Filipino Players in Foreign Leagues

Funny this poster here thinking that Gilas can't leave without Kai. Gilas has been playing since February last year without Kai. Have we lose a game already? Not yet. This despite the fact the team has been a Cadets' squad since last year.

But our opponent is only Thailand and Indonesia.. 2 lowly rank SEAG teams.. they not tested yet against high level competition...

I thought that without Kai, even Indonesia can beat Gilas. I just mentioned that Gilas is 3-0 and the fact that they already beat Indonesia, now they are just a lowly team. Talking about consistency.

That's their call.. Ayaw ko din yung ginawa nilang pag decline sa Ignite but they have the reason why we should accept them that time.. Before, i comment here if the likes of JP Erram, Almazan and Cstand commit to Gilas last February eh sana SBP will not waste their effort bring Kai here.. Blame PBA for not supporting Gilas program at first place... Sila dapat nag rerepresent muna sa Gilas as of now.. Even Greg Slaughter.. All talk only but no action... Remember he said he will commit to Gilas? Where is he now?

it’s always sbp fault for you even EWP is the obvious one..

PBA is out here. we’re talking about kai/EWP and his commitment. why include PBA here?

That's his Kai and his team choice.. Dapat nga SBP should decline Kai's camp offer eh.. But i have thoughts there before because you have to remember that time:

1.) Ange Kouame is not yet naturalized that time
2.) PBA players particularly bigs are begged off also, Out of 29 eh 6 lang sumipot
3.) w/o legit big man eh even Indonesia w/ Prosper and Jawato have a chance to beat us

Think of it if SBP declined Kai's offer, who will be our legit big man for Gilas if the February window proceeds? Soyud? Chua? Goodluck defending Prosper and Ratliffe downlow... And nung time na yan eh Kai is also arrive late that time.. Wala naman issue that Tab says he should be there 1 month prior..

If Kai's camp actually wanted for Kai to come back and play here back in February then why would SBP decline the offer? Their camp was directly in communicating with Ignite kaya dapat mas alam nila ang situation. You expect SBP to know better than Kai's camp in terms of Ignite? It's EWP's fault the Ignite debacle happened. They should have known better. There's no reason for SBP to decline Kai's offer if they were willing to commit in the first place.

EWP has trouble communicating with Ignite and Brian Shaw even way back in December. You guys are barking up the wrong tree blaming Tab and SBP when it's clear EWP was the one messing up.

if kai was a GRO she would've gone dry now with all that "real game" inactivity

lol kai left ignite because he didn't want to be a benchwarmer, and now with kouame in gilas he's afraid he's afraid he won't get the minutes he thinks he deserves - i won't be surprised if he bails out on adelaide once the nbl season starts

From Snow Badua's source: Kai is expected to arrived tonight, will not suit up in the Asia Cup qualifiers, but will be available at the OQT

Barring any delays, Sotto is expected to arrive at around 10 p.m. Monday night.

The 19-year old, who is committed to play for the Adelaide Tigers in the Australian pro league, had to undergo an RT-PCR test in the US, especially since the flight will be making a stopover in Japan.

However, another source bared his stint with the all-cadets Gilas side in the Clark bubble isn't cast in stone since quarantine protocols may deny him enough time to train with the team.

A source from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) said Sotto may no longer be called to join the Gilas cadets in the Inspire Sports Academy bubble in Calamba, Laguna “so as not to distract the system’.

“Malabo pa kasi pagdating n'ya d'yan sa Pilipinas, may mandatory 14-day quarantine siya, kasama na yung swab on the seventh day,” said the source.

“Technically yung 14 days nya matatapos 'yun ng June 14,’ he added.

The Fiba Asia Cup, which the country will host, is set from June 16-20.

But for sure, Sotto will be backstopping the Gilas team that will compete in the final Olympic Qualifiers in Serbia on June 29.

The Philippines will need Sotto’s height in the OQT as the Gilas squad will be pitted against Dominican Republic and host Serbia in Group A while Group B is comprised of Puerto Rico, Italy and Senegal.

