wow. so paano, if they get beaten twice by Senegal, should we just not expect anything anymore?

Maybe yes… but I think gilas can split their matches ba Senegal… maybe junmar will have another great game against Senegal , just like he did 9 years ago….

how was oftana's shooting? if he can shoot well from 3 they should take him from that facet alone. also in the easl i remember him doing pretty well defensively against the kbl's mvp, but he also did some unnecessary pba fouls

I don't think so. One, he was younger and did not come from a broken leg. Two, many people forget RDO (accidentally or intentionally) head-butted Gorgui Dieng. Dieng was a monster before that. He had to sit out probably because of concussion symptoms. Without Dieng, Senegal's frontline wasn't as intimidating.

Depends on the severity of the loss and how the scoreline would be, i guess. But then again, it's the Gilas Team B so a loss of not more than 10 points and not wire-to-wire won't be that bad.

Watch this video of Bakits. I agree on his criteria on PG.

Yeah dribbling is the most important aspect of the game for a point guard. I couldn't think of a point guard playing in the high level with shaky dribbling skills. Such player isn't going to survive. A point guard with questionable shooting but with decent handkes is much better than a point guard with very shaky handles but with decent shooting. The thing is, if your center & "four" has decent dribbling, that would be a big plus.

For me, a prime Andray Blatche was effective for Gilas mainly becoz for a 6-foot-10 big man, his ball handling is pretty decent. A Dray Blatche with shaky handles would be much less effective for Gilas.

I agree, thats why I really don't know why people keep insisting players who have less skill in dribbling, awareness and other PG skills and only look at height. Thompson has the height and been playing pg ever since college. An Aric del rosario mentored PG similar to Siot, Bal, Dale to name a few.

Let's think of a Jamie Malonzo with dribbling skills of a Dwight Ramos. A Calvin Oftana with a dribbling skills of a Rayray Parks. A Justin Baltazar with a dribbling skills of a Carl Tamayo. I'm pretty sure that all those players I mentioned wud be significantly better versions of what they are right now.

I get it remember gilas 1 battling japan at their homecourt, 14 years from now it didnt change and you wonder they lose on games that matter..

I agree. They can move from one place to another without losing the ball. And everyone can start the offense and drive towards the basket. Which I feel is our strength. I am seeing more and more teams shooting 3pts to a point they shoot more of them than 2pts. We have seen it before with korea and it just not as effective in WC.

Junemar is there to absorb minutes. We can't really give Edu too much minutes.

ideally edu, aguilar, & sotto should split 80 minutes (27 minutes per player) at the 4-5 position, but edu & sotto are not used to heavy minutes and japeth is old. if tamayo was here they;d be able to split it 4-ways

Abando so far struggling against the equally athletic Senegalese guards
