaiju academy. Heck he could have joined the GILAS practices a lot earlier and maybe posted better stat lines last window. Remember when everyone here is wondering where he was and when is he going to come home ( even computing his quarantine days etc).
