Do we have a tuneup with Mexico, or any South American team to simulate DR? How about Italy? Do we have a tuneup against a team with good stretch bigs?

Montenegro (w/ nba star nikola vucevic) will play gilas on august 20 (they are same level as Italy) while Mexico plays gilas on august 21 (to simulate DR)…. Although I hope that they can get 3 more tune up opponent to create chemistry between them on the last 3 weeks of preparation before the World Cup…

But on the flip side, having too much tune up games will have effects too.. look what happened to Slovenia, they already lost Vlatinko Cancar due to ACL injury he suffered during the game vs Greece in their tune up games, also remembered Danny Siegle tragedy before 2002 Asian games 2 decades ago… atleast in the World Cup, our players are healthy already to compete… we already worried if Scottie can still make it on time, same as Kai… also most of the players in the pool are having history of suffering injuries in the past such as Edu, junmar, japeth, newsome, and even Ramos and oftana still not yet 100% healthy… too much tune up games will burn out our players… so it has to be balance…

End of it all....chot is just pure verbal diarrhea. He needs Barrios back as his spokeperson

a glimpsed of Italy, and Slowmo finally played his first game with China

Well, that is all part of the gamble bro. Every time your players step in the court to play, may it be just a tune-up game, a pocket tournament or an actual tournament game, there will always be the risk of injury. But no coach will ever complain that he is getting "too many" tune-up games for his team.

As I said before, Philippines can beat Angola… they still not improve since 2019… they have Bruno Fernando but their core that bring Angola to the top of afrobasket in the past decade are gone… their new gen players are not so good as their previous generations… losing to Jordan that we all know that gilas can beat anytime beat Angola by 16 (70-54)…

Well, we also have to consider that when Gilas beat Jordan, Jordan's NP then was Dar Tucker. Now they have Rondale Hollis-Jefferson who I think is better & younger than Tucker. But we also have to consider that when we beat Jordan, we had Kouame as our NP. For the World Cup we'll have Clarkson as our NP who is obviously a far superior player than Kouame.

I think you're right, maganda chance natin vs. Angola.

The crucial things for Gilas is late additions Clarkson & Kai Sotto assimilates with the team & Chot's system.

Gilas has Mexico which will happen in Manila to simulate DR. I don't know what happened to the planned Puerto Rico exhibition game. I hope it will still push through. Wishful thinking but can we have the Bahamas as our tune up opponent?

Montenegro which will also happen in Manila will simulate Italy. However, I think that we also need to invite South Korea. For me, the Koreans are the most similar in Asia to Italy in terms of playing style. We need the game against South Korea to simulate how to defend the perimeter, to intercept passes and to fight screens.

Yeah… atleast 5 games is enough already to avoid worn out and possible injuries… hope that they can invite some teams prior to Mexico and Montenegro games before the World Cup…

Until now no news if Korea will go to Syria for their OQT… maybe they might decline because of travel issues against Syria… Taiwan already begged off since their main squad will play on jones cup… if Korea will not play in OQT, sbp should ask korea for 2 game series games… they badly needed that

That 2 game tune up series vs Senegal is huge because we gauge if they can handle Angola, since Senegal and Angola already familiar each other… actually, Senegal is much stronger than Angola… the latter only lucky that they have better group than Senegal last qualifying windows…

My goodness. Italy scored so easily inside the paint as if it wasn't manned by 7 footers. Good luck to slowpoke Junemar and Kai LOL. Italy's speed and passing negated China's height. Not even a retooled China with import was enough.

Given the way they shoot and our pathetic defense, Gilas will make them the GSW.

With Jordan beating Angola, I say we concentrate all effort on Angola and DR. Italy is a hopeless cause.

Fontechio is really solid. I watched the Eurobasket and was a fan of his play. Also watch some games in the NBA since he is one the Jazz, and he was also solid.

Good of ball shooter with some defensive intagibles for FIBA standard.

I really wish Philippines modeled its game after the Italians, Argetinians, and Spanish. It’s clearly the best way for teams without great star players.

Reason why Argentina beat the US in 2004 and Spain challenged them in 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

I still think that DR still the much tougher opponent for gilas than Italy… actually that win game vs China is not impressive, since they are playing at home and they always have advantage vs Asian teams and only win by 18 pts… they should be better than that… they still felt the absence of gallinari and they don’t have any naturalized player in their pool…

At this point, earning a similar result and scoreline as the one China just had against Italy is all I can wish for. Italy always has Gilas'/RP NT's number and it wasn't always close during the past encounters.

Yup. Even with Tab Baldwin as Gilas coach, we can't keep it close with the Italians. We always lost big vs. Italy. I think its really the size that bothers our players whenever we face Italy & its not like the Italians have lots of 7-footers in their team. Its just that they enjoy significant height advantages in every position, especially in the guard & wing positions. Yung shooting guards natin eh 6-foot-1/6-foot-2, eh yung sa Italy eh 6-foot-7. Yung small forwards natin na 6-5 eh yung sa Italy eh 6-foot-8 or 6-9. Our point guards who are around 5-10 will have to deal with 6-3/6-4 Italian quarterbacks. And they are deadly shooters, good slashers & finishers off the break.

if we will look at the size of our basketball players we are at par with most countries but the position that our players are playing at and their skillset is what made us look small compare to others, and the root of that is the lack of grassroot development, though i seriously believe than in 5-10 years the size , position and skillset of our players can match the standard of other national teams

somewhere, japeth, pogoy and jmf are screaming in terror internally, if the 3 makes the cut for 2023 they will be abused again by Italy

Like someone pointed out, we play like Latin Americans. Only difference is, their players are all built like tanks ala Abueva.
