and how sure are you that Tab will select or will have this current team, as i can see him going to the route of his 2021 team and might even choose Kouame as his naturalized player

I believe Tab would've chosen JC still, but he would demand more time and commitment from these players (JC coming in a few weeks before WC, Kai resting).

IMO, that FIBA OQT gilas team offense FLOWS better than this WC team. If pros executed Tab's system we have a legitimate shot at reaching QF at least.

But aside from that Gilas couldve had higher quality tuneup games than the one's Chot planned as Tab is more respected in the intl community.

Decent is still losing. Remember we couldn't beat Jordan.
i mean look at Japan and Korea. They have not had a close game in this WC despite all the Euro plays they execute.

That's very reductive.

Fact: Tab had no access to PBA players, Edu was still recovering, JC is not available, Brownlee couldn't have been used because of Tab's bad relations with the PBA

Not a fact: "an L is an L" weh di nga

This isnt a fair ground to compare Chot and Tab, let's make it fair and put the facts on the table

Include China to that. Tall players and all those Euro plays just to lose.

Slowly but surely we'll get the right recipe. For now kase, so far we've showcased Pinoy style of basketball with Pros and settled for moral victories (Chot - WC 2014)

We also played European with subpar collegiate players (Tab OQT 2020) and got somehow decent results.

Now we go again with Chot's bara bara style with a borderline NBA all star, PBA superstars and Overseas role players.... we've yet to see how far we can go.

It's fascinating how many versions of Gilas we've had already, hopefully there will come a time we don't have to experiment anymore.

Funny enough, it turns out it is not Kai that makes a center NP not a requirement, it is Edu. But if Kai doesnt show up we will have a problem. Edu is a PF to maximize his health. Without Junemar and Japeth and if Kai still disappoints who will play C to Edus PF? A healthy Kouame might be the answer. Edu showed that you can recover after surgery. Whats keeping Kouame? Its obvious he is playing injured

Tab always had to maximize what was available (2015 FIBA ASIA -- we were a Junemar or Japeth away from Olympics) .... Meanwhile Chot always had everything handed to him on a silver platter. He had an option to include Bolick and Heading in the pool, had an option to choose Ray Parks as well, instead we ended up with Pogoy & Kiefer....

I believe it's too early to rule out Kai in this competition. Obviously mismatch for KAT on the defensive end. Minamama. If he stayed on the floor they will exploit that again & again and put us in foul trouble early. But for Angola and Italy he might be a problem... KAT was our biggest problem in the group phase, now we're past that we can finally put Kai on the floor. Good strategy from our coaches.

EVERY single person in the OQT era awaited the return of Edu and the replacement of Kouame for Clarkson, like every single one, idt anyone ever disagreed on Edu and Clarkson's future inclusions, even Tab I believe said something about those 2. The rest were subject to debates but another widely agreed future sentiment is replacing Sj and Rj with Perez and Bolick. The only decisions idk Tab would undertake is making space for Japeth and Fajardo, some people believe players like Chiu shows a lot of upsides and are very malleable prospects, potentially more useful in the international stage in the future.

Geo Chiu is a serviceable player under Tab's system but Dare I say, he will struggle in the PBA. Maximum 2-3 years and he'll be in the MPBL or perhaps a corporate job.

Tab had to deal with that. Can't believe SBP allowed subpar players representing us at that level. Mike Nieto and Geo Chiu *facepalm*

Tab might have picked Chiu over Japeth.

Heading injured. Bolick wedding and contract. Ray Parks was not shooting very well in tune ups and defense not at par. No problem if he is included but he really didn't play well to make it a no brainer.

How is it a silver platter for Chot. He beat Korea without a NP. Stop the curse of Korea. We all thought it was a 20 pt average loss in WC 2014 because of bog losses in tuneups. Yet we were close against Croatia who only loss to Spain and Lithuania and 4th place in Euro basket. Argentina and Senegal 2nd placer in their continental tournaments.

Pogoy and Kief did a good job today.

Haven't posted in awhile. Tough Loss for us.

Anyway, if we are talking about what ifs, I think Tab would have chosen this roster.

Guards
Bolick
Perez
Ramos
Parks
JC
Heading

Forwards/Bigs
Tamayo
Baltazar
Edu
Sotto
Fajardo
Malonzo

TBH, it doesn't matter now at this point, but CCR is really thick-faced. Any other basketball federation would have been axing him by now, but no, he is allowed to make unlimited mistakes; it doesn't matter if he loss in the SEA games, ordered his players to shoot their own hoop or instigated a brawl and many many many more. Really disappointing, especially once JC was out. The offense was stagnant and sh*t.

Anyway, we actually did decent in 3PT shots today. I hope Pogoy can sustain his shooting and doesn't go back to building a bigger Philippine Arena. I don't understand why Perez did not see a single minute; outside of JC, I think he's the best we have for broken plays; he could have given us a basket once JC was out.

