It is obvious that EWP and Kai's camp is silent

I think being silent is the right thing to do for EWP/Sotto camp for now, let all the negativity and hype die and work quietly on their options. Being out of the limelight will be good for Kai's mental health which probably suffered due to this setback.

It should be sana, National team first.. You see how suffer Slovenia, Latvia, Croatia w/o NBA players in them.. Even Canada suffers that most of their players wanting to have a NBA career rather become a National team legend/mainstay.. Buti kung sana cooperative ang PBA natin.. But nevermind!!! Cstand, Erram, Japeth, etc.. declined Gilas Gilas invitation means a lot for our program.. Our legit bigs only available is Kouame (still pending his papers), Edu (injured) and Kai (derailed G-League plans)..

Many reasons why players skip international competitions for their NTs. We cannot fault them for prioritizing their main source of income rather than NT duties, especially when they have already served before. it's unlike FIFA and football where players really put all their heart into it when gets called to play for their country. maybe because inter-national games are scheduled few and far between.

FIBA introduced the so called "windows" for international games, to emulate FIFA, but so far, all it did was to agitate the top leagues. Heck, NBA dont really care about this window, and even the 2nd best league in the planet, ACB of Spain ignores it.

While we whine about the canceled kai stint with Ignite, that development may also affect Ignite's recruitment next season. They already struggled to lure enough blue chips this 1st season, how much more with this development, specially when it comes to international recruits. Heck the other international recruit, princepal singh, is being treated like garbage under Bryan Shaw. Green was ranked either 1 or 2 with cade cunningham before. Kuminga may end up the lone gainer here. Viewership has also gone down not just for the ignite games but for the entire bubble.

Anyway, could kai return to TSF or any similar programs? Kenyon Martin Jr skipped college and just played for IMG academy and still got drafted.

Unpopular Opinion: It did NOT matter if Kai joined Ignite. The result would have been the same: Kai and Ignite parting ways.

There's only one explanation as to why Kai and his group would even consider joining Gilas: playing time.

Ignite wasn't willing to give him significant playing time so it affects his sponsor.

Chot is part of SBP. He makes sure MVP's interest will always be at play in all of Kai's decisions. I think the only thing that would matter with SBP will be their 2023 hosting. Afterwards, maybe Kai would be free to do his thing. I still believe Kai will be drafted this year or any other year. This SBP 2023 agenda is too much of a distraction for Kai's NBA. It should be best if NBA first then 2023 but maybe SBP doesn't want any hindrance for Kai's availability for Gilas.

I think this would be a bit similar to how Yao was always beholden to China. That was more of China's control and patriotism while with Kai utang na loob and family welfare.

You seem certain of these things, OK.

Yeah.. Ignite should be only for prospects.. Not for veterans who want to make a comeback/revive their NBA careers.. Now with this issue, future prospects will not go there.. They would rather stay in their respective schools as the "Man among boys" or going overseas just likes LaMelo Ball or Emmanuel Mudiay..

As far as I can tell, Ignite is like any US collegiate team. It favours tried and tested players or, as others would put it, one and dones.

There's no need to be hard on the kid. It's possible the whole thing wasn't working out from the get-go.

That's why the likes of Makur Maker and some prospects they declined the offer of Ignite.. They see this already.. They don't want to be back up player because it will hurt their chances to prove themselves and raise their draft stocks..

All that said and done, Kai didn't really miss out on much. Being on the team and not getting quality minutes won't raise Kai's lowly draft ranking.

For some reason, I half-expected this.

You seem certain of these things, OK.

It is so obvious analyze. I believe Kai would really play for gilas with all his heart but those making decisions were Ervin and EWP. Both EWP and Ervin are after earnings and kai's NBA goal but SBP is their biggest client for Kai these days. If they were just focus in Kai getting to the NBA, then they dont need to consider Gilas in all of their decisions.

Im all for Gilas because I have been a fan eversince but Kai will change Phil bball in modern times. We shouldnt be greedy and let Kai develop and achieve his dreams first. Also, SBP has been selfish and making back dealings with players hence the uncooperation of a lot of PBA teams. They already corralled the attention and media for Gilas who would in turn translate to unlimited advertisement for MVP group. They should act as unifying body as they should be and not pursue their agendas in dealing with NT players.

In addition Kai will be the face of Gilas and the face of world cup 2023, he will be a bigger and mainstream star by that time. The exposure, media mileage and financial benefits would be too enticing for Kai's team and more than any NBA team could offer at this time. I would think that Kai could fully focus with his NBA journey after 2023.

