Compare to the past irritation of BAP, This is way way better, And how do you say we don't have grassroots? Are you watching how our women's team become one of the rising basketball programs in Asia despite little support from media and our government... Our mens youth team already have 3 WCs in SBP era... In BAP era, we can't even send the team into international competitions...Be thankful that despite shortcomings by SBP, they still trying hard to have grassroots in our basketball program... If you want a dream set up, You should ask the government to do it.. But anyway, Did you saw SONA yesterday? He (BBM) even didn't mentioned what the plans of our sports program in our country....

you can carry on arguing with Dave, i wont get in the way. but i'd like to pick out some things with what you posted:

1. grassroot is the local development of the players. your example is the U16 and U18 Womens team. please remove all the filfor from those teams (they are not developed locally) and honestly tell me if can achieve same result. no medina, yumul, fajardo's. vdj, etc.

2. cant speak for others but yes, SBP gave us a huge boost compared to BAP. but does that mean we shouldn't voice what can be improved? wala na freedom of speech? if we are free to give them praise, why cant we be free to point things that dont align to what we personally believe? guguho ba SBP if some forumers oppose certain things that SBO does\did? is that how we want it to be? on side note of this, aside from BAP being not sa good as SBP, it needs to be considered that a) they don't have same war chest as SBP and b) BAP and PBA never got along. remember, PBA was created so BAP cant use their players.

and lastly 3. NSA is not suppose to be managed by the government. so unless you want someone to be impeached and removed from office (be it corporate or from the government) the government will not head an NSA.

Only claimed youth development/grassroots allocation is vastly in need and allocated peanuts by the main funders of basketball stakeholders ( SBP in itself does not fund. Programs or limited ) in.comparrison to stakeholders funding ot just 1 PBA team.
Verififiable by the reported spend , ( batng gilas cosches and players get allowances and for a short period ( 3 weeks ). While the budget spend on 1 PBA team alone is full time highly paid staff (no one works for youth teams or grassroots on a full time basis , just volunteer sideline ) and the salaries and expenses on.players are many many times more than youth.

I do not need to tell you that many Fil foreigners and players from the provinces DON'T HAVE the money to travel to Manila for mere tryouts and a place to stay while in Manila, even if already selected into the pool. Talk about wrong priorities, the life blood of our future are littierally starving and are in grave need.. all.of this is verified and so is the spend on 12 PBA teams (declared.amoint )

Any links to your info.

Simple things..

As far as I know grassroot development are mandatory on all NSA that must be inculcated in all by-laws of every National Federation. Now as for SBP we’ve never heard, read not seen any comprehensive basketball development program on a consistent year round or year to year basis, talent identification, train to become an international level guy moving forward I haven’t seen that. The only stuff I’ve known is that they are conducting a few hours basic training in some selected barangays, put a cameraman, interviewed someone who runs that camp and that’s it. They now move to another area and repeat the same procedure. I called it promotion and marketing for a certain brand and personalities not grassroot development.
All I’ve seen is that, when there is an upcoming FIBA youth tournament that’s when the time the coaching staff establish a training camp and after the tournament ended it now your way and my way thing hence there is no continuity its always been that way.

How I wush we could have a grassroot development sponsored by the SBP on a consistent year to year basis. Put all identified talents in a camp to train and develop all the CORE stuff to be international ready whenever theirs an upcoming FIBA youth tournament, the deeper the pool the better because those basketball stakeholders must also be mindful that they are dealing with school kids and the program should not be in conflict with their schooling. Additionally, that propose Training Camp for kids must be run by an international licensed Skills coach. That is why I fully supported to the new school year starting from the first week of Aug and ends on the first week of July the following year because that’s a perfect setup especially to our student-athlete considering that June to September are FIBA months.
Those UAAP,NCAA,NCRAA among others are all active members of the SBP and they’ve formed an accord, a gentleman’s agreement during the time when the National Federation are still in the infancy that they will support the basketball development of the country moving forward.

Now as for our newest(?) member of the forum, well we all had our own political upbringing and that’s your choice but posting here that the current administration are not cool with the Philippine sports as whole is a blatant lie. If you think that 2 billion + PHP budget of the PSC for 2023 season doesn’t make sense to you then that’s your call because as far as I know theirs a propose bigger budget allocated for Philippine sports next year considering its an Olympic year and that’s already included in the propose 2024 budget being one of the priority bills of the newly opened 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Regular Session of the 19[SUP]th[/SUP](?) congress.
I’ve watched the SONA yesterday and the President admits that his SONA is bitin na bitin because as much as he wants to talk more on many issues and status he only had a limited time for that and it ain’t cool and healthy talking in a pressured packed environment for 2 to 4 hours non-stop or even more that would be a disaster not only to the guy but also to the audiences and televiewers and we don’t want to end up in a slumber/dreamland that is why in the coming days his current cabinet members will do some more talking either in the usual platform like Malacanang Press Corp., among others.

USA select team looks impressive

The select team is actually more experienced in FIBA competitions than their main team. Keegan Murray would have also been a great addition, he’s a great shooter.

Personally, I don’t considered that European trip a big step towards our preparation for the coming WC 2023, sorry but playing against kids and a selection team composed of 8 guys it doesn’t make sense to me. Our team only gained bread crumbs on that really.

I think that propose China friendlies and a few National teams like Montenegro and Mexico does makes sense. Oh well, it is almost 5 weeks from now and we haven’t had our trump cards yet JC and KZS in the sweat shop. Goodluck for that.

Clarkson in, Brownlee to the Asiad

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) thanked the long-time Barangay Ginebra import for spending a lot of time practicing and training with Gilas for the past five weeks as it prepares for it's World Cup campaign next month.

But with Jordan Clarkson finally coming to terms with SBP to play for Gilas in the global showcase, Brownlee will have to take the backseat as basketball's biggest event comes back to Manila after 45 years.

During the pep rally held for both the men and women's national teams on Tuesday, coach Chot Reyes announced the 35-year-Brownlee will be the one to play for Gilas in the Asiad.

they're already more accomplished than the azkals and if they win another one and/or go through the next round they'd accomplish far more than gilas as well

the current one yes, but historically its still the Philippines men's national basketball team is still the most accomplished asian team due to the podium finish in 1954, so Filipinas will face the fist woman Ballon D' Or winner, that is the beauty of football an underdog team has a more fighting chance to win than an underdog in basketball, just last fifa world cup asian teams defeated some of the football powerhouses in the world, KSA - Argentina, Japan - Spain and Germany and South Korea - Portugal

Yeah, men! Let's go!

Most enjoyable and scariest game I've seen. Man, those three points felt good.

the feeling is so surreal supporting my own country in a football world cup, i know it's a long shot for our men's team that is why i only bandwagon with Portugal being a CR7 fan