There is no way JC will shoot 1/6 in threes again for me. Assuming we beat Angola on Sunday, I think JC will give us a better game against Italy. I don't know if they will shoot as badly as they did against Angola (14% in 3s), but that's what we have to hope for and need to have a chance at.

As much as I loathe SBP, I still hope and pray with all my heart that we will be successful and qualify for the Olympics. After the WC, however, I hope we immediately revert back to a program similar to Tab's (it doesn't have to be him; even a local guided with a foreign consultant would be good as long as he is competent and to appease BCAP). For the Paris Olympics, if we qualify, we can retain the WC 23 team core and yes it includes the GOAT CCR while hopefully having teams B and C for our younger talents. Specifics about it don't matter at this point. Anyway, one can dream.

Imagine SGA with an NBA title-contending team.

Imagine Canada next year in Paris with SGA, Murray, Wiggins, Lu Dort, Dwight Powell, Alexander Walker, Cory Joseph, Trey Lyles, Kelly Olynyk and Dillon Brooks.... with their Spanish coach.

That's an NBA Playoff Team.

Their biggest rival here will be Dominican Rep.... Since DR has easy group compare to Canada... unless both of them surpass team USA....

Idt Tab will pick Chiu over any PBA players if he had the freedom especially not over Japeth or Fajardo, that's just a comment I've seen from people on comment threads that imo is a valid pov. The debates we would be having will be who to cut between Thirdy, Ildefonso or Abando. Idt anyone would even bring up Pogoy or Kiefers name, Dalph Panopio is also another name that disappeared completely after the Tab era, more people wanted him for gilas than they did Kiefer lol. One good player I admit Tab would've completely missed in his radar is Scottie Thompson, I also dt he would tolerate Parks skipping practice for pussy at all but that's one downside to like 5 upsides.

So many empty seats in a Canada-France game. WTF.

I don't think so... The France vs Canada was attended by 12,091 fans... Highest outside Group A games... Italy vs Angola was attended by 22k fans... The Indonesia Arena capacity is 16k... It was almost full to the rafters.... The lowest was Australia vs Finland that has only 5,600 fans (Okinawa Arena has only 10k capacity).... As expected, Gilas vs DR is highest w/ 38,211 fans

Indulging in daydreams is a good coping mechanism that can shield fans from the stark reality that this loss has rendered our Olympic aspirations even more challenging to achieve. Anyway, I'm really proud of our big players, especially Edu and Fajardo. They held their own against tough opponents, almost getting perfect field goals and making some impressive blocks. Kai also deserves kudos for his patience and maturity at such a young age. I'm sure he'll bounce back in the next few games when the situation is in his favor.

Yeah I believe DR is on the rise. That DR team we faced can be a podium finisher if they keep that team intact.

with DR & Canada being more and more competitive, Serbia and Spain's standing as world's elite is in danger. Argentina already fell off.

France is gonna look formidable with Wemby, Embiid & Gobert frontline.

Germany is like a well-oiled machine w Schroder directing the offense.

Slovenia just needs another NBA All-Star naturalized player to pair with Luka

Australia getting more STACKED every year as well. Only problem is who will replace Patty Mills once he retires.

It's gonna be US, Canada, DR, France, Slovenia, Germany & Australia fighting for medals during this era.

As for Asian teams, Japan has the potential to compete against the World's best if they get rid of their diminutive point guards and develop a strong frontline to help Rui & Yuta.

Philippines & China...... hmmm..... very unpredictable but for now, long way to go.

Lets not undervalue our team. JC might be an NBA player but Edu showed us that he is almost NBA level on defense. Edu is so good at defense even after 3 knee surgeries he was able to defend Towns better than all the other Euro league or NBA centers that Towns playes against in the tuneups.

We had a chance in this game because we have a player that so far no other team has. We have a player that can stop Towns enough times for us to almost win.

All the other level of DR players didnt matter. Quinones didnt matter. Liz almost didnt matter because DR was almost going exclusively to Towns. Edu was able to stop him enough times that Junemar stayed on the floor. DR didnt make plays for Junemars man because it wasnt Towns. It was almost a perfect game plan but Chot didnt prepare the only other player who couldve broken down the defense.

We had a perfect counter for Towns. Unfortunately Chot failed to game plan for the single weakpoint in our offense.

I think edu did his best but we should calm down about Edu’s defense he still had 4 fouls and Towns still put up 26 and 10

very sad Indonesia didn't qualify. But it would've been a total embarrassment had they participated in this year's WC. Imagine SGA being guarded by Prastawa or Sergio Llull guarded by Grahita. Total Massacre. no disrespect to Indonesia but they're still like 7-9 years away from being respectable even just in Asia.

The Dominicans grabbed 17 offensive rebounds against Gilas' 3, but our bigs scored a total of 25 points.
