Mike Philipps, Kai Ballungay and Zave Lucero if they finished their college here and play in the PBA, we will have more than enough players to man the 4 in the future.

There are actually a good No. of potential 4's & small forwards with good size in the UAAP right now which includes FIBA eligible players. Aside from what you mentioned, guys like Jonel Policarpio of La Salle (a good small forward potential) as well as UP's Francis Lopez, Chico Briones & Mark Belmonte are good Gilas prospects.

I think the key here is getting those guys integrated into the Gilas senior program ASAP. Huwag na dapat maghintay pa ang SBP ng mga 3 years pa before these guys are integrated into the Gilas program. They should be integrated ASAP. Well, at least guys like Mason Amos, Kevin Quiambao & Francis Lopez have already spent time with the Gilas senior national training pool, so somehow they are already integrated into the program.

I just hope that SBP pushes with Mike Philipps, & Kai Balungay getting FIBA exemptions. Maganda talaga potential ng mga batang yan. Philipps may be just be a role player who will just focus on defense, rebounding & hustle, but in a team loaded with scorers & offensive threats, sometimes its the role players that make the big difference.

There is an on-going pre-qualifiers for the Eurobasket 2025 pala. Why SBP did not arrange a series of exhibition games against these teams?

The teams participating here are as follows:

Croatia
Bulgaria
Romania
Switzerland
Ireland
Norway
Kosovo
Albania
Luxemburg
Slovakia
Denmark
Austria

SBP could have had a series of exhibition games and tune-ups against atleast 3 or 5 of these teams instead of second and third stringers of Estonia, Finland, Lithuania and Ukraine.

To be fair czech republic is playing for pre olympic qualifying tournament this earky august and their team was not so good tgat jordan nt can play toe to toe with them..

are we already planning as if they will be exempted? its an exemption, meaning they'll play as local kung trip ng FIBA secgen. we are getting a lot of favors because we are host. i doubt they'll allow a lot of players to be tagged as locals for the next few years. having said that, do we have players who can be the 4 in the future who wont need any favors from FIBA?

Balti should be our 4 moving forward. At the very least he should be in the pool. He was Tabs starting 4 and played a lot of minutes. If there was no favoritism on Chot and PBAs part he shouldve been in the current pool.

agree. Balti and Tamayo could be our main big wings and we just add whoever comes along as we neat certain games. to be honest, if Kobe had his head screwed right, and not inside.., he would be a good big wing as well. strong enough for most 4 and at 6'6 not that short unless we are infront of the higher rank teams. but because not, Amos and KQuiam would be the alternatives. depending how pre and pablo pans out, they can be considered at 4 or with Lopez and Belmonte at 3. but since this is 2023 WC thread, i am OT already. still, planning ahead should always be done. i understand focus is on next months games but preps, even ifground work, for games after should be considered. not against PBA per se, but we got lots of players and should be able to make a competitive team without PBA players because we dont want to hassle them from their games.

You can notuce the guys when he is realeasing his jumpshot.. that was unorthodox

So china has wang zhelin hiu jinqiu and zhou qi playing well as 5.. and zhao ji wei (not his superstar tandem guo) is thhe chosen one for coach quality( top pg)

potential staring 5

Zhu ki
Hu jinqiu
Slomo
Zhao Rui
zhao Ji wei

And like us.. the bench depth would spell the difference of getting the olympic slot

Seriously this is getting to the point if we will be doing better in 2019 or 2023 . That's the expectations now , just do better than 2019.. too much to expect more.

Don't get me wrong we all support the Philippines, but there is a place to call out lack of preperation and planning.. do not confuse the 2. The SBP leadership is accountable for the latter

In group a, the two teams that will advanced to the second round are italy and Dominican Republic.

Gilas will win against Angola and ends up at 1-2 record..

in securing the lone spot for the olympics, i think china gets it.

We are at a point that Kai may not do well in practice enough that he might not be picked. We are already clunky with 3 centers that are ill fit with each other. If Kai does not mesh on offense he might not get picked if it looks like Edu will be a decent rim protector at this level.

Even before Kai, our spacing will be an issue. Edu will probaby be our best defender but he will be our worst offensive player. He mightve scored against Magnolia but it remains to be seen if he can against Fiba teams. Likely, he will be a spacing killer at 4 so he can only play 5.

So we have 3 centers and two undersized PFs in Malonzo and Ramos. Chot is playing with fire here. He will either play clunky Japeth at 4 or undersized Malonzo or Ramos. He would like to play Ramos at 4 and JC at 3. But I dont think that is sustainable particularly with Ramos recent injury.

It would have been much better if Chot picked Balti in the pool. Balti will be able matchup with the taller PFs better than anybody there.

He doesnt even need to guarantee him a spot. But with Kais inclusion getting bleak Balti would have been a much better choice at 4 than Oftana.

14 man line-up for our exhibition games in China:

C - AJ Edu - 6'11
C - June Mar Fajardo - 6'10
C/F - Japeth Aguilar - 6'9
F - Jamie Malonzo - 6'5
F - Calvin Oftana - 6'5
F/G - Dwight Ramos - 6'4
G/F - Ray Parks - 6'4
G - Jordan Clarkson - 6'4
G/F - Thirdy Ravena - 6'2
G/F - Rhenz Abando - 6'2
G/F - Roger Pogoy - 6'2
G/F - CJ Perez - 6'2
G - Chris Newsome - 6'2
G - Kiefer Ravena - 5'11

Good size from 1, 2, and 3 positions and maybe 5 but severely undersized at the 4 position. Skill is another story, though.

2019 set a low bar but i think the 2023 gilas could go lower with the way things ate unfolding

Jordan Clarkson won’t join the gilas team in China but instead will meet the team in Manila when it returns..

LMAO I like Clarkson but I hope more Filipinos call him out like they do with other athletes who are half like him.

Your team didn’t make the playoffs and just signed a new contract. You have the ability to be like a superstar among Filipinos (he already is) but he is one of the classic examples of Pinoys idolize for having some Filipino blood.

I think he means well, but this is my issue with these NBA athletes man in America. They are entitled and don’t think more than the NBA or their precious cringe cool boy image.

If Clarkson is going ti act like he doesn’t need practice they should’ve just picked the Brownlee guy. Clarkson hasn’t even visited the country outside one time this last year I think.

As per Chot, Clarkson not joining the China training camp, will join Gilas weeks before the World Cup
