Problem is, our beloved PBA & SBP don't think the way pro leagues & basketball federations of other countries do (not even close). Other countries compose their national teams with the motivation of forming the strongest teams possible. SBP & the PBA have other things to consider aside from that.

In the PBA governors' mind, the league is still the best pro league in Asia by virtue of being the 2nd oldest pro basketball league in the world. lols

My final 12-man roster:

1. Kai Sotto
2. AJ Edu
3. Junmar Fajardo (He justified himself with that good performances in that stints in Europe & China)
4. Japeth Aguilar
5. Jamie Malonzo
6. Dwight Ramos
7. Jordan Clarkson
8. Rayray Parks
9. Rhenz Abando
10. Chris Newsome (I'm impressed with his defense)
11. Iskati Thompson
12. CJ Perez

I see the Gilas pool as loaded at the center spot but so thin at the 4 spot, though it is a consensus that Edu & Japeth can play the 4 spot. If only Carl Tamayo or Justin Baltazar is part of the pool, I'll pick any of them over a Japeth. I prefer Newsome over Oftana as I think Oftana is a bit out of shape, but it is a tough choice.

Agree with this final 12

Oftana is acceptable. But Pogoy? GOD help us!!!!!! I like Oftana actually, its just that I feel he's a bit out of shape & I'm impressed with Newsome's defense (whom I believed is Gilas best wing defender).

Oftana is too soft & passive

It's a shame that his game in the PBA during his NLEX days (improved handles, driving to the basket more confidently) didn't translate in international play. He was already shaping up to be the tall scoring wing that he was envisioned to be years ago.

I think it's more of his mindset. He seems very content being a role player. The skills are there though.

I saw flashes from him in FIBA of good defense. If he can do that and shoot well, that's good enough for us from the 3-spot. He's already a good defender in the PBA, too.

Who will broadcast the World Cup matches?

One Sports?

i'm planning to subscribe at the courtside 1891 just to watch the games at the world cup. the problem, though, is that the subscription is yearly basis. therefore, i have to pay 1300 annual subscription. hahaha

no way. lols

Isn’t it geo-restricted? Meaning it doesn’t work in the PH?

25USD for World Cup Only
31USD for Annual

I wonder if AIScore will stream them.

I hope the team preparation is proceeding well.

If they cant still have silky smooth transitioning, they can try 5 of 6 vs 5 of 6 in practice and even actual games. Then, they go on a platoon substitution. This is sometimes sub-optimal as you may not always have the best group of the moment on the floor. Not so much, if you have 12 2-way consistently good players.

But cohesiveness is guaranteed as they play mostly as a 6-man fully familiar group. The opposing team may not gain well. They will be facing two different sets of pinoy national team on the floor. A variation is best 7 offense vs 5 best defense. Ten days can still be enough.

Crucial for Gilas is on how fast Clarkson & Kai Sotto assimilate with the rest of the team as they are the late additions to the team. While these 2 players have already played & trained/practiced with the team before, I don't think it was enough to reach the right degree of cohesion/chemistry especially if we are preparing for a high level competition like the World Cup. Kai & Clarkson have to reintegrate themselves into the team. In short, Clarkson & Kai needs the reps playing/scrimmaging/training with the team & that thing takes time. How I wish Gilas still have 2 more weeks of training but it is what it is.

I say, this last few days prior to the opening of the World Cup is crucial for the team. My hope is, nobody in the team gets injured.

But outside Malonzo, Only Oftana has that length and size at the wing spot and he is also for future services (If in case that PBA still supporting the national team)... He is the best suit for 12th man for Gilas for future tournaments.... Newsome might be good defender... But we have Parks, Ramos and Perez to do his role, and yes, even JC... And he is what? 33 years old? He's useless after World cup...
