i suggest so it's not too difficult and lose objectivity . to not view Kai as our own , but as a 3rd party . Imagine if Jakrawan from Thailand was the SRP of 36ers and was getting benched.. as long as the player is developing , it should be OK. the professional team environment isn't a equal opportunity situation. you may be as good or have more potential than the players playing ahead of you. but sorry.. it does not work that way , where you are entitled to minutes.

people should not underestimate the red flags from Ignite , how he looks for Gilas and if you had experience coaching his glaring weaknesses. I actually was surprise as CJ was when Kai played decently in his 1st preseason game and regular season game.. Kai just needs time to further develop .. let him be... please no NBA draft prospect talk for now. super super premature and exaggerated..

this will make or break him. hope it will motivate him and not discourage him. anyway, him and his team knows he need to earn the PT. he is still young and still has many more years to go. if he rides the bench for Adelaide this season maybe next season he will have more time.

expectations aside , in context Kai is really in a good situation. he has a 2 to 3 year NBL contract to develop him and he's just 19yrs old.. safe to say he's easily getting 6 figures annually. so essentially he has the most lucrative and high level program any teenage filipino player has ever . not bad at all..

there really is no problem.. it's just that the fans have caused all this fuss and situation where he's a bad situation or something , he is NOT.

Aron Baynes played in the NBL and in overseas leagues before he landed a contract in NBA at age 27. Joe Ingles played in the NBL and Europe before Utah Jazz signed him at age 27. Matthew Dellavedova was undrafted in 2013 draft but was invited by Cleveland in their Summer League team.

That is the best question to ask them. He did not even receive even a single second. Nakaka awa naman si Kai." He looks very prepared and full battle gear. And what is insulting there coach even said that Kai is now healthy and ready to contribute, but it is all PR crap.

He should have chosen the NCAA path or Euroleague or even Bleague. If he will be bench and not respected like this, he will never develop. Coach Tab is maybe correct that he can give a better training for Kai in Ateneo.

respect, much like playing time,is earned, not given. at this point we should all realize that the 36ers has no obligation to play Kai for him to be showcased to scouts or to be drafted. The team's primary purpose is to win. And if it is best for the team to bench Kai over veterans/more established players then so be it, its the management and coaching staff's call as they see the players, including Kai in a daily basis and dont base their decision on mere youtube video highlights

further, Kai is no generational talent at the international level for an entire team to build their roster around and run plays through. Yes he has potential, but at this point he is raw and needs all the time to develop. Probably regardless of what league he plays in, the outcome will be the same, be it NCAA, Euroleague or even the CBA and B League, the kid needs to pay his dues.

Anyway its not the end of the road for him, i just hope that the benching will be taken as a challenge. Personally I would rather see him be given playing time and be embarrassed on court so he would realize all the red flags he needs to work on and keep him grounded as well. Again he may be the Phil's wunderkind, but in the international level he's just any other 19 year old who need time to develop.

Which player is most similar as Kai (style of play , size and skil set) that eventually made the NBA in his mid 20's undrafted ? can you think of someone , i just wanted to see if their is a realistic projection path that is suitable for Kai, that an honest question

true, objectively Kai is in a great position, he has a guaranteed 2 to 3 years contract (with 6 figures $$$) to improve and possibly be NBA ready at a steady pace. It's the Hype Train of most pinoys that's creating all the unnecessary pressure on him. Let him improve at his own steady pace and enjoy the game

Yup it's not the end of the world for Kai. Not everyone can do Giddey or Lamelo. There are many paths to the NBA. But being drafted in the first round this year with the likes of Chet and Banchero is probably out of the question..

same as landale. who has stints in europe and nbl then NBA..

Boban? I think he's undrafted

yup, he was undrafted in 2010 but eventually made the NBA after 5 yrs when the Spurs signed him for the 2015-2016 season

good example, how old was he when he made NBA and what are his stats as a 19 year old

hmm
2010–2012
In the summer of 2010, Marjanović signed a three-year contract with CSKA Moscow, on the insistence of Duško Vujošević.[4] After Vujošević was fired, Marjanović lost his place in CSKA's first team. On December 31, 2010, he was loaned to Žalgiris, until the end of the 2010–11 season.[5]

he avg 11 min 1st season and 12 min the next , when he was like 20 years old

In July 2011, he signed for Nizhny Novgorod,[6] staying there for half a season. In January 2012, he returned to Serbia and signed for Radnički Kragujevac on loan for the rest of the 2011–12 season.[7]

folks we should adjust the projection.. to align more like Boban.. which is really not bad at all..

Boban was 22 when he was drafted, 27 when he made the NBA

stats: https://www.basketball-reference.com/international/players/boban-marjanovic-1.html

Boban averaged less than 10 pts per game from 2007-2009

edit: at this point, we should just forget all the Kai-Porzingis comparisons as the only thing they have in common would be height,

Kristaps is currently averaging 20.3 pts, 7.9 rbds and shooting around 29.7% from the 3pt line, 45% total fg %. Further Kristaps averaged 14.9 mins, 6.7 pts, 2.8 rbs for Cajasol (Liga ACB) as a 18 yr old in 2013-2014)

I agree with this. Matching up against the starters every practice is nothing to scoff about. He will play in the actual games if he performs well enough at practice. Being benched in NBL games is not necessarily a bad thing. It's a start. Jock Landale looks slow in the NBA but was a Finals MVP or something in the NBL. Kai doesn't need to be Porzingis athletic to get playing time. He just needs to be fundamentally sound on defense and offense. He shouldn't go for highlight dunks if it robs him of energy to run back on defense. Or if it causes knee problems. He just needs to be steady on D and don't push his body too much.

Cams imergence isn't good news for Kai

Bairstow finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in his first start with his third NBL club and paired perfectly with Daniel Johnson's offensive prowess. Much of his impact was felt beyond the stat sheet in offensive rebounding, one-percenters and making the right decision on both ends.
The former Olympian may have originally had the ceiling of a franchise player but now looks reinvigorated in a two-way supportive role in Adelaide.

I'm torn about this, a. I agree that only players of the caliber of Dwight, Thirdy, Kiefer, and Parks stay in the B.League. I think Juan has that quality. He just needs to go to a team that will utilize him like how Nagoya utilizes Parks.

I do have some issue with developing in the PBA first, because yes, the local competition is undoubtedly better in my view, but the players won't get used to playing against taller imports that much. We have an all-local tournament, and another that has a 6'5"-6'6" import height limit.

Another issue I have is availability for main FIBA tournaments. The PBA schedule is not friendly to FIBA tournaments, and some teams are reluctant to lend players.

Well, sa bagay, if the player is good enough, he can secure an overseas contract even after playing in the PBA, provided he goes to the right team.

I feel like something like this would happen when he started getting benched for hero-balling. Tokyo Z headcoach seems to be super strict unlike San-En and Shiga coaches. But that's not to excuse him of his lack luster performance as an import. People on social media are giving the Tokyo Z team crap for not knowing how to use 1JDL but he was given chances and failed to deliver.

On 16.6 mins a game, he's only averaging 5.3pts on an abysmal 35% FG and 20% on 3. MPBL quality daw pala ang B-League? Then how come most of our players are struggling with the exception of Dwight, Ray Ray, Kiefer and Thirdy? Paging Mikee Reyes and his 20pts per game prediction for 1JDL while acting smug na MPBL/UAAP quality lang ang players.

Don't forget the fact that Tokyo Z is one of the weakest teams in the Division TWO of BLG.

And of the four players mentioned, only Parks is shooting above 44% from the field. The other three are struggling to shoot like everyone else. Even Dwight is only shooting 43% from the field.
