Let Japan celebrate this. 2 consecutive Olympic appearances though the one is because they were hosts but nonetheless let them celebrate. They did the right things. Kudos to them!

BUT I think that will be shortlived. Because from what I have seen, Japan never changed the way they play. They just made it the best version. Speed, precision and shooting. They will live and die with that. Once that is figured out in the Asian region back to the drawing boards yan.

We in the meantime is even far from our best version. Heck we don’t even know out version. Once we crack it o god who knows where we will be.

And remember South Korea still looms which I think overall is a better team than Japan. Too bad they backed out of tournaments due to covid and political issues. Imagine that South Korea is still there.

so let Japan celebrate for now….

"Where we will/could be". How many times have we heard that? It's an endless cycle of hope and failure. We always lamented that the best possible team was never formed. Now that it has and yet still the same failure happened, what now?

Shortlived or long term, who cares? The same goes with South Sudan. They did everything needed to get a spot in the Olympics. Meanwhile here we are again with our never ending "what ifs".

Who cares if they go back to the drawing board after 2024? They got what they attained for. How about us? How many times have we returned to the drawing board only to end up imploding? The best achievement we had was ending the "Korean Curse". LOL

They succeeded. We failed. Again. For someone who claims to not be emotional, your statements show your bitterness towards Japan and their success. You just can't wait for them to fail. We, on the other hand, are CERTIFIED LOSERS.

Choke's answers to the press where he deflects blame to the fans instead of acknowledging their shortcomings specially on the SBP's side is why he is undeserving of any slack. He is the de facto spokesman of the SBP given that Panlilio is never interviewed by journalists. The average fan do not even know who he is. He is in charge of damage control and his perceived arrogance fuels the hatred of the fans even further.

His actions run contrary to his statements. For someone who did "not want" this stint, he had the time to tailor a signature suit for this event.

Chot brought it upon himself with the statement "judge me after the world cup" fans were just giving their judgement, in 2014 we was one of the heroes for making the game competitive and winning one game as nobody expects that it will turn out that way, just like what Harvey Dent said " it's either you die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain

He is just inately arrogant and full of himself just because of 2013.

He could have chosen a safer statement but no. He is just reaping what he sowed.

hovasse system brought consecutive fiba asia womens championship and a silver in olympics.. sure some tweaks here and there but his system works..

maybe being rejected a lot in the past made him the way he is, though to be fair he achieved a lot as a coach but the lights are too bright for him to not be a part of it, he is like an old boxer who keeps on wanting for one last fight but always getting knocked out

He wants to prove he is not a 1 success wonder and he can do it without Alapag/Castro/RDO.

Very kind of you to not mention Andray Blatche when talking about players that carried Chot's weight.

I praised them right? Where is the bitterness there? I said they did things right so kudos to them. And i just said my honest to goodness assessment of their system.

you know what of course i want them to fail. And for them to fail we have to beat them. You know why? Because they are now the number 1 team in “asia” and the gold standard. And for us to succeed they should fall and be beaten. So i am congratulating them now. But i want it shortlived because i want to beat them for us to succeed and not be losers as you said.

we are losers now and who nows until when. But where is your anger coming from? Of course because you know we are miles better than what we have shown. And deep inside you know we can be better than Japan. That is why you are so mad at chot. Because you know he failed and he is not fit and man for the job. Because someone can do better and make us the best team in asia in this world cup and not japan. Because if we all know hanggang dito na lang tayo what is the point of all these name calling and bashing and all the sayang panghihinqyang na damdamin.

really…

oh and by the way i also stressed SOUTH KOREA… which I think is better in terms of ball movement and speed and shooting.. my own opinion actually..

not to discount Japan but can they beat the teams that we faced, they will be favorited against Angola and China for sure but im curious to see how they will fare against Italy , Dom and SSD they did what they need to do but most of the teams they faced were the worst of their respective regions

