I think it was Chots own fault. He was enamored with playing Pogoy as a spotup SG. So he had the bright idea of making JC as PG to open spotup shooters like Pogoy when JC is actually better as a scorer not a facilitator. Abando, unlike Pogoy, is more of a defensive player that doesnt really need to score to stay in the game. JC could slide to SG and Dwight to PG and Abando as SF.
Also, the Chinese perimeter players are not as good defensively as the other teams. Maybe Chot didnt trust Dwight to create against the other teams leaving it to JC.
Regardless, Chot should have picked a PG who was not a defensive mismatch. This could have made JCs job easier and our offense more unpredictable. Unfortunately Scottie was a waste of a slot here. Well CJ too. But SBP and SMC are to blame here. They did not pick a bigger PG. Scottie is an awkward slasher st this level. Also, they did not train CJ to be a PG. What a waste of athletic talent.
first 4 games i think they were way too stiff and fixated on running plays when they should've played loose. that's when they're at their best. it was like they're running all these sets just to show they belong when they haven't really mastered how to execute those plays. but honestly, no one on that Chinese team could guard JC
