Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

PBA Asian Import failed cuz they stupidly put a height limit of 6'3 for Asian Imports. That made no sense as it limits what position of Asian Import a team can get. Only guards which we abundantly have already.

I also don't agree with Mikee on this one. While he is correct, PBA locals are a step better than B-League locals, however severely underestimating the locals and he is acting like they're SEA level talent which they are not. We always have close games against them whenever we match up in FIBA after all even with Blatche in the team.

I agree. Had the PBA did not set a height limit on Asian imports, they could have landed better prospects. Problem is masyado nilang binebaby si Junemar.

Japan’s openness to foreign coaches as well as each team in the B League usually having 2 big imports on the court at the same time will do wonders for our players over there and with time, the quality of all their 47 teams and the players in them. It’s a much more progressive league than the pba it’s kind of like like comparing south korea and north korea, the other is insular, archaic and afraid of foreign influence and the other wholly embraces the full effects of globalization, I think we all know which is which. In my heart I would be sad to see the pba fade into irrelevance and become a nursing home for aging players because that’s the face of our ‘brand’ of basketball but not sorry, you refuse to modernize and adapt despite having a headstart and some of the most talented players in the region, you pretty much signed your own death warrant, it’s the natural law of things for the weak and those unable to adapt to perish. It is very likely that a shit ton of pba players are atm considering migrating to the b league, they should honestly do it before players from countries like Iran or other middle eastern countries start taking interest too which imo is very very likely since b league is looking like it could rival the cba in the near future.

Actually, Mac Baracael attracted scouts from Egypt and offered to play there as an import. Baracael turned it down. If a player like Baracael was able to catch the attention of scouts in Egypt, how much more if it is guys like Carl Tamayo and Justin Baltazar?

It is not really a far-fetch if MENA countries like Saudi, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar and Iran actually offer Pinoy players to play in their respective leagues.

In addition, there are a lot of OFWs in the MENA, mostly in the ME part. Substantial addition to a MENA team's fanbase.

it's not just you, in a NZ interview with Tab to share his thoughts about teams in (real) Asia, , he mentioned Japan as the top team in the future (yes ahead of China and Iran) , ahead of Gilas..
many coaches share the same observation.

the success of the Japan women's team ( siliver Olympics and gold Asia cup) speaks of their development program..

Of course. Amongst all the countries you mentioned, only Japan can brag about having 2 legit NBA rotation players PLUS their NP.

takeaway their NP and 2 NBA players and japan is not top 7 team in Asia, in FIBA cup play a gilas team with no NP is still competitive provided the coach is not named yeng guiao

The same as Toronto Raptors that won an NBA championship with the addition of Kawhi Leonard or in Gilas, where we were competitive from 2014 to 2019 mainly due to Andrei Blatche. The thing is they were able to develop NBA players while we haven't.

https://www.fiba.basketball/world/u19/2021/team/Japan#|tab=roster

in their 2021 U19 squad, 5 of the 12 are hafu.

4 are 6'5 and above, the other one is a 6'1 guard

looks japan might still even be better than us in 5 years when our 'golden generation' hit their primes

anyways i found the ones playing in the seniors team, both were previously bench warmers in top tier NCAA div 1 teams (portland & georgia tech):

6'9" Avi Schafer - SeaHorses Mikawa (23 yrs old)
6'9" Hugh Watanabe - Ryukyu Golden Kings (22 yrs old)

add their 2 6'9 nba players and their frontline is gonna look solid for the next 15 years

For sure he will be the GOAT in the PBA.. But if we remember who are best players in the PHL playing internationally, I don't think Junmar is in conversation..

Very much agree with this. If we are talking about the best Pinoy cagers that made a mark in Asian basketball, then guys like Caloy Loyzaga, Allan Caidic, Alvin Patrimonio, Jayson Castro, should be in the conversation. Junmar Fajardo doesn't come close to what these players had exhibited playing international basketball. This despite Junmar going down in history as the player with most number of PBA MVP awards.

Not hating on JF but it's a lot easier dominating the PBA when there's only one player who's taller than you.. and that player is as slow as molasses. How would he improve as a player when it's easy two point whenever he posts up

Comics manga.. the continuation c/o SlamPH

But why should we not include the NBA guys? they are Japanese arent they?

in other news, Kobe Paras posted in social media requesting to stop featuring him in any hype and highlight videos and focus on the other players that give more glory to the nation.

My take: Posting not be posted brings more attention to the poster.

And his team harvest most of the bigs in the PBA who could be his threat banging inside (AVO, Cstand, MO and possibly Slaughter)...

Di ba? They had the 2nd best bigman in the league as his backup for a while. Even Nabong who could pose a threat was on his team.

SMC hoarded almost all the legit bigmen. Almazan , Erram aren't exactly on their level.

Now my innocent mind cant erase the fact that its quite funny to see AVO and word banging with PBa bigs not only Junmar in same sentence:cool:

AVO is damn lucky that we are in golden age of Philippine big men as..

Sabi nga daw, Chot Reyes didnt coach pba during the Big man Fajardo era (the period where he wins his 6 straight mvps)

To make it more exciting Gilas takeaway Kai and AK versus a Japan with no NBA players and NP.

Well a Philippine team without it's 2 top players and an NP would probably have a hard time too making the top 7 teams in Asia..

That's the trick of SMB eh, hoard as many quality big men in your team (even if some of the quality bigs would not get ample playing time & opportunities) so as to get as much advantage over the rest of the pack. That is why SMB also moved heaven & earth to also get Standhardinger in its side kasi pag napunta si Standhardinger sa TNT or Meralco, eh malaking threat na yan vs. SMB & Ginebra. This even if Standhardinger couldn't get his game going at SMB becoz of the presence of Junmar.

Agree.. Nothing hate on Junemar, He's very good player and as a person, But PBA protecting Junmar too much, The reason why Junmar never work of his other facet of his game, It took 5-6 years before PHL coaches here exposing his weaknesses due to PBA's protection of Junmar.. I think Junmar will be on challenge against bigger and stronger imports then he will accept it to improve more of his game... For sure he will be the GOAT in the PBA.. But if we remember who are best players in the PHL playing internationally, I don't think Junmar is in conversation..

The ironic thing is after playing most of his career at 280 lbs to be an immoveable force in the paint he has to play at 250/260. The lighter weight and playing wary of breaking a leg has made him far from the immoveable force he was.

And now he’s at a weight that could facilitate him playing face-up or off the dribble but he isn’t used to playing that way.
