Sorry for misinterpreting. You were talking about teams, not individual players, gets.

I actually agree on the score that in general, capable pros are better equipped for this stage than amateurs. This Gilas team is better than any collegiate team, talent-wise. And all of these guys are pros.

im all in for a mix composition of our lineup, i don't know if its only lip service but Chot said after the world cup for sea games and other lower competitions it will be the younger guys who will play, that is why in the national team thread i mentioned about NCC and how it became successful, yes that time basketball is totally different and it was handled by a dictator's crony but if it will be emulated today a big fund will be needed as the competition for the services of the young good players is stiff

what happened to the planned Gilas trip to the US ? while watching the summer league i'm thinking if how the national team will fare against the summer league team or even against gleague and division 1 teams, i think these teams will be the best tune up partner to prepare for dominican republic and angola, gilas with clarkson and kai against these teams will be interesting

but what is Estonia actually preparing for ( they're not in the WC , and if they have qualficiation games it's more than 3 months away

Bro, I think its just common for national teams (even cadet nat'l. teams) to play tune-up games or pocket tournaments during off-season of professional basketball leagues (which is during the months of July, August, September) even if malayo pa naman yung next FIBA tournament na paglalaruan nila. Isn't teams like China, Japan, Korea, Iran are doing that yearly?

I remember that when Noli Eala was PBA Commissioner during the mid-2000's, when he changed the PBA calendar so as to synchronize it with the FIBA calendar, our national pool made up of the best players in tge PBA, played in tune-up games, & other international tournaments (like the Brunei Cup & Jones Cuo) during the PBA off-season. This even if there was no up coming FIBA tournament or other international tournaments.

40 teams playing in Pre OQT next month... this is more harder going to Olympics, since only winners of each groups will advance....

https://www.fiba.basketball/news/li...e-qualifying-tournaments-confirmed-after-draw

In Asia, Syria will reportedly host Pre OQT event next month... However, Korea and Taiwan might beg off due to unstable condition inside Syria... Although they host previous qualifier games last year w/o any conflict... If Korea allowed to come to Syria next month, they will be overwhelming favorites.. If not, It will be free for all especially for KSA, Syria, Bahrain and Kazakhstan...

Lagos, Nigeria will host FIBA Pre OQT in Africa... Senegal, Tunisia and Nigeria will fight for a lone slot for Main OQT for Africa next month

In Americas, Buenos Aries will host Pre OQT in Americas zone... Argentina is easy favorites here...

In Europe, Turkey, Estonia and Poland will host Pre Olympic qualifier there... big names such as Turkey, Croatia, Czech Republic and Poland will fight for 2 spots for main OQT next year...

Where is the source that says Korea and Taiwan might beg off?

All these talk about the Olympics is nothing different from the Kai NBA talk.

You guys seriously think we will qualify for the Olympics with Choke Reyes leading the team? LOL

Even if Kouame and JC will be considered locals, I doubt Choke will be able to bring us there.

They might... They are hesitating to go Syria, Since you know the situation of Syria... Although they host some qualifier matches but the security is not yet OK there... I dunno why FIBA picks Syria as host? In those 8 countries no one is really want to host it? Syria is one of the 8 countries under Ban by Korean government to go there (Others are Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, Ukraine and Sudan)... Of course it will consult to their foreign ministry if they will be allowed to go (i think it's not)....

Chances are high... Other than Philippines, It's China who has chance... Lebanon, Jordan and Japan (especially w/o Hachimura) are in Group of Death group, While Iran is weaker now... So obviously PHL and CHN are favorites there... Look at their opponents (and their possible Classification opponents):

PHL - ITA , DR, ANG, CHN , SSD or PUR

CHN - SRB , PUR , SSD , ANG , PHL

JOR - USA, GRE, NZL , EGY , MEX

JPN - AUS , FIN , GER , CPV , VEN or GEO

IRI - ESP , BRA , CIV , LIB , LAT

LIB - FRA , CAN , LAT , IRI , CIV

(Bold letters are possible classification round matches)

I know you are hater (Sounds it, Also a Kai Sotto Hater... How toxic you are), But if you see the chances, They have higher chances, alongside China to get Olympic spot in Asia.... Other Asian teams want to their situation to be real here....

