what would be great to see is a game between Ignite and Gilas with Sotto. hahaha I wonder what would happen, especially if we put Belga in the line up. ;)

If Kai decides to enter the 2021 nba draft. I hope the Spurs drafts him. They are known for developing international players and unheralded players.

That will depend on how good he is by then. Even if he gets drafted, there's a high possibility he spends more time with the Austin Spurs like Luka Samanic.

Kai playing in Europe, or in Japan or in China or in Australia or even in the PBA would be fine for me. But playing in Thailand? A big NO! I won't even think of it. Kai won't gain anything from it except money.

This whole fuck up was about money from the get go.

I won't be surprised if he ends up taking that offer.

well he's already automatically entered/eligible in the 2021 nba draft as per NBA CBA, regardless he wants to or not he's already part of the draft pool

Automatic eligibility
Players whose 19th birthday falls during or before the calendar year of the draft, or at least one year removed from the graduation of their high school class, and who do not meet the criteria for "international" players are automatically eligible if they meet any of the following criteria:

-They have completed four years of their college eligibility.
-If they graduated from high school in the U.S., but did not enroll in a U.S. college or university, four years have passed since their high school class graduated.
-They have signed a contract with a professional basketball team outside the NBA, anywhere in the world, and have played under that contract. They also must be released from their contract before they can leave college to go to the NBA

Those who have reached the minimum eligibility age of 19 and meet the criteria for "international" players are automatically eligible if they meet any of the following criteria:

-They are at least 22 during the calendar year of the draft.
-They have signed a contract with a professional basketball team outside the NBA within the United States, and have played under that contract.

here's the previous discussion regarding Kai's draft eligibility

You're actually incorrect - automatically eligible players DO NOT NEED to apply, only those who declare early need to declare and enter (US college underclassmen who leave college or international based players before they turn 22 yrs old)

People are confusing the process of the PBA draft with the NBA, in the PBA as in most global leagues you do officially have to enter an application regardless. in the NBA this is NOT the case. Entry applications only apply to those who want to enter early before they are automatically eligible (Kai is automatically eligible in the 2021 draft so does not apply to him)

The draft rules via the CBA are clear unless there is an exception or different than common interpretation, all players who sign a pro contract with a US based team, are automatically made available to be selected by NBA teams in this year's draft. Of course no team can force an individual to play or sign a contract, but it is the right of NBA teams to draft all players made available even without their consent. If an NBA team wants to draft Kobe Paras (assuming he's 22 yrs old already) it is totally under their right , even if Kobe Paras does not want to enter or consents to enter the draft. Kobe Paras essentially was NBA undrafted in 2018 ( his 22 yrs birthday) , even if he did not enter the draft publicly or officially..

Like it or not, kai will go apply this year.. remember who handles kai.. it's in the CBA.

Bottom line is this , in summary:

Unless there is a different interpretation and application of the CBA rules,

if Kai wanted to enter the draft later (2022 onwards) , he had to either :

Enter a US college and stay as an under classman
or
Join a non- US based team (either amateur/ school or Pro)

Once he signed a contract with a US based pro team he essentially re- classified and entered the draft on the year of his 19th birthday. ( period- unless the CBA rules are interpreted differently )

F*** this. He already shot himself in the foot, we might as well make lemonade with this lemon of a situation. Once the FIBA Clark Bubble’s sched is finalized, bring him back to play in Gilas. And at least he can play alongside Kouame now.

he's only 18, the nba window is not yet closed but getting drafted may no longer be an option as signing with ignite screwed up his draft eligibility, now Kai and his handlers should distance themselves from the limelight and work quietly, and not rush things.

EWP was pretty childish in leaving Ignite and then going back thinking Kai would be accepted with open arms. Mikee Reyes is right, they made an NBA affiliated organization look like a fool by leaving the team. And they made themselvea look like fools by expecting Ignite will accept them.

EWP should stop with all the BS marketing stuff. Just let Kai play ball. LaMelo ball played in Lithuania after leaving the US. Maybe Kai just needs to play somewhere outside the spotlight.

Of course he can play in the 3rd window. But it is a risky proposition. He is the youngest and the one with least practice of that pool. Its okay if he plays well. But what if he under performs? Its best for him to play outside the spotlight. Europe looks like the best thing right now.

