Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

It is quite obvious after the long layoff the coaching staff had analysed the film and were not happy with Kai's poor defensive effort. Enough so that kiwi Hyrum Harris has cemented his spot as the 4th string big. Manny Malou and Kai are now fighting for the 5th string big man spot.

Hyrum Harris is like the anti Kai, plays with a lot of energy and hustle.

It is very clear where Kai stands in the Adelaide pecking order. CJ and Jeff Van Groningen can say as much fluff as they want to the media praising Kai, but if they want to get wins in this league than there will be many many more DNP coaches decision for Kai "1 Point" Sotto.

fluff = canned answers

Kai simply is not ready for a grown mans league like the NBL.

This fact was very evident to those who actually watched the NBL before this season.

It will take him 2-3 years development physically to be ready to play as bench player.

Bench Player for an import?

Juan Gomez Deliano Announcement of Contract Cancellation

Thank you for your warm support.

At Earthfriends Tokyo Z, we have decided to cancel the contract for the B.LEAGUE 2020-21 season after mutual agreement with Juan Gomez Deliano.
In addition, we will inform you that it will be announced on the free negotiation player list on January 18th (Tuesday) today.

We had a lot of discussions between the team and the players, and it was like this, but during that time, we were very sorry that we couldn't explain the situation to everyone.

We are in the middle of the season, but thank you for your support for Juan Gomez Deliano.

Juan Gomez Deliano Comment

Thank you Tokyo Z for giving me the opportunity and opening doors for me to play in such a beautiful country.
Thank you Yamano san and Coach Hugo.
To my teammates as well that made the transition easy for me, I will always value friendship more than anything.
I learned so much despite everything that has happened and I'll always be grateful for that.

Thank you very much to Tokyo Z, Yamano-san and Ugo HC for giving me the opportunity to play in the wonderful country of Japan.
And I am grateful to all my teammates for making it very easy for me. I was able to build an important relationship that cannot be changed by anything else.
I have learned a lot from this team and will continue to be grateful.

He can be signed by any B1 and B2 teams. T1 League teams can get his services as well.

B1 should do.. he could’ve choose b1 from the get go but the euro coach of earthfriends prolly promised something about 1gdl about liga endesa stint that’s why he took that offer even though 1gdl is b1 league calibre player..

Yeah, I think Juan should look for a B1 team that could use his talents, and allow him to make mistakes, just like what San-en did with Thirdy.

For me, PBA still the best option for him first, He needs to rise his stock, Only Pinoy coaches will do this thing, Unless you are Ramos kind of caliber at amateur in the PHL, Most of them should think twice before going overseas.. Ripen their skills here is must before moving outside, Do we think Kiefer, Bolick, Perez, etc... are the best (If not the best) If not on their starting PBA career, who developed them to be best players in their current position? His confidence is on all time low, He needs to rebuild his confidence first here in the PBA before moving again overseas if he want too...

I'm torn about this, a. I agree that only players of the caliber of Dwight, Thirdy, Kiefer, and Parks stay in the B.League. I think Juan has that quality. He just needs to go to a team that will utilize him like how Nagoya utilizes Parks.

I do have some issue with developing in the PBA first, because yes, the local competition is undoubtedly better in my view, but the players won't get used to playing against taller imports that much. We have an all-local tournament, and another that has a 6'5"-6'6" import height limit.

Another issue I have is availability for main FIBA tournaments. The PBA schedule is not friendly to FIBA tournaments, and some teams are reluctant to lend players.

1GDL is probably the 1 of most talented among his peers, but am i the only one seeing this pattern?

1. Gets demoted to the bench in his final year in UP
2. Gets demoted to "For Future Consideration" in the last FIBA Window, and was behind SJ and RJ in the pecking order, after playing strong in the previous window
3. Hardly played in the BLeague SECOND division and reportedly clashed with the coaches.

Obviously, it's not the teams that he played for, it's him.

we've seen this before in IBN (i.e. Japeth, Kobe), attitude problem perhaps? I hope he get things sorted out, sad to see such talent go to waste because of immaturity

Why did his coach benched Kai Sotto??

That is the best question to ask them. He did not even receive even a single second. Nakaka awa naman si Kai." He looks very prepared and full battle gear. And what is insulting there coach even said that Kai is now healthy and ready to contribute, but it is all PR crap.

He should have chosen the NCAA path or Euroleague or even Bleague. If he will be bench and not respected like this, he will never develop. Coach Tab is maybe correct that he can give a better training for Kai in Ateneo.

Up to now, i'm not convinced with this idea. He might have become a great team player, yes, but as to becoming a legit NBA prospect is concerned, Ateneo basketball is not the way, IMO. I was rooting for him to take on the Real Madrid offer 3 years ago. He might have had a better development there, I believe.

Anyway, it's all in the past now. He's still got 20 or so potential games left this season. I hope he still gets those important minutes no matter what the game situation will be on those next games.

I was gonna mention this. I dunno about the attitude problems but I feel like he regressed. Maybe he peaked too early? He hasn't looked the same Juan since returning to UP to be honest ( no disrespect intended to the Thai's but they're not really a good team).

Less mature TRomeo clone, also an inferior copy.

Note both Cam and Harris are personally coach CJ recruits . (Were recruited after CJs appointment)

Hardly or No 20 year old is drafted without averaging at least 10 min. In previous league play..
Note from a draft perspective (were average age is under 20 yrs ), Kai is no longer considered a young draft prospect

Read for reference why this is important https://bleacherreport.com/articles...uld-be-a-big-factor-when-evaluating-prospects

Playing time is earned and not given. Coaching staff at Adelaide and at Ignite have evaluated Kai as a role player and not a main rotational player.

If Kai is that good of a prodigy he should have been a rotational player back at Ignite. Up to now in a different league in the NBL ganun pa rin he is not part of the main rotation. Napako pa rin sa bench.

Kung magaling talaga siya like Lamelo or Giddey, he should be starting now. Pero hindi.

He is not showing enough in practices to merit playing time. Why do you think he is not ranked in the major polls or mock drafts? Because probably the red flags since the BWB game is still there. It is up to Kai to work harder and address his weaknesses to get better

Patronage bias

Patronage bias

A local NBL fan in Australia asked me why Pinoy fans had an overly exaggerated view of Kai's abilities?
I was thinking about it , and I think it's a natural response to look to highly of our own.
Tab once told me , this group as usual looked too highly of their own. To be fair , it's not a uniquely Pinoy trait. We experience the same thing in New Zealand. Remember no Kiwi has yet to be selected as a next star. NBL player. I've been in debates with fellow Kiwis explaining to them, that it's actually fair as we really don't have a recent teenager who is a legit NBA prospect for the succeeding draft year. Obviously people were passed of with me.

So if it's any comfort, it is what it is

LOL that's an understatement, delusional is the right word to use

I agree. I really felt bad for him. He is getting bench just like his last stint in the G League.

Well, if he will not get decent minutes in G-League, how much more if it is a more a established league like NBL? We should have expected this already.

Kai has two years plus one year to prove himself in NBL. After this and there is no sense of development on the part of Kai, try his luck B.League or KBL and be a good Asian import there. I believe that he will burn some minnutes there.
