Of course can always try to invite teams for tune ups

But reality is Gilas isn't really a priority or attractive team by othebs.to tune up agsisnt , they prioritize other teams , particularly European. ( which makes total.sense ).

Casing point NZ for last tune up before arriving in.Manila is Italy, can't blame them.for choosing Italy , rather than the teams in the same region. Who they regularly play against.

As Chot admits while they tried , European WC teams dont want to play them..

In reality, international basketball community distrust chot… they still not trust him since what happened last 2018 brawl between gilas and australia… while teams such as Iran, Jordan and Lebanon who can manage to play against same high caliber teams because they still trust them… and with load management era these days… high caliber teams can’t afford to lose a player playing against low level physical teams… maybe if coach tab or ctc is the coach then maybe they can find atleast one or two high caliber teams to play against gilas in a tune up game

I agree and this is the why exhibition matches against Iran (even if team B) does not make sense at all. Having a tune-up against China does not make sense as well.

Chot tried to invite European teams that qualified in the World Cup. If these World Cup-bound European teams did not make the Philippines their priority, Chot should have invited Austria, Norway, Ireland or any team that played in the EuroBasket pre-qualifiers to play against them. Some European tune-ups of Jordan are those that did not qualify for the World Cup (Portugal, Czech Republic).

Well, gilas is not at that fault why they only manage to face Iran B… it was supposed to play team A.. but Iran has other options to play.. they manage to have a good tune up games vs Georgia and Russia… w/c is better, while Lebanon has manage to choose Abu Dhabi event… chot is not good manage talking to other teams having tune up w/ gilas despite he’s a PR guy… and yes, you are right, Chot should have pick lower rank but tough European teams such as Switzerland, Norway, Kosovo, etc…. I’m sure those teams can give sweat (or can beat) to gilas… he should think that there are 48-50 European teams competing and all of them can manage to beat most of high level Asian teams…

Bro, what is it with you and Jordan? You’ve been riding their dicks since the last qualifiers windows.

Have you forgotten they have both USA and Greece in their group?

Even without Giannis, Greece is still very tough because they outsize Jordan in every position and play the same style.

Of course they they won’t beat US and Greece… but look at next possible jordan matches, these are New Zealand and possible classification matches Mexico and Egypt… that teams can be beaten by Jordan… have you remember that all Asian teams are only targeting best Asian finisher just to play for Olympics… NZL can be beaten by Jordan because they are familiar with them plus with the way they beat Mexico (who I think same level as NZL) then there is a possibility that jordan can upset NZL… gilas has to be careful… the possible track to have a good standing is 3-2 and have a shot in Olympics… I have a posted this before, the only teams have a chance is China and Philippines but I want to correct it, since jordan have good route in classification matches then they have a shot to be in 3-2 standing… Japan doesn’t have a chance since they might be 0-3 in their group stages, thus their chances are only 2-3, same with Lebanon and Iran… that’s why don’t ignore the fact that Jordan has a chance… but I’m sure that NZL will beat Jordan… that’s why bro all of us here should cheer against all Asian teams competing.. An Asian lose means a win for gilas…

This is where I see our future NT is headed. With newer generations becoming taller, we’ll see a plethora of 6’3-6’5 kids who pattern their game after Steph or Harden because they grew up watching those players.

Being the Puerto Rico or Dominican Republic of FIBA Asia isn’t so far-fetched after all.

the next generation has the size and playing position that are on par with the current standard, and i noticed that kids nowadays are way taller than my generation

I know it is not a positive for our national team but I absolutely love what Kai Sotto has done to Choke Reyes. Sotto and his team knows that Gilas needs him and he is our most seasoned Center playing international basketball. The fact that Choke needlessly ran his mouth again thinking he has some leverage in the situation to force Sotto in a corner back fired on him. And all he did was just solidifiy the prevailing opinion of the non brain dead filipino fans have of him as an arrogant outdated coach who has continuously hi jacked the national team program to stroke his ego.

He knows that the SBP has marketed Sotto and Clarkson as the main players of Gilas and him cutting him out would cause an uproar among most fans that the SBP does not want. In my opinion Sotto brings more to the table than a listless Japeth Aguilar.

You know chot already… he always like this just to put his name in the spotlight or in any media platforms… he wants always in the conversation in any gilas related issues… that’s why he’s one of the most annoying personalities today…

We shoud watch italy and serbia game as we know how to dissect italy's defense

Italy beats Serbia by a hairline 1 pt. margin.

Looks like Gilas needs a perfect game to have a slim chance of beating Italy. Anything less from Gilas means certainty of loss.

The only way we’d win against Italy is if we miraculously stop their 3 point shooting. Also expect them to hunt the mismatch. Italy might not be tall up front but they are tall across the roster. Lengthy forwards like Fontecchio, Datome and Procida woukd pose an obvious matchup problem, esp considering the make up of our team.

i hope Junemar is up to the task. We actually have an advantage offensively in the paint, notwithstanding Melli’s NBA pedigree. But on the defensive end, I’m afraid AJ Edu is the only one who could match up decently. Maybe Kai if he puts his mind into it.

Not really optimistic about our chances against Italy, esp with how our prep has panned out.

Good that you removed Iran B. LOL

does anyone know if gilas has a tuneup game after the china tournament before the world cup?

Finally, coachot stopped his tiresome bloviating for a week. Beating italy and dominican republic will require spartan, high-certainty plays.

The coaching team should revisit the china videos. The stupid gilas turnovers and risky passes are preventable. The scoring mentality blackouts likewise must be squeezed out, as these coaching lapses are very deadly against top 20 national teams. Sotto quick inside hammer plays, clarkson perimeter shooting, and abando -- already reliably confident due to kbl championship plays -- or aj high-percentage powerful inside attacks must be deliberately and automatically set the moment a minute scoring drought passes.

The remaining pool candidates are good two-way players. But separate hard, quick rotating, and very tight defense sets and gang rebounding must be practiced, as preventing italy, drc and angola from scoring for two minutes at a time is a must. It is very important also for ALL the bigs to smoothly switch to, or double up, c and pf/sf last-line defense in the shaded lane to prevent easy inside scoring.

Even with these few offensive and defensive risk reduction corrections, the team should be able to win the scrimmages against good teams like montenegro and mexico.

Manalo sana muna ng 5 straight top-level, vital fiba elimination games bago dumakdak mga pba nt coaches. Pakita muna nila na may binatbat sila.

Lebanon and the Philippines have the fewest exhibition games against other national teams while Jordan has the most number of matches with 13. Pretty interesting.

People aren't bothered by the lack of quality of our tune up games? This is also one of the downside of having chot not only that he sucks, no international coaches or basketball federation respect him. What makes he think he could get away with instigating that brawl and get zero repercussion? This team gonna stink so bad. I feel bad for the players already.
