On Ange Kouame vs. Kai Sotto

Relax, guys. It's just one video clip. It's good to see him play with Gilas and complete an alley-oop. But is JUST one play. You've been on this earth long enough to not judge a game by its highlights.

Bro, its more than just one play we've seen in a video clip featuring Gilas practice. Its mainly from coach Tab's statement in which he said like pinahirapan ni Kai si Kouame sa Gilas practice that this discussion is based from. I don't put weight on the video clip as much as I put weight on coach Tab's statement.

The thing about Kouame is that he hasn't faced somebody like a Kai Sotto before. Yung mga nakalaban nya sa UAAP & college basketball eh his fellow FSA who are no taller than 6-foot-10. And just like him, those FSA bigs are more like role players & not really heavy scorers. Perhaps Kouame never faced a 7-foot-3 player as skilled as Kai Sotto all his life. Kai on the other hand had faced lots of 6-foot-10 & above athletic & mobile big guys in the US so hindi na sya nanibago matching up against a Kouame.

Kouame is an insurance in case Kai or Edu isn't available and the best that the PBA can spare is Soyud and co again. Plus the other choices aren't exactly as appealing with zero chances of getting an exemption and older..

Honestly, I don't think any eligible Pba Centers now is really a must for Gilas.

JMF is injured
Greg sucks
Japeth retired in gilas
Cstand ineligible

Here is the thing also, even if the cadets and Kouame play some games in May vs PBA teams, it's not like Kouame will be playing vs Junmar, Greg or anyone above 6'8 for significant minutes..
other than playing is better than nothing, the value is really almost negligible.
All of that exposure can be with simple scrimmage.. vs the 6'8 cadets or whoever

Agreed.

If Kai is to be an nba player this year. (Or atleast draftee). No reason for him not to dominate ange.

With all respect to Ange, his skillset is lacking to be an Nba Player. Hence, he was not drafted.(I know he is unknown, but there is a reason why he is unknown in nba)

Kai is famous among nba people. Mark Cuban, Bayno, Nets Scout, Drummonds Trainer, Collin Sexton, female scout(I forgot what team she is under) knows the existence of Kai.

Havinh said that. Kouame will stil be valuable for Gilas.

Kai and Aj may not always be available. As weirdguy said, he is an insurance big.

I hope Kouame improve more though. Good thing Kai gave him a wake up call

Whats the alternative? Of course PBA talent aint a good barometer of the talent of Serbia/Dominican Republic but Kouame vs CStand is probably better than vs Isaac Go. Its not negligible.

Yup better than not having official games,

The exposure can be replicated in close door appropriate type simulation. So yes it is negligible .
Playing in front on TV using PBA rules , while the best bigs (junmar)aren't available.

Of course revenue is important (that is the main advantage

Ah you were saying the games could be done closed door and with FIBA rules. Fine but if its televised I guess the PBA talents try harder.

Getting Phill African college imports designed to play a certain way to replicate FIBA situations would actually be better. FIBA Goal tending rules with close to 7 foot Africans is more appropriate exposure than 6'6 pinoy centers using PBA rules

Which African imports are you talking about? I know the ones with La Salle are in Africa. Also you'd rather have more African imports in the bubble vs actual games with actual teams?

I agree if we want to beat a mid level Africa nation. Who are those Phil African college players.

There is still difference between talented professional players and collegiate players. Look at Thirdy, the best collegiate player we have, struggling at B.League. Compare that to our PBA teams who had beaten several B.league teams in EASL. Romeo vs Thirdy against B.League teams performance. Who did well. They are using FIBA rules on those tournaments by the way.

Most wont believe individuals who praises Kai. It is always skepticism and he needs to prove further his capabilities.

Analyze would pounce on one writer's take that Kai MIGHT have problems with PNR defense.lol the statement was uncertain but it was a certainty here before. These days that writer comment somehow was really far from reality. Kai proved that he is capable if he will put his mind on it.

You can form hybrid line ups for sparing partners that simulate FIBA gsme situations .
These line ups could be PBa players with available big African imports.

Then throw in some PBA games if you want.

Both will help.
But if you needed to choose just one for preperation , I'd go with the 1st it is more valuable preperation

Kouame's match ups during his UAAP stint:

Adamson - Sarr (6'7), Lenda (6'11)
La Salle - Baltzar (6'8), Laput (6'10), Bates (6'8), Samuel (6'8)
FEU - Tchuente (6'9)
UST - Akomo (6'8), Chabi Yo (6'6)
UP - Akhuetie (6'5)
NU - Gaye (6'8)
UE - Diakhite (6'9)

The ones that are close to 7 feet are Lenda and Laput and these dudes are far from being skilled.

The most skilled players here are Chabi Yo and Akhuetie and they are far from 7 footers.

They next skilled big here is Justin Baltazar who is a homegrown talent.

i think papi sarr is already/about to be deported

source: http://cnnphilippines.com/sports/2021/3/15/BI-orders-deportation-of-ex-Adamson-player-Papi-Sarr.html

you are right, only Chabi Yo and Bright are of quality, and unfortunately both are under 6'7 and not natural centers

Having everyday games (with officials) vs TnT reinforced by 6'10 Joseph (Ateneo), FEU and UP imports . Using FIBA rules , with resetting score board per quarter. For constant competitiveness.
I would say is better preperation for the cadets than playing PBa team locals using PBA rules.
Furthermore Tab can request what the other team should run offensively and defensive for real FIBA situations.

A line up of 6'10 import, erram, , Troy, Pogo and Castro isnt bad simulation., using FIBA goal tending rules
