Hagop rule is for Asia only.

Asia is so weak and they make us even weaker

So Hagop Khajirian is to be blamed for this mess, right? You're spot on. Asia is already the weakest among the FIBA zones & Hagop made it even weaker by imposing this "passport before 16th birthday" shitty rule.

I say this "passport before 16th birthday" rule isn't applied to the letter in FIBA Americas, Europe, Africa. Only in Asia that this fucking rule was forcefully imposed by Hagop.

i thought hagop rule is for the entire fiba landscape, and fiba was given the prerogative to give exemptions of it see fit. Anyway, even with all those leeways for ivory coast, i dont see them getting out of the 1st rd

Imagine if this shitty "passport before 16th b-day" rule was not imposed by Hagop, Gilas can have Clarkson, Remy Martin, & 6-foot-6 wingman DJ Fenner as locals. Then we can have a 6-foot-8 stretch-4 as our NP.

I think this team can be champion in FIBA Asia Cup as Australia usually sends its team-B or even team-C in this tournament.

each country has different citizenship laws.. that 16 age cut off is being practiced by whole countries involved.. matisse thybulle is NP for boomers not local even though he spent time here in oz and got his aussie passport in his childhood days..

Fit spellman is better… but no this one… how Lebanon allowed him to be overweight? They should not give him outright spot as NP from the start, so that he can be serious on his conditioning and make his work for that spot… Lebanon already give him a spot early, that’s why his commitment in Lebanon is not serious at all…

Ah the Andray Blatche diet. It's going to tough losing those pounds

Blatche could have been serviceable today if he kept his weight in check. Heck he could still be in the nba if he was fit, he’s only 34-35

i miss prime blatche,

i miss prime blatche,

and play some here in NBL and willing to have pay cut and b-league.

Without the Hagop Rule, UAE, Bahrain and Qatar will probably get 12 NBA players each. LOL

The Hagop rule is all for the continental zones involved… in Greece, they tried to convince fiba to make Tyler Dorsey a local player, since he was half blood Greek-American and have residency for some years there but fiba denied it…

I still actually like the hagop rule… do you like most of the players in gilas are all American blood players? Only Kai sotto or in extend Junmar Fajardo are the local players can make the final 12 slot for gilas.. the rest are fil-ams… do you think Filipinos will be happy about that? They will be like Team USA v. 3.0….

Absolutely embarrassing and pathetic that people in here, fans and Quinito Henson are complaining about the FIBA eligibility rules.

Let’s look at our own players who weren’t born or even grew up in the Philippines shall we?

- Dwight Ramos
- Jamie Malonzo (not to mention it was a well known fact he didn’t have a PH passport before 16, then out of the thin blue air he suddenly has one???)
- Newsome
- Edu
- Perez wasn’t even born here

Stop complaining when we all know Philippines is just as bad as other countries with “eligibility”.

Speaking of competitive form.with DRs win vs Canada . I do think they are a legit final 4 contender now.

The inclusion of Kat as center piece, with everyone revolving around him, really changes DRs level

Not to sound defeatist , but for Gilas I would really shift focus on preparing to win games vs Angola , China and maybe South Sudan

Maybe the reason why we are stuffing the line-up with bigs, in preparation for China and South Sudan.

We are lucky China doesn't have Guo Ailun and Abudurixeti who killed us last time. Even Wang Zhelin is not lined-up.

It's a myth that if you scraped the Hagop rule, that Gilas would gain more than other nations ( yes we would improve , but not at the rate other nations would.

It false myth, that the % of overseas population of other.countries is smaller % compared to the Philippines

If we remove Hagop Rule...

1. The Gulf countries will be like Cambodia on steroids. If they can buy FIFA and FIBA, what more basketball stars.
2. South East Asia will be more competitive, specially Cambodia and Vietnam who have many half-Americans.
3. Given our limited budget, we will get weaker Fil-Ams not on the level of Clarkson.

Sorry bro, Even Dominican Republic can beat Italy… I will always convince that beating Italy is better to gilas chances than Dominican Republic… KAT is a game changer for them… he is really fit to fiba since his shooting is a deadly weapon to fiba setting… look at them, they even beat Canada (88-94)… do you think Italy can beat Canada w/ that weakest roster since 2015?

tell me not watching the game without telling me not watching the game, DR is tough and way stronger than gilas for sure but them beating canada without canada playing their stars in the whole second half while DR is still playing KAT and if Jean Montero did not make that 3 off the board Canada's bench might be able to steal the game

They can’t even beat DR… that’s why beating DR to gilas perspective is hard to imagine guys… I say beating Italy is a better shot (even it is also harder) than beating DR….

using your own logic so DR is better than Spain? so it will be DR > Canada > Spain as Canada beat Spain

DR looks much stronger with Towns. But seems to me he is still perimeter oriented. I would let Japs or Edu take him on.
