According to Quinito Henson, This is PHL's set of tune up games before WC:

Euro trip:

Finland
Latvia
Estonia
Lithuania U21

China trip:

Iran
Lebanon
Senegal

And also a tune up game vs Puerto Rico before the WC SETS...

Also disappointing that they scrap a possible tune up game vs Greece, Although i understand since they are not available on Aug. 23, since they want to recover for that 2 month long training...

Oh those are good tune-up games for us. Those European countries are really tough opponents. Unfortunately Clarkson & Kai won't be there. I think we can beat Lithuania U-21, Estonia (senior) & Finland (senior) with Clarkson & Kai in tow.

It’s still possible.

Just don’t expect the same level of intensity against higher ranked teams or podium finishes.

Expect the SMC group to be more aggressive with their “exceptions” push.

If ever they will handle the new management and be aggressive on lobbying some exception, I hope they could somehow sponsor those young FSA’s that I’ve mentioned before instead of JB which is really a comedy move on the part of Panlilio and Vargas.

Due to having their own league Italian basketball have its own brand like Spain, they play with flair like Americans..imagine nicco mannion is us bred..

And yeah dissapointing to the eyes of many, I get the pount we dont play in games where we do potential picture taking experience with nba idols.. and we dont use our adrenaline game also in agame that doesnt count..

One of the best things for Gilas I see with the current FIBA format for one complete Olympic cycle is that high-profile world and continental-level tournaments are now a yearly thing. Being a yearly thing = more exposure to high-level international competition = better for Philippine basketball in the long run, win or lose.

International tournaments these days are marketable now… even newcomers and low ranked teams such as Mongolia, Indonesia, Estonia, etc… have their fan bases in their hometown… the main reason here is money they profit by having more international games… they copy how FIFA run their schedules and aside from it works, the money is very huge in every game of national teams.. and yes, it will benefit in each country, that’s why Indonesia is not afraid now facing the Philippines today… because they now facing teams who are same level or better than the Philippines… Indonesia are also taking part of Pre-OQT and even they lose there, the experience they will get is very valuable especially in the future tournaments…

Well, finland and Latvia will play there w/o their nba players too before the allowed 28 day agreement between nba and fiba… so gilas will face finland w/o Markannen and Latvia w/o porzingis and Bertans… still strong opponents even w/o nba players… you see most of tune up matches held by all participating countries started late July because that is the time nba players are there already…

This is what I'm worried about the most, when the day comes that INA would no longer fear Gilas and instead would look at us as just mere tune-up (and regularly beat us) partners for their own high-level match ups against the FIBA's top 30 NTs. It would not exactly be about the former's ascent and potential leap frogging but would be more on the latter's stagnation.

meanwhile Angola is training for almost a month now. Whilst us is just starting. Albeit they are still waiting for their NBA player Bruno.

There are some omissions notably South Florida’s perimeter defensive stopper 6”4” Selton Miguel and veterans Papa Ngulo and Yanick Moreira. Players to watch for are their NBA player Bruno Fernando; domestic stars Lukeny and spitfire Dundao; Bango who plays in Germany’s BBL; Antonio Monteiro playing for Sporting, Portugal; and Kansas pivotman Silvio De Sousa who will playing in French league next season…

preparation wise, Angola is ahead of Gilas. Their team was named and started practicing almost a month now…

That's FIBA's vision... Every country will have their national teams to compete even small countries, Check at Cape Verde and South Sudan, Both of them replaced traditional powerhouses such as Nigeria, Tunisia and Senegal as basketball kings in Africa, We have to embrace that changes... China is no longer kings of Asian basketball, Spain is ranked higher than USA and Argentina didn't qualified for FIBA WC this year... PHL has to be ready and treat every team seriously... BTW, PHL is still better than Indonesia, even Indons knows that... That's why Indons looking at PHL as their barometer in their basketball program... They copy Gilas 1 set up before by having their own developmental program Indonesia Patriots playing in their PRO league (IBL), All of them are below 23 of age and playing against PRO teams w/ multiple imports... Although most of them are losses but still a Learning experience for them...

Iran still bring their best big man Haddadi in their preliminary roster... So Don't overlook Iran, they might steal the Asian Olympic slot if they were ignored... I will give them advantage vs Ivory Coast and they might possible upset Brazil (DR w/ KAT is more tougher than Brazil)... And they already know how to keep up w/ Spain... Last 2019, Spain only won by 8 vs Iran... Yes, Spain might not take Iran seriously, But remember, every point counts... Quotient system is important, If Iran able to lose to Spain by fewer points, It is already a moral victory to them... So losing a few points vs Italy and DR is important....

NZ Abercrombie and Loe have announced their FiBA retirement. The latter doesn't matter anyway.
hopefully it opens the door for young Flynn Cameron and Gold to crack the lineup..

Tall Blacks locks
1 Ili, Le'Afa
2 Webster bros
3 Flynn and Te Rangi
4. Delaney and Waardenberg
5 Fotu and Wetzell

Oh Webster brothers still playing.

Anyway as for Gilas.

At our best, how high is our chance to upset or beat

Italy, Dom Rep, and Angola?

Hopefully, we can advanced to second round.

It's more dependent on how prepared and players who show up from our group opponents, if they send their best chances are low,
havng said that we have to look at scenario of playing China and south sudan in consolation round to make Olympics ( the goal) , we cant looking past those 2 teams, in fact we should be preparing expecting to meet the two

Cause Tai Webster and Fotu played in 2014 WC , many think they are old z actually they are just 28 yrs old and 29 yrs old respectively. Even Adams who was drafted in 2012 is under 30 yrs old.
it just gives you an idea at how young other national team players aee when they 1st represent meanwhile in Philippines 33 year old Newsome is a rookie FiBA player LOL
