Angola struggling against Japan. No reason for us not to beat them. Unless Choke happens.

Angolan guards are SMALL just like the Japs.

No shotblocker for both sides.

So Angola still the same line-up in this friendly game vs. Japan from the one that played in the King Abdullah Cup a few weeks ago?

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast, which is scheduled for a friendly game with Gilas on Friday, beat Lebanon in a friendly 77-67. Lebanon's naturalized player Omari Spellman seems to have gotten even fatter which is detrimental for his game.

Porzingis pulls out of team Latvia due to injury concerns. Damn superstars are pulling out of the World Cup, this sucks, no Jokic, Giannis, Sabonis, Porzingis, Team USA A stars.

NzL potential beatable opponents based on power rankings

Look all beatable- Greece is now 15th (after Giannis without)
Nz is 17th , just behind Mexico 16th

And ahead of Montenegro- around 20th.

Of course Jordan and Egypt are 25 plus...

5 games (with exception of US and of course Lithuania) are all winnable, and arent even huge upsets.

Ah ok. So The 2 Watanabes got injured in the 2 friendlies of Japan vs. Angola. In the 1st game, it was Hugh Watanabe who got injured & it was said that most likely he would miss the 2023 World Cup. In the 2nd game on the other hand, it was Yuta Watanabe who got injured. But it was said that Yuta will be sidelined for a few days before he could resume playing/practicing with his team.

This is turning into a B tournament, pre Olympics, with the Olympics and OQT next year the A Premier tournament.

no matter how hard fiba tries to copy fifa, fiba can’t have the same authority fifa has.. i mean look at fifa whenever theirs a major tournament, no problems of lending of players (world cup, euro cup, qualifiers) but look at fiba.. major stars declining left and right and no major stars even in qualifiers..

fiba world cup won’t be the same as fifa world cup..

For football World cup is the premier event and Olympics is a distant less prestigious, for FIBA it's the reverse the Olympics is the premier event , with the World cup being quite a distant 2nd .
the world cup has also been water down to accommodate for wider participation among less stronger zones , Asia and Africa.

If FIBA can match FIFA or be clear cut second best tournament in the world, it needs to develop better parity and USA has to hopefully stop dominating every tournament and you can’t do anything but hope other countries catch up.
I honestly would work with Olympics to either expand the teams to make it like the FIFA WC or make Olympics under 23 again.

Olympics is kind of watered down when it’s like a two week tournament and only 12 teams.

For as long as the NBA is the world's pre-eminent professional league, FIBA will never have the authority like what FIFA is enjoying right now. For as long as other national teams are not constantly winning the gold medal, both in the Olympics and in the World Cup, the interest of fans, Americans or not, will always be lower. US has been dominating the basketball scene from the very beginning. In FIFA, the playing field is much more balanced.

In my opinion, one way to address the apparent imbalance between the NBA/US and the world is to elevate level of the competition of other countries' domestic leagues. American and international prospects want to go in the NBA. Have you ever heard a prospect that wants to play in Europe or in Asia?

So it’s basically Luka (hopefully), Murray(hopefully), SGA, Edwards, Ingram, Jaren Jackson, Brunson, Bridges, KAT, Markenhan, Jonas, Clarkson, Rui(I think),Gobert, DS, and Fran’s Wagner as best players this WC.

it would be much better if one of Giannis and Jokic played, and KP was solid but frustrating not seeing stars in this WC and pretty other WCs the past couple of years.

considering the culture here more stars would’ve loved it here.

This is the reason why other leagues should also lure the best talents in the world.

Yeah I agree with that especially since I have started following Euroleague. Issue is from what I’ve asked, it seems impossible for Euroleague to ever match the popularity or money the NBA brings. Most of even the top stats there still make like 9-10 million at best.

I think the Euroleague can be more popular, but there promotion is not great and will be hard to get all the top markets there for Euroleague to do great in those markets outside Spain and maybe a country like Germany or France.

might they can just get some of the bigger countries to air Euroleague in mainstream channels and make more money, maybe they can pay players around 15-20 million a year which can entice some young good Europeans to stay or attract some NBA talent, but it will be hard with the NBA always being the main dream for most ballers.

NBL is helping young prospects to make it into the NBA. The same is true with the leagues in Europe. I mean why not develop the leagues there into global ones like the NBA? NBA needs competition, not the other way around.
