we're still confirming if it's true that he just got engaged .... this might affect his future basketball plans. the girl is Afro-american and a sister of his team mate.

im frustrated to japeth aguilar... he go to america to play basketball, and then he got injured so many times, the only thing that work for him is he develop his english, and he gain some weight, but his basketball skills... hmppp. i doubt.

he practice but never play because he is always injured. waste of height.

maybe japeth is just after the record of being the first pure born filipino to be able to play in the tough US NCAA Div. 1 league.

well Joe Devance has also a forgettable collegiate stint with the UTep Miners, look at him today with the Alaska Aces he's the second option after Willie Miller in scoring (now dont put stats or whatever here here, im just pointing out that japeth has improved his game abroad).

japeth hasn't playing because he has injury, he maybe practicing but playing the game is a different story. practice makes perfect, but without right exposure and experiences still talent is still wasted. but only time will prove his real worth.

happy new year guys!

has anyone here ever heard of alvin agir? he had an article written about him on slam magazine 2004. filipino who was born in new jersey and played in NJCU a ncaa div 3 team. in the article it said that he was asked to play for the national team but declined to stay in the u.s, just wondering if anyone has heard of him and got any info on him.

i totally agree with you bro...
but even japeth won't play this season of us ncaa,it's better for him to be part of either pba backed rp team or the developmentall team of toroman..
on both team, japeth will improve his game and if luckily japeth can find team abroad like the cba of china or even in the euroleague...

There are also many US NCAA Div. 1 players who ended up as busts in the PBA. Its a case to case thing.

modz i think this and the other thread should be merged >>> Other Filipino-American BBALL Players
[I think these are distinct issues, even though things get pretty mixed in the section. I think the other thread is more of research than this one is. rikhardur]

Japeth is ready to play
WESTERN Kentucky University center Japeth Aguilar has recovered from injury and is ready to play, according to his father former Philippine Basketball Association player Peter Aguilar.

In an overseas telephone conversation from Chicago, the elder Aguilar said the 6’9” Japeth, who was injured right before the start of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I season, already started practicing and would most probably suit up in a game scheduled for this weekend.

Aguilar said Japeth suffered a metatarsal injury in his right ankle, but has healed with proper rest and therapy.

The WKU Web site reported that in a New Year’s day game against Troy University, 6’9” center Jeremy Evans was likely to start, but there was no word on whether Aguilar, who is in the lineup, will suit up and come off the bench to replace Evans during the game.

Aguilar said his son will return to the Philippines after he graduates next May and hopefully earn a slot in the Philippine Team, coached by Yeng Guiao, although the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas national pool has also indicated its interest in recruiting him. Ronnie Nathanielsz

True what you say about the major difference between game and practice, but I truly believe that Japeth is getting better just by him being involved in a division 1 program. You said in a recent post that it's a waste for him to be here in the states and totally disagree. When he does go back to the PI he will be a stronger and smarter player.....

nice to know that bro.. just him a enough time to feel the game nad we can see what japeth can do.. it's nice to start new year with japeth back in the groove

The second Filipino to make it on Slam. Ryan Reyes was on it years before this guy when Artesia High was featured in Punks. The article didn't feature Reyes like it did Agir.....
