"There are so many powerful teams that didn't advance. Pero sa Pilipinas, bawal matalo eh."

How misleading, these egomongers live in their own worlds. Absolutely no fans are asking for a flawless stint, literally everyone just wanted to win against Angola, JUST ANGOLA, failing to do that is a valid cause of outcry.

here’s the full quote

He can live with a few uneducated people trolling him on the internet, people less popular than him have to deal with the same kind of hurtful words with no cameras and media publications to cry and sensationalize to, what makes him special? I'm not defending trolls, but this man is complaining about a problem on the internet that almost everyone faces.

he deserved every boo and criticism for his ego and arrogance, same with his son.

anything beyond chot and josh is foul na.

anyway lets move on from chot na nakakapagod na

@ robert, does lebanon’s win affect our OQT chances? or we are already in due to +/-

edit: well wiki says

What surprised or puzzled you the most about the Gilas team during the World Cup? For me, it was Perez's playing time, the NSD player's no-show, and the coaching staff's delayed recognition of Abando's potential.

Are we sure? Theyve got RHJ. LBN might win also. But are we in OQT?

Yeah… because Venezuela, Jordan, Iran, China and Ivory Coast are bottom 5 teams in this event… also escape and will play in OQT are Cape Verde and Angola…

Cape Verde is higher rank than Ivory Coast.. but we need confirmed it… and yes, we will play in OQT next year… Although Lebanon will get higher rank than us because they won two games…

Move on with Chot, berate the real root of the problem, Al Panlilio and co.

Jokes aside. Any idea if Chot is still program director?

He needs rest now… he already serve the country well even some miscues… his family needs him now… I guess Tim cone might handle Asian games and after that it’s reboot time for gilas and prepare for February 2024 asia cup qualifiers…

Tbh people are underestimating how good these international teams are Angola is a strong team. Coach Tab had a good program going on but he’s not the saviour that would automatically lead to wins, even he was focusing on development and trying to develop younger players to be a competitive team. Coach Chot clearly isn’t as good a coach but the real issue is developing good international players. Coach Chot is just a scapegoat at this point and management is clearly incompetent.

I remember still when they first talked about hosting the World Cup, management goal wasn’t to win, they literally said paraphrased “it’s unrealistic to beat team USA but they want to be competitive with international teams”. All these other teams aren’t being “realistic” but training to beat team USA so they are always playing catch up if that is their goal. Looking at this WC they definitely achieved their goal since the team was competitive but they should have been aiming for higher.

This, he's just a symptom of the problem, if we continue to have the same basketball stakeholders were gonna have another Chot like coach either its Austria or Pido or someone else that will take the blame for them

Would've made sense if the game they played against Angola wasn't winnable. China beat then in an actual game and Jordan and Japan did too in a tuneup. We're literally asking for a fish caught in the Pasig river for dinner. Making it seem like it's anything more than that is just insulting at this point.

standing so far, lol china doesnt make it to the OQT, SBP for sure will gloat about our 24th place finish, our best finish since the field was expanded to 32.

Thank God for a win. A win is a win no matter what. And thank god chot is gone. That is what we wanted right. I firmly believe changes will happen because this is a major blunder in our home soil. So let’s see what happens moving forward.

but really off topic. We all here see Tab should have been retained as director and coach. But for all the good he has done with gilas and ateneo, why hasn’t he been pricked from out soil by other countries?

I think it was Chots own fault. He was enamored with playing Pogoy as a spotup SG. So he had the bright idea of making JC as PG to open spotup shooters like Pogoy when JC is actually better as a scorer not a facilitator. Abando, unlike Pogoy, is more of a defensive player that doesnt really need to score to stay in the game. JC could slide to SG and Dwight to PG and Abando as SF.

Also, the Chinese perimeter players are not as good defensively as the other teams. Maybe Chot didnt trust Dwight to create against the other teams leaving it to JC.

Regardless, Chot should have picked a PG who was not a defensive mismatch. This could have made JCs job easier and our offense more unpredictable. Unfortunately Scottie was a waste of a slot here. Well CJ too. But SBP and SMC are to blame here. They did not pick a bigger PG. Scottie is an awkward slasher st this level. Also, they did not train CJ to be a PG. What a waste of athletic talent.

you fall in love with the country and an opportunity to educate kids through basketball. How many players has he sent to the international pro leagues already? I think that's way bigger than coaching in better pro leagues and a larger paycheck elsewhere.

Now Bay Area is disbanded, Australia out of contention, we have an opportunity after the Asian Games to secure Brian Goorijan and perhaps Tab Baldwin to steer the program to greater heights.