Well the EWP guys already spent a ton of money on him and his family, its time to leverage the contract.if only someoned didn't get greedy and saw only money on this kid,he would be the go to guy in NCAA,imagine him slowly dominating and looking very good against othe big men in the NCAA.

If Kai and Kouame both play in the PBA as guest team, Do you think they are heavy favorites to win PBA RP Cup? I hope that if Gilas cadets will face either TNT, Meralco eh walang bigayan na manyayare.. I know NLEX vs Gilas will not be a "bigayan game" because of CYG vs Tab "pride" match.. And hope Coach Yeng will not do dirty tactics again..

Yes. But SMC usually have some referees favoring them.

As for bigayan, it is inevitable.

Back when Smart Gilas 1 is dominating the PBA, and reached the semis.

They let TNT win. It was abvious they gave up that game

I dream about it atleast one time that Kai vs Junmar will face off.. Kahit dyan makikita natin now who is the best center in Philippine basketball

Kai is young and developing.

Junmar is oit or prime. And coming off an injury.

I don't think it will settle.

But obviously, Kai have better skillset than JMF.

But yes, if ever, Kai should outplay JMF.

You said he's young.. Then acceptable if he's not perform under our expectations.. And also you right about playing in Europe.. But i hope they will put a clause that if Gilas plays in important tournament, especially in August then he should be available.. Yun sana ideal for him..

Do you think Tab will give him significant minutes immediately? Do you think he can immediately play in the system or blend in?

It's good if he does but what if not? Can you imagine local uproar if Kai, who had dreams of being an NBA draftee this year, does not play well or play significant minutes in Gilas?

EWP set the expectations too high already. If they and Kai can take the heat by all means join Gilas. Tab will not prioritize Kais brand over the national teams development as a whole. We dont even know when the qualifier will be. The PBA stint will be only ok if they can accept getting small minutes.

EWP set the expectations too high? I say its youtubers, maybe some in the media and to a lesser extent some posters here. I mean EWP should sell Kai like he is gonna be great, its the rest of us that should take a closer look. Not saying that he wont be great, just that he is quite far from that right now.

according to this article, signs of breakup between kai and ignite was set before kai flew back in the country. we can only speculate on what things happened between kai and ignite before he proudly announced he is playing for gilas.

https://tiebreakertimes.com.ph/tbt/whats-next-for-kai-sotto/202155

This is the only time pba minimum draft age is a positive thing.

Kai can play in any pro leagues around the world, except PBA. Lol.

Since pba minimum is 21,while Kai is turning 19 in May.

Kai joining Gilas as a Pba Special Team is an option. But it is not even approved already.

Kai may train for Nba Draft. (That is his original plan, before ignite offered him)

After all, if it is true that Kai will be automatically entred in draft, I am sure some nba teams will consider him because of his potential, and yes marketability na rin.

Sino ba ang nag set ng bar for Kai? Neither Tab or EWP or Gilas itself.. It only us fans and medias who are demanding too much.. For me i don't care if he can get heavy minutes or minimal in Gilas.. Darating din yan for Kai.. Gaining experience internationally is the most important for Kai as of the moment.. Si Giannis ba babad nung 2014? Diba hindi, even he's a NBA rookie that time, because Greece knows that Giannis time to lead the national team in the future will come.. Ditto also for Kai.. In future he will lead us.. Haddadi route for Kai is the best example on how he can get into the NBA w/o US experience..

Being compared to ATGs by fans before he even played a single game against grown men certainly set the bar high.. like any other young players he has to earn and take those minutes. If the coach is favoring or giving more minutes to the other guy then show him why you deserve to play more. If those guys drop me then I'll make sure they regret it.Kai should use this incident as a motivation to work harder and avoid distractions to reach his dreams.

Correct.. nakakainis pa ung ibang youtubers na grabe ang hype kay Kai for their youtube earnings.. They destruct Kai in other ways.. Even the medias.. They should leave Kai alone and let him focus w/o any destruction from them..

This is not just a Filipino thing, Overtime for example prioritizes viral vids even if the kids arent really that good (McClung, McCabe).