The Top 4 finishers in thar tournament will be given the final Tokyo Olympic slots.

If this info is accurate, then I'm fine with Kai not playing in the 3rd window for as long as he plays in the OQT.

And its not like Kai's presence would really enhance Gilas' chances by a significant degree in the OQT. Its just that I want to gauge how Kai fares in the senior level FIBA game & also I want him to start his assimilation with the Gilas system & the bonding with the rest of Gilas players.

And we will hear some that kai didnt prepare enugh for oqt or sorts hahaha.. were living in difficut ti.es now where our a month or so preparation is now hampered with quarantine protocols

What the big deal with 2-week delay?

What the big deal with 2-week delay?

Makes me wonder, what if Kai arrived here in the Philippines 2 weeks ago. I wonder how much important Kai's training was in Miami these past two weeks that he has to delay his arrival in the Phi for Gilas training?

Maybe Kai's training in the past 2 weeks has brought him in the level of Porzingis or a Jokic. Maybe Kai should extend his US training by 2 more weeks so that he would be able to play like a Michael Jordan or a Kobe Bryant :cool::cool::cool:

Probably more important than his Ignite commitment.

Maybe they really believe that he doesnt need to practice to dominate these games.

Note Gilas can have a different 12 man line up for each game in the window So Kai can technically play just 1 game.
Additionally Gilas is just1 win game from qualifying for the Asia cup. So after securing that 1 game, gilas technically can just experiment with rosters.

And seriously can just play Kai for one half . And just a 12 minute run .. no problem

Maybe Kai playing in the rematch vs. korea (Gilas' 3rd & last game in the 3rd window) is a good idea. BTW, even if Kai will not play at all in the 3rd window, I feel he still should go with the team in Clark.

If Gilas has 2 games vs Korea , maybe don't play 1 game with Kai. The 1st one .
Then 2nd give him limited minutes just to see how he fits

He can do a 7 min stretch in the 2nd quarter for the 2nd Korea game .

It's realy simple , play like the way you prepared . It's not rocket science.
The 36ers would do the same , in It's 1st 3 games in preseason. Assuming Kai just had 1 week practice with the team. He wouldn't get burn.. any coach would do the same.

Even legit imports who come in as replacements in the NBL don't get to play much with little practice.. and these are for games that matter .

And BTW there is no need to rush things , it's not like Kai isn't a long term project for Gilas.

lame reason by ewp actually. their reason is the 14 day quarantine then they should’ve gone to RP around 1st week of may not tail end of may

According to a source from SBP. Kai will arrive here on Monday on June 1.

And will finish all protocols in June 14(according to source)

First game against Korea is June 16.

Only 2 days in between.

Honestly, there is a chance Kai will not play in 1st game, but will play the next 2 games

But if coach tab will implement his ruling to Kai without exception. Kai will probably play in OQT and Asia Cup where he really clearly commited

Didn't Baldwin say in that spin.ph interview he wants a minimum of 3 weeks for players flying in/being invited to (why Dwight Ramos is now untouchable compared to a JGDL or Thirdy) to a bubble setting? It was also interesting how he broke down the levels of competition in terms of having a particular player in the lineup, RJ Abarrientos is a sure starter at the Southeast Asian level but needs to be an elite defender (which he's not yet) if he has a shot of making the roster against the world class ones like Serbia just because 5'11 is just too short.

Apart from Kai... I'm waiting on whoever's left of that 2019 team to express their intent this week otherwise it'll be just the guys in the bubble plus Kai, JGDL, and maybe Thirdy in the OQT pool. The Ateneo team made it a game with a full-strength Korea so I guess it'll just come to breaks of the game with the current pool. Heading is probably an upgrade over Neito while the rest of the guys have more length and shooting than Ateneo 2 years ago. That said, I just don't think anyone needs to panic over Indonesia without Kai. Tamtambakin nila yan.
