Cramming.. that’s the dilemma we are into..

December 9, 2017, how can we ever forget that day, indeed it’s an early Christmas present to all basketball loving Filipinos when the powerful FIBA Central Board officially announces that the Philippines will be hosting the 2023 edition of the World Cup with Indonesia and Japan as the minor host.

Now fast forward August 8, 2023 as we all know our team is still a work in progress with only 17 days left before the start of the big dance.”Nakakapang hinayang lang talaga”, why its always been this way after the 2014 World Cup were always scampering in our preparation. We don’t need to compare ourselves to the other participating team if they also doing the same thing because they’ve already established their basketball program since the time when their respective players are still playing in the yuth teams therefore chemistry and team culture is not an issue anymore it’s just a matter of plug n’ play thing for them.

The current SBP management doesn’t had that strong leadership command imagine the likes of Carl Tamayo, Justine Baltazar and Kai Sotto are not part of this narrative because of so many issues, excuses etc. etc.
All the while we thought the main reason why Carl begged off from the training camp is because he needs to rest and rehabilitate his injured part because it’s delicate now someone is saying that the dude was already in Japan several weeks or a month ago(?) with his B League team conducting some rigorous training for the upcoming season. My eyes are circling around, whew!! I thought he is rehabilitating his delicate part and putting yourself in rigorous training(agad agad) upon arrival that’s something..anyway end of that story. Kai also had the same delicate injury as well but on a different part of his anatomy. But on Justine Baltazar it’s a different story he ain’t injured be it delicate or severed..he was not called because of so many excuses here and there.

Now JC is here our main guy as an NBA dude had high basketball IQ according to them, chemistry and cohesion may not be an issue..well good to hear for now…goodluck.

Really disappointed that Bolick took Gilas for granted. He's very impressive last 2019 World Cup, and that momentum carried on his PBA career.

I believe he was invited multiple times during the windows but did not show up due to honeymoon with his wife? Those were the rumors. Or maybe he just didn't like that he was underutilized by Chot during the Feb 2022 window when Montalbo got more playing time than him?

Bolick's pg instincts are miles ahead of CJ. Plus his slashing and driving abilities I think are on par. As for his shooting, he's better at that aspect compared to Perez, Kiefer and Scottie.

Scottie and Bolick would have been the best combination for our PG since they both bring something different to the table. Unfortunately I think the pride and the Napoleon syndrome of Chot got in the way, cause why would you not take a final look of Bolick in this camp at the very least?

problem with Bollick is that he signed a contract with the B league...that got the ire of PBA and therefore SBP...so he is out of Gilas
Same thing with Matthew Wright -----ex PBA who jumped ship to Japan B league.
Dont know how Parks was still able to get in Gilas since he is ex PBA who signed to B League....maybe he has strong connection due to his late father.

Me too, I enjoyed watching their games against Senegal because I know that was their main team.

I checked who are the teams that will come here in Manila in the coming weeks. For me, New Zealand, Jordan and Egypt are viable prospects to have some tune-ups against Gilas.

They're good enough too, IMO. Though none of the 3 can simulate Italy, at least our players will be tested on the (legal) physicality aspect of the international game.

The next tune up game still on august 20… 12 days that gilas will be on practice mode… sbp should find a way to find a tune up opponent in that between dates before Montenegro and Mexico game… 2 games still not enough… try to invite low ranked but tough European squads such as Portugal, Albania or even Kosovo… those teams are tough too…. They are still quality teams that unlucky that they are in European zone that is tough zone in all continental zones in fiba…

I haven't seen these NTs and don't plan to, tbh. But as long as they're much better than the Iran Team B our Gilas beat twice, I'll take it.

Korea isnt joininh oqt, robert must be happy as his agam agam are true

Does Robert wants Gilas to play SK in a tuneup game? Imagine the backlash if Korea manages to beat us with Kai and Clarkson.

He able to come back because of his connection with San Miguel(Al Francis) during his Alab days.

Well, they beat gilas w/ clarkson last 2018… so there is nothing new that possibly they can beat gilas again… I knew it already that Korea can’t go to Syria because due to travel ban… in fact Taipei will not go also, since their team A and B will only play on jones cup plus they don’t have embassy in Damascus… I will take that Korea tune up game than nothing… although chot reyes said that gilas will have a tune up game on august 16 vs Ivory Coast… that’s good news indeed… Ivory Coast will be led by Mo Bamba of Philadelphia… another African team that simulate Angola… SBP is surely want that insurance win vs Angola by focus on African team tune up games…

Bro I didnt say anything about Giannis34god, I'm talking about Robert. Yet you replied? So is it confirmed you're Robert? Welcome back bro, we missed you!

Do you have a comprehension problem? I think I can help you. BTW, I am amused with you being confidently $+***d. Hehehe

that's sadik for you, confidently stupid at heart, he even denied before that he is robert thinking he can fool everyone

back on topic i watched the game of jordan and mexico last night, i think we can beat them , they almost play like us but we have a better defense, i want to see the matchup between kai/junemar and Ibarra

Let me guess, the triple guard set-up (Stoll, Cruz, Giron)? The skilled but undersized power forward (Jaimes)? An inside operator bigman (Josh Ibarra)?

Well, that's, indeed, very Gilas. Hehe

Of course can always try to invite teams for tune ups

But reality is Gilas isn't really a priority or attractive team by othebs.to tune up agsisnt , they prioritize other teams , particularly European. ( which makes total.sense ).

Casing point NZ for last tune up before arriving in.Manila is Italy, can't blame them.for choosing Italy , rather than the teams in the same region. Who they regularly play against.

As Chot admits while they tried , European WC teams dont want to play them..

Check your facts first before you comment… you too high on China eh they were doing nothing yet so far!! In terms of preparation among Asian teams, it’s jordan who do great so far, beating Mexico, and almost beat Czech Republic… as if your reading comprehension is great too… peace yoh!!!!

Bro, what is it with you and Jordan? You’ve been riding their dicks since the last qualifiers windows.

Have you forgotten they have both USA and Greece in their group?

Even without Giannis, Greece is still very tough because they outsize Jordan in every position and play the same style.

This is where I see our future NT is headed. With newer generations becoming taller, we’ll see a plethora of 6’3-6’5 kids who pattern their game after Steph or Harden because they grew up watching those players.

Being the Puerto Rico or Dominican Republic of FIBA Asia isn’t so far-fetched after all.

I agree and this is the why exhibition matches against Iran (even if team B) does not make sense at all. Having a tune-up against China does not make sense as well.

Chot tried to invite European teams that qualified in the World Cup. If these World Cup-bound European teams did not make the Philippines their priority, Chot should have invited Austria, Norway, Ireland or any team that played in the EuroBasket pre-qualifiers to play against them. Some European tune-ups of Jordan are those that did not qualify for the World Cup (Portugal, Czech Republic).

tune up game is all about preparing the right players ( your core) and against the right teams ( European / Americas)

if your core is ( Kai, JC , AJ etc) there is little value to be preparing players who won't be in WC or play limited minor roles ( Brownlee, Junmar ,CJ (examples only) and vs not similar WC opponents ( Asian teams)

It used to be the Saudis and the Indonesians in the old Robert account Lol

Who will want to have a tuneup with a host team whose poster boy has so much drama and suspense just weeks before the WC. We are showing the world how f*cked up our program is.