I heard that Abu Dhabi organizers invites Philippines to be part of Abu Dhabi festival that includes USA, Greece, Mexico and Eygpt and Germany but SBP begged off because they were busy in Lithuania training, Instead Abu Dhabi organizers pick Lebanon as alternate... Wasted opportunity for Philippines, since they will face Egypt and Mexico, who were familiar to Angola and DR's system... Abu Dhabi wants Philippines first because of huge Filipino community in Abu Dhabi...

Sorry Greenarcher the comparison is not actually similar, here is why?

In the case of Gilas it is determined simply by a 1 week 5 game tournament, upsets can happen, it is not a comparison of talent (the collective resume of each member of the team, if it was then certainly yes Gilas has no chance like Kai.

In Kai's case nope contrary to thought Kai's chances are not determined by the 5 summer league games where he can get Hot , but his collective body of work for the last 2 years in NBL/b league (75 game sample size). , Kai's chance is next June , but only after littierally being a MVP like candidate in the B league (body of work)

now since this is the WC thread to stay on topic , there chance dont look good , mainly becasue of their body of work for the last 2 years , the core players have almost zero time.together !

If Iran strength today is like 2013 version, I will pick them to qualify as Asian representative to Olympics next year... Brazil and CIV is much lighter opponent than Angola, DR, PR and SSD... But if we analyze their performance last qualifiers, they are not looking good... But let's see if they will pull some surprises... China still a mystery for me.. I don't think they can beat SSD and PR... those teams are bad match up for China actually... Their playstyle is not compatible against athletic teams of SSD and PR... That's why even PHL's preparation is not good, I still like their chances because they will play at home, PHL is good at playing home plus upgraded talents than 2019 roster... If Japan was in PHL or CHN's group then they will be easily pick as favorites there.. But not w/ Group E alongside Australia, Germany and Finland w/o their best player Hachimira....

Will a sports event not consider as an official business? It can be an official business for the Korean Basketball Association.

I dunno why they don't want to host it... I understand that Basketball in Korea sounds like 4th or 5th most popular sport, But still marketable for them to host this one... Syria's 2nd most popular sport is basketball and they record 12K attendance in their qualifier games last 3rd window last year, maybe the reason FIBA picks them as host... FIBA doesn't care if they pick a country that situation are still unstable, As long as they get money from it... If not Korea can host then Taiwan should get that hosting duties for Pre - OQT, Basketball in Taiwan is 2nd most popular there and followers there are big (I found that Jones Cup will be held on same date, August 12 - 20, the reason Taiwan doesn't take hosting duties)... If FIBA still continue to pick Syria as host for Pre -OQT for Asian slot, chances of Korea and Taiwan fielding a team are low, Since Syria is one of the countries that prohibited by their government to go there unless it's very important like military missions or humanitarian missions under their government....

see they dont want the team to be over exposed..

this tournament will be held one week before the actual tournament as i see ads on facebook about the games in abu dhabi on august 18, i think its not wise as a host that the national team be away from home if its the 2027 world cup in which will be held in qatar and there is pocket tournament in middle east im all for it for the players to acclimatize themselves with the environment, sbp should organize a pocket tournament here in manila like what they did during the Olympics qualifiers in 2016

Remember the brasyrians?, Despite their situation still somehow a rich country..

To be fair chance s with tab in the helm and chot in the helm is the same lol.. what were missing is tab palying it right and be good long term..

i maybe a minority here but I really prefer tab in building the team but once theyre ready..chot will inherit it and supplant ddo concepts as the basic foundation tab taught will be used during the teams "downtime".. as chots team has tendency to start hot and have cold dry spells that you think that chot isnt adjusting to other teams counter adjusments..

But this team chot inherited isnt really cooked yet..

what did CCR inherit? Ravenas and Ramos only. Kai and Carl barely plays for him. everyone else, including Abando, didnt really play for CTB. thats my qualm when they removed CTB. I didnt really care who replaced him, but some posters (including me) already predicted that we wont be using the CTB's team. and that is mostly true. we are not doing what CTB built which is a core of players who you can just add with whoever you want or put whoever coach you want (ie the team Coach Nenad used vs South Korea\New Zealand and CRR during the 2021 SEA games)
