The one on the video and that I'm referring to is Michael Philips. But no I don't think he is good enough to replace a hobbled Kouame as NP at this point. Kouame maybe currently slower but he is still taller, longer, a better post defender and generally more skilled. Mike's lack of offense beyond dunks and putbacks was exposed by the Cambodia team. Ironically the least heralded BGR, turned out to be our most important big for that tourney.

I would like for SBP to process Mike's exemption request. But I don't think it is helpful overall for him to be in the WC pool where he will only be 4th back-up NP after JC, Brownlee and Kouame. As a practice player, he will be a good opponent. But I think he will be too fast for our pool bigs. They might only injure themselves running after him. I think the upcoming tuneups in Estonia will be a better test if our current bigs will be enough against good international competition.

BGR is actually the player we want Tamayo to become, esp Carl already possessing that toughness. BGR is still "young" good for at least a 4-year Gilas run. So hopefully he gets exempted along with Mike, Koon and Balunggay

The PBA says that they'll lend more players to the Gilas pool.

https://sports.inquirer.net/515112/...it-will-lend-more-players-to-national-program

At this point, do we really need more PBA players? It seems that almost all the useful PBA players in Japeth, Scottie, Newsome, Perez, Malonzo, Brownlee, and Oftana are in the pool. Marcio's position is too loaded, so he's honestly out. Almazan, Arana, and Troy are the best the PBA could come up with at the bigman position, the one most in need. Sorry, I'd rather take Gagate, Pablo, Balti, and Mason over the PBA bigs, given the PBA bigs' lack of usefulness at the 4 and 5 spots. Bolick and RJ too over any PBA PG not named Scottie.

The help Gilas needs is outside the PBA, whether amateur or overseas, at this point.

Hopefully the estonia trip will expose our bigs and be able t0 consider replacements by july, we dont need 6'10 and 6'9 centers if they cnat keep in step.. if theres a tall wing who can somehow finish the rim (BGR and Phillips) go on it.. the tough guy big will come later or just do it by committee..

I gave trying to make sense of it all. We all know they'll just put PBA players in there and not even invite players they should invite. It's probably going to be the usual proven sucky players

Unfortunately, all of their preparation matches are no live-streaming or any videos, tv links, etc… even the previous games between Estonia, Latvia and Finland have no any videos provided by host, maybe to not scout their plays…

So basically SEA Games 2019 but with Chot. Agreed. Only big difference is much better opposition. I wanna be proven wrong, but how everything turned out since the SBP practically sabotaged Tab's team doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

that’s why instituting a long term system/program is important. Euro and Americas team that has a number of nba players (luka, giannis, jokic, sabonis) who were part of their respective nteams as early as 14-15 yrs old, same with their other teammates, thus chemistry, familiarity, gameplan were already part of their muscle memory/brains and a 1 month training camp will suffice

meanwhile the Philippines seems to always reset its program every 2 yrs, no continuity, no long term system, no chemistry and always cramming

CHOT REYES is our continuity and long-term plan

Just to repeat (NZL 6 preperation games

Japan in Japan twice

In Germany - Canada then either Germany or China

In China - China then Italy.

(if NZ is competitive vs an NBA loaded Canada, i think NZ may be decrnt vs US in 1st game , will see)

BTW in 2019 NZ beat Italy in last tune up gsme a week before the WC

A perimeter defensive 5 of ili, LeAfa , Te Rangi , Delaney, Waardenberg with all 5 csn shoot and step out in perimeter is dangerous.

Sabonis filipino fans are numbered to be around 120 and it's a reach already..

Oowwwssss? But anyway whatever who will play for Lithuania for sure they will bring huge followers there in Manila... You know how passionate Lithuanians are into basketball... Philippines, China, Lebanon, Estonia and Lithuania are handful of countries that basketball is their no.1 sport and have always supporters whatever they go...
