Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

U mean our case for "exemption" before FIBA? That for instance pagna exhaust na natin yung exemption kay Kouame or Clarkson, wala na tayong "alas" for another exemption for Balungay's case. Is that what you're implying?

Now, if for instance Balungay isn't eligible, then we can still consider him as one of our naturalized player options in the future. In particular post 2023 FIBA World Cup. If for instance by stroke of luck, Kouame is declared by FIBA as eligible thru exemption, imagine a Gilas team with Kouame (as a local player) & Balungay (as a naturalized player) some 4 years from now.
Di ko masabing "alas", its more of a "favor" from fiba. Given that Ballungay, just a few months or a year short before we discovered him, as his us ncaa career is going nowhere so really it would be a good story just in case ah that Kai had tapped his potential and become a player capable of representing Philippines in international competitions, why would you "deny "a guy like him to represent or play in Fiba competitions given that he proved hus filipino lineage as he was already given Philippine passport thru his "proven" Filipino lineage..

with him playing in the philippines for college theres a chance we can request for him to play as local much like greg and spencer. same scenario.

lol eh iyan din pinagsasabi niyo last year nung asa Ignite si pabebe niyo eh, tipong "wait till the games start ..." tanggapin na kasi ang masakit na katotohanan na ampaw iyang beybi niyo, tapos pag walang impact sa nbl isusumpa niyo naman iyung mga coaches at kakampi niya.

Discussion has been decent the last few days. You need to know when to stop. For crying out loud, GROW UP…!

Watched the Egypt game. Kai is sorely needed in the front court. In fact I think even Greggy boy could be serviceable now. He's Barney no more.

Great analysis by Hoops Highlights if you did not watch the game.

I'm just talking defensively, since you cannot teach height. I'm a few mins in and while his BBIQ will always be kulang, his movement is fast enough to stifle teams like Egypt, since middle eastern teams like attacking inside-out.

Balungay is very talented. Lets hope and pray that he will someday get an exemption just like the Greg Slaughter case or Indonesia Jawato.

He's more famous for locking and intimidating a young Kai Sotto, went toe to toe against Geo too, with a big frame he's another player that can play 4 or small 5.

If only Tab and Gilas limit the midget guards in the top 15,and instead have serviceable bigs like Lepalam and Pangalangan, this bigs badly needs some competition against guys their size. Add Matthew Aquino as another tall 3,an insurance if either Tamayo or Balti is not available.

just being objective and realistic here, Kai Balungay is in the same boat as Koon.
Do note how long residency Greg had before his application for exception was made. (not saying he had to wait that long, but it is clear in the letter his residency was the main basis. residency was the main thing also mentioned in Jawato.
what we have get over with , is while indeed other connections such as parent or grandparent being a former citizen or having a connection to a country does matter. it isn't the main basis for exceptions.

The main basis are explicitly mentioned in the rule book
1. # of years residence and 2. # of years domestic play ,, that is super super clear... and it's been confirmed multiple times in the letter of the sec gen for the main reason for exception

so if the sec gen is to make an exception in the future, guarantee 100 % the same reason of residency and domestic play have to be present . (do note it was present with Jawato and it was mentioned again, even if WC hosting was probably the main reason but not mentioned )

I love greg and if he can reverse his bad habits from the analysis especially his lack of effort in Defense he can really be effective.

Greg was playing pickup level in running the floor. You know just let your teammates run on defense and automatic fastbreak for you if they get a stop.

But even with that they were a Kevin Ferrer patay ang butiki shot away from tying or winning. In halfcourt he was a presence specially against June Mar. On offense he finally focused on face up than postup. And that hookshot off a rebound against June Mar was golden.

But what I like about this level of Greg is he forces June Mar to play outside. And even when he passes Greg there are long high fliers like Malonzo and Onuwebre to bother his shot. Hopefully June Mar polishes his perimeter shot and drives for their next matchup.

Yeah. He's also athletic & with impressive wingspan. Could play both the 4 & 3 spots. Balungay could be our poor man version of Yuta Watanabe.

Lets say Christian David suddenly expresses his desire to play for Gilas who do you prefer guys? David or Balungay for NP if they cant play as locals?

It's dependent on who can train and prepare with the players more. Balungay is joining Ateneo so he has that advantage.
if David can join Ateneo then that's different. assuming he can , then yes maybe Christian , he has a better resume.

Seek exemptions for young tall bigs like hepa and sage. Sbp better start now.

Well they better get residency and playing years in the Philippines then. There is no exception without those, never was.

I'm curious. Got any ideas why more than half of Nigeria's roster(most of them born, lived and studied in the US) got exemptions?

Yes their citizenship laws (which I shared previously) are so much easier to acquire citizenship, so any prospect of decent level below 16 , they basically can wholesale give them passports .(even grand parent roots is sufficient), naturalization of minors is doable as well. (It's not for us)
Read below how easy it is to register as a Nigerian citizen
Basically the president can grant citizenship to anyone .. so the Nigerian federation can simply give the president a list of 15 yrs old, then done.
By registration: 26. (1) Subject to the provisions of section 28 of this Constitution, a person to whom
the provisions of this section apply may be registered as a citizen of Nigeria, if the President is satisfied that -

(a) He is a person of good character; two people to testify to that which one should a Religious minister...
(b) He has shown a clear intention of his desire to be domiciled in Nigeria; and
(c) He has taken the Oath of Allegiance prescribed in the Seventh Schedule to this Constitution.

Essentially if Sage Tolentino wanted to be Nigerian before 16, and the President liked him, he could be granted Nigerian citizenship.
With us even if Sage was fine with us working to get his passport via hokus pokus, we could not.

Bottom line Nigeria can do hokus pokus instant u have a passport we cannot

closest thing we have to that would be Congress passing a bill naturalizing someone, but that will take months/years, been done to minors like Akiko Thompson (90s swimmer, japanse mom, american father raised in the country) and Farrell Eldrian Wu (born and raised in the country from Chinese migrant parents)