Competitive real games vs legit size competition...
let's hope for the best... hoping to pull something off.

Kai is young and developing.

Junmar is oit or prime. And coming off an injury.

I don't think it will settle.

But obviously, Kai have better skillset than JMF.

But yes, if ever, Kai should outplay JMF.

San Mig has a succession plan for Junemar. When Kai is eligible to play for the PBA, San Mig will get him by hook or by crook.

Unlike other bball player from other nationalities, a Filipino bball player takes longer to develop physically, mentally and skill-wise for him to be a NBA or even an Euroleague-caliber player.

As I have said, there is a big problem in developing our players from the grassroots level that remains unaddressed.

Other countries have improved by leaps and bound in their basketball program. Unfortunately, the Philippines stagnated since we won 3rd place in the Worlds BBall Championship.

Binaboy nating mga Pilipino ang ating basketball program dahil sa ating greed, selfishness, delusions of grandeur, arrogance, corruption, immaturity, self-interests, disunity, short-sightedness etc. We can't get our acts together.

Skipping the OQT and confirming to join the Asia cup, is an independent decision from who they send for whatever competition, NZ will still send the C team for the Asia cup like it did in 2017.

there is saying "You don't know, what you don't know." .

November 18 for the draft and September 28 for the combine

that schedule is for the 2020 nba draft. no way they will be 2 months after the nba finals. in usual season, nba combine coincides with the nba playoffs, around may. then draft june. nba finals this season is set to end 1-2 weeks before august.

November 18 for the draft and September 28 for the combine

It would be interesting to see Kai's official measurements. That could boost his stock and put to rest the talk that his unathletic, weak or has a short wingspan.

Maybe in quantity but not quality.

If green and kuminga go top 5 and atleast 1 gets a first round selection, prospects will still be lured into this especially given the pandemic.

It looks like it is assuming that 2021 will follow the same Schedule of 2020.

Anyway, Granted it is.

Kai can still play in Fiba Asia Cup in August.

Nba Combine Virtually Sep 28 - Nov

Nov 18 - Nba Draft.

And Yes,I want to know Kai's exact measurements. Scouts also looks in that area.

And If I am not mistaken, Nba is measuring Nba Players/Prospects without shoes

It would be interesting to see Kai's official measurements. That could boost his stock and put to rest the talk that his unathletic, weak or has a short wingspan.

Yup.

If you are a scout. You are also considering those things.

Height, Wingspan, Standing Reach, How fast you run wholecourt(I forgot what it is called), Vertical Reach, etc

Nah.. MVP will not let that happen.. Anyway Kai playing in the PBA and joining PBA draft is very last option for him.. His skills is too much for PBA..

it happened with Greg Slaughter, who MVP removed from Gilas 1 to play for Ateneo, then eventually was offered a lot of perks by SMC to join a draft year that MVP teams has no high picks

My question really is, how has the program helped the prospects so far. Well, for Kuminga, it has boosted his stocks, definitely. Green has actually been on the losing end - from being either top or 2nd down to 5th. Nix and Todd were already in the mock drafts before ignite, particularly Todd who was being projected as a 2nd rounder. So, i don't know where people really draw their "improvement on the ranking of Todd" who is just placed at 54th in the latest. And for the Indian kid, shaw has been hurting that kid's career big time.

Top 5 is still very good IMO. Plus the other prospects are really good. Cunningham is the consensus number 1 pick after that anyone in the top 5 could go anywhere.

Cunningham being the consensus wasn't the case before, it was either him or green. That's how much his stocks has dropped. And for one who was either 1 or 2, number 5 isn't good, definitely not very good. I'd even say it's been bad for him so far.

https://www.espn.com.au/nba/story/_/id/30383235/nba-mock-draft-loaded-no-1-pick-race-new-top-60

This is one of the earlier mock draft that I can find. Cunningham was already projected at 1. Green at 2. And a bunch of underperforming prospects scattered in the top 10. Kuminga isn't even in the top 5. To be honest it doesn't even seems that Green is the top player on his team. While he's playing ok the other prospects are playing better. Good thing is he can still improve his stock.

That was before when MVP group don't have farm team to do the task to get their preferred players.. with having blackwater, they can task them to tank for Kai or any prospects that they wanted too .

Is it really a possibility that Kai would eventually play in the PBA?