No team in Asia can beat SSD… those dudes are too tall, too athletic, too versatile for all of Asian teams, plus they have 2 NBA caliber players in their roster (Jones and Gabriel)… as I said before, I don’t like that match up vs SSD… match up wise, we have no advantage against them… we can be better match up vs Puerto Rico than SSD to be honest… if not for SSD choking in final minute of their game vs PR, they might already in the 2nd round… they can’t beat Italy and DR too due to obvious reasons… but 100% sure they can beat Angola…

Chot was really given a lot of concessions whenever he handles the national team, in 2007 the members of the national team were pulled out from their mother teams in the 2nd conference to have enough training time, only to lose because of his whining during the closing seconds of the Iran game, in during the 2013-2014 era of the national team league adjusted the schedule for longer training time and it was a success plus he has the core of the his tnt players that know his system from A to Z , if i am him i will retire and ride till the day i die with good showing in that period, he could've give the reigns to another coach the coaching of 2014 Asian games but i think with the good showing in the world cup made him think that they can have a podium finish only to get disappointed by the crooked mindset of the Koreans by not allowing Blatche to play

The shift of power in Asian basketball is already seen… Japan is already the best in asia right now… take note, No Rui Hachimura there but they won 3 out of 5 games… I see Lebanon is the 2nd best Asian team right now… with arakji considered today as best Asian player (w/o NBA guys) outside Asian descent NBA players… they can change spellman anytime with better NP that has discipline on his body… Korea, Jordan and Philippines will fight for 3-5 rank teams in asia… Iran and China now in transition.. so they might go down right now in Asian basketball scene.. Zhou qi become disappointment in China basketball, wang zhelin become useless and Guo was politicise there inside the CBA, the reason he was not there.. while Iran will struggle in post haddadi era… one team should be look out for in next fiba wc cycle for 2027, the Bahrain team… remember they beat Lebanon in their tune up game and they all beat mid tier Asian teams in all blowout fashion… they will join the party there and will beat all Asian teams…

i think in a good situation and better preparation Gilas can beat the teams that Japan defeated, though props to them as they really did what they have to do and they did it without their best player

Can somebody remind Chot all the embarrassment/humiliation he gave to our NT from 2007 til today? thats too much people had enough.

We can't barely get decent tune ups games vs top teams because all the humiliation he and SBP gave to us KAPAL NG MUKHA..

he deserves all the hates including his son josh, but others specially his wife and other family wag idamay this is just basketball.

Remind him baka he forgot why fans hate him please.

C’mon man, give credit where credit is due. He brought us to the World cup for the first time in a lot of years back in 2013-2014 and first win against senegal in that world cup. Probably we wouldn’t be in this position going to world events (world cup, oqt) if it weren’t for him.

tama nga you are only as good as your last game. Sadly for him it was an utter humiliating failure.. kaya nakalimutan na un..

A team with Castro, Alapag, Norwood and Blatche would've made it to the world cup themselves without Chot. Yall are such easy baits for Chots theatrics

Technically, Chot achieved two historic things as coach of NT team:

First World Cup win after 30-plus years by beating Senegal in 2014
First time to beat China's team A since the 80s

I hate Chot as much as the next guy, but, blind hate can't erase those achievements.

Your praises right from the beginning until now always ended with pahabols contradicting that so-called praise. Just like Choke's sorry not sorry statements. LOL

Iran and China ruled Asia for the longest time but I don't remember anyone nitpicking their system, their strategy or waiting intently for their style to fail them. Just you and your Japan. We were Korea's b|tches for God knows how long but nobody wished them to fail. At least not here in IBN. You're the only one here who insists on Japan's "ineffective" style and who still insists on being right even after they clinched the Olympic slot when the problem our team is facing is the SBP, not Japan.

Yes we OUGHT TO BE better than them but until we translate that on the hardcourt? Don't downplay their achievements with your asterisk-ridden praises. If we do everything right, nobody will care what system they run. It's about us, not them, not other countries.

I give full props to Castro, Alapag, Pingris, Norwood and especially Andray Blatche as well as the rest of the supporting cast and the managers that allowed multiple quality tuneups for the munikan nas in 2014. Chot definitely contributed but he's not the sole cause for that success, the man is just very talented at hogging all the glory.
