If there is a realization in this recently-concluded Gilas's campaign in this World Cup, that is the best players of the Philippines are no longer in the PBA:

- best player is Jordan Clarkson (NBA)
- best bigman is AJ Edu (B.League)
- best two-way wings are Dwight Ramos (B.League) and Rhenz Abando (KBL)
- best scoring guard is Robert Bolick (B.League)
- best shooters are Ray Parks, Jordan Heading and Matthew Wright (B.League)
- best point guard is RJ Abarrientos (B.League)

Kudos to Africa (Sudan) and Asia ( Japan) for finally outplacing a Euro (France and Finland) and Oceania (NZ ) team.

I have to admit both Japan and South Sudan are at the level of NZ .

It isn't rocket science, what the key is, it's basically the ability to produce players , using the most common proven pathway, elite exposure at major leagues during HS and college age ( Div1, Euro /Australia academy while playing in pro league even while in High school

This is really the foundation. No amount of good tournament preperation can offset the foundation pieces of developing world class players (pipeline)

Is Jordan almost beat your ass? Sometimes learn to be humble… Asian teams can beat your team now… China also beat your team in some of preparation games… Egypt almost beat your team and much higher rank than NZL, they beat Mexico that your team didn’t beat, Egypt could have beat NZL, if not for one guy who always arguing with referee w/o any thinking that the game is very crucial… in reality, NZL is a normal team only…

same sentiments, Junmar may be slowfooted but he knew how to use that heft against DR and China

AJ Edu can decently score, can rebound and, most importantly, can DEFEND.

Not discounting on June Mar because this is his best stint with Gilas. However, we cannot deny that Chot heavily used AJ Edu than any of the Gilas bigs.

What pathway does Sudan have tho? They don't even have an indoor basketball court..lol not to mention a country experiencing civil war just years ago

Their players are either in Australia, US or Europe. They are developed there.

Yes i know but that tells you something that a country without an indoor court and experiencing civil war produces NBA talent better than us is telling about the nature of the sport..

Is Jordan almost beat your team? Egypt is much higher than NZL since they beat Mexico that your team didn’t beat… even China beat your team in tune up matches before… so that means NZL is not that elite level… and Asian teams already figure out how to beat NZL… Egypt can have beat NZL if not that stupid mistake by one of his player that always arguing in the referees that killed the momentum for them…

South Sudanese heritage are the tallest human in mankind.. that means it’s easy for them to find basketball players… if you look at their structure, they better suit as a basketball player, their size, athleticism, versatility that makes them second version of Nigeria….

Post up plays are minimal in international competitions… junmar was unplayable against Angola, SSD and Italy… he was exposed already, as he can’t defend perimeter, not a rim protector, very slow laterals.. AJ and Kai are rim protectors, thus, they are more valuable than Junmar…

Not yet, FIBA asia cup qualifiers will start on February 2024… 24 teams will compete for 16 slots for 2025 fiba asia cup…

Also, these national teams are gonna have their respective training camps & play some invitational/pocket tournaments during the June, July, August period next year.

Watch out for Bahrain… they might replace Iran as next west Asian powerhouse… Iran w/o haddadi is done already… even Saudis will make some noise here… 3 Asian teams will represent OQT next year… Philippines, Lebanon and Bahrain…

Sespite the early dissapointment lebanon was low key one of best asian teams in this world cup..

yes stars were aligned perfectly for Japan, though they really have so much potential especially if Rui choose to always play for them during off season and with the wealth they have its about time till they tap a legit nba player as their naturalized player, they are really a budding super power if not yet in sports not just in basketball

I think they have too much pride just to tap anybody. I think all of their NPs played in their league and got naturalized the normal way, by having tenure and knowing how to speak Japanese. They have the money to get any NBA player but they never got one. Instead they developed their own.

Iran may have lost the venerable Hamed Haddadi as he had announced his retirement from the national team, but Iran unveiled a potential Asian superstar in 18-year old 6-foot-7 wingman Mohammed Amini in the World Cup. Amini, whom I forsee as Samad Nikkah Bahrami's heir apparent, is Iran's top scorer in the World Cup. Imagine, at 18 yrs old eh ikaw na yung top scorer ng senior's team mo sa World Cup..

Amini must really be so good a young player.

should IBN schedule a meet-up with Chot?

I’m willing to answer every single one of their comments as long as they talk to me face-to-face. Just don’t hide behind … social media, come and talk to me face to face and I will answer all your points one by one, on why certain decisions were made and why it is what it is,”

This is a point that I agree on. As I said, Chot is only about the 4th most to blame for our disappointing performance. I would say Al Panlilio, Vargas and Al Chua are more to blame for limited preps prior to this year and the mysterious exclusion of certain good players. I think his culpability more is in his system and in his belated realization that JC was better off as an SG. Even the JC as SG move might have been only possible against the weakest opponent China, because Dwight found it hard driving against our previous opponents. Even his system is not so bad if you factor in that it is a "system" that you can plug and play a dominant scorer with minimal practice time. It obviously isn't effective at winning but that's another discussion.

All this hate is actually better pointed at to Al P, Vargas and Al Chua. But being the good and loyal Pinoy that he is, Chot won't laglag these guys in the media. He attributed to this when he said that wouldve liked to have included guys like Balti if not for things that were because of the players and outside the players. So he alluded to decisions that superseded him and the players probably SMC and Al Chua.

Finally, I think Chot resigning is a good thing because he has been lightning rod for all the bad in our basketball program that he doesnt really have control in. Without him the guys in the background will have to come and face the public and take responsibility for their bad and selfishly motivated decisions.

But they will have a hard time finding next haddadi for them… haddadi’s presence in past 18 years makes Iran a powerhouse in Asian basketball… it’s hard to replicate that… I hope Iran federation will give him jersey retirement… he deserves that…
