This cycle, there's the Gilas team which had guys like Dwight, Isaac Go, and Baltazar (Juan GDL and Kobe were even part of that group) started from playing SEA-level opponents that had players like Jakrawan and Lester Prosper to being reinforced with Kai, Kouame, Navarro, RJ, and SJ (among others, they also had Tamayo who was massive for them) and gaining experience at the FIBA OQT's vs a Team B Serbia and a strong DR (without K.A.T.)... only to start from scratch with just Dwight and whoever was available depending on the window. We saw a lot of Kiefer, Malonzo, Parks, and Scottie plus pleasant surprises in Abando, Edu, and even Quiambao for a while.
In a perfect world, Tab would still be the coach and he'd have in the pool what was left of the 2019 team like JMF, Japeth, Almazan, Bolick, CJ, Paul Lee, maybe even Troy Rosario because he was part of Tab's previous Gilas team. Getting Brownlee as a naturalized player was a bonus because Chot didn't know what to do with Tab's 6 of 23 plus the impressive ones under him like Navarro, Baltazar, and both RJ and SJ. By the time Chot took over, the SEA-level has gotten higher (no pun intended), and only Dwight will make it to the final roster. I'm not even sure that Kai will make it.
