C,mon, let's not be to harsh to SBP regarding the Philippine Arena.. that is an arena to be proud of.. who would have thought that U@ can finally stage a concert here, thanks to Philippine Arena which is their requirement, among multiple concerts as well.. that Arena has lifted us and gave us lots of opportunities..

It is just unfortunate that transportation and traffic is still and will be a problem in the Philippines.. this is not the fault of SBP.. guys, wag naman sisihin lahat sa SBP (well most for me masisisi talaga SBP).. but the Philippine Arena is a sight to behold and a structure to be proud of...

talagang madami lang talaga tao at sasakyan within the Metro that really causes this traffic. what more with a lot of foreign delegates..

and the pandemic really fucked up the preparation.. the world stopped, and funds depleted..

buti na lang talaga we have the MOA Arena which is modern enough..

I think we ought to remember that the Philippine Arena was built by the Iglesia ni Cristo, not the SBP. The issue though is the logistics, as some pointed out. Not many accommodations nearby.

Seven slots like in 2019. Depending on Qatar’s performance, FIBA might give them the Indonesia treatment and require additional things like a second round qualification during the 2027 FIBA WC Qualifiers.

This is absolutely stupid. It’s obvious FIBA chose them because of money. If Qatar didn’t have strong footballing traditions, they most certainly don’t have one for basketball.

As someone who lives in America, I was hoping the event would take place here. Idiots. Asia to host the tournament for the third time in a row.

Fiba should not give direct spot to Qatar, their current ranking is 89… Indonesia are better than them… they will be demolish by strong basketball nations… actually I already see them hosting the World Cup… but I see is in 2031… Middle East already have interest in basketball nowadays… Abu Dhabi hosted nba pre season games last year and it was success… they will also again host another nba pre season games this year and it will conduct team USA games against Greece and Germany before 2023 fiba World Cup… that’s why I already see this coming, but too much early that I imagine…. Qatar’s current basketball team sucks… even Palestine are better than them… how can Qatar manage to build their team in 4 years time? Indonesia can’t manage it before even they hiring multiple naturalized players… unless hagop rule scrap and Qatar can buy multiple players to strengthen their line up

Then forget that Philippine arena even for gilas games… change some locations to other locations such as cebu or Davao (the arena built there already finish)… gilas fans are not just located only in Manila… how from the south or far north can watch the games if the venue is too far… china’s version last 2019 have some issues too but they distributed the location venues in 8 cities…. Sbp should do the same

I would agree to this.. eye opener that the Philippine Arena is a main attraction in the Philippines so the nearby areas in Bulacan should now be developed..

But I think the Semis and Finals should still be held there.. I agree quarterfinals, knockout stages I think that is a stretch.. too many games and logistics.. but Semis and Finals I think is doable..

I believe what they did during the final window held in the Philippine Arena is they hired a lot of buses to transport fans to the venue.. and those days were a weekend and a weekday which gave them a good idea of the traffic and logistics situation.. and they felt it was hopeless at that point.. and ultimately pulled the plug..

I don't like Gilas' odds in the next qualifying cycle

I already have concerns for the 2025 Asia Cup Qualifiers. Will the PBA even cooperate this time around considering Ginebra, TNT, and SMB comprise a bulk of our roster?

If our program doesn't improve the way Japan, SoKor, Lebanon, and maybe China have over the past few years, there's a big chance that we will miss the 2027 WC.

But I think there are 8 spots, similar to the China WC. So, there's a 5th spot to be fought over.

Yeah, 8 spots. Made an error.

Qualifying is still hard given the state of our program and the possible SMC takeover.

I'm expecting Guam, Mongolia, and Qatar to shock the **** out of Gilas in the next cycle.

I've always wanted to see how a full-strength Guam with all of their American-born players (probably similar to Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico) would do if they played a half-baked Gilas (like the SEA Games squad). Mongolia and Qatar are using the same players in 3x3 at FIBA-sanctioned events and are probably a Baldwin-like coach and a solid naturalized player away from being better than Indonesia.

Trickle down economics didnt work in the predominantly agricultural area of the bocaue-sta maria-marilao-meycauayan area. There has been rumors that INC has been sinking too much money in the Ciudad de Victoria and any moment SM Prime Holdings will take over the area.

We/SBP were able to hurdle the windows since its only a 2 day event, the final rds of the world cup is a week long/ 2 weeks max event (including the group stages). And as a Bulakenyo, I could attest that traffic in NLEX is much worse on a Saturday (no number scheme and no truck bans)

None of them has that capabilities yet to surprise big basketball nations so far..... All of them have troubles qualifying even at FIBA Asia qualifiers....

I'll pass, 2024 and 2028 Olympics na lang, I think the prestige of the OLYMPICS compared to WC will further widen . And WC will be know pang mass participation (more teams ), but lower level ( stars skipping WC)

I don't think so.... Qatar will not try to host this event if this is not worth of a gamble... Maybe they will "bribe" those basketball superstars such as Wemby, Doncic, Giannis, etc... to join via oil money to participate... FIBA/NBA already invading Middle east market and wanted to make the most of it... The NBA pre season games in Abu Dhabi was successful last year and it will held again this year led by Doncic's Dallas, also they will hold Team USA's tune up matches this year before the FIBA WC in Manila.... You didn't know what is behind of their moves... Qatar wants to be the "strongest" power in terms of sporting events in the world in this generation... And FIBA Basketball WC are one of their plans to their emerging superpower in hosting sporting events...

Qatar's 4 stadiums that will likely use for 2027 FIBA WC

https://twitter.com/i/status/1651916998656286720

Aspire Dome - 8000 seats

Duhail Sports Hall - 8000 seats

Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena - 8600 seats

Lusail Multi purpose Hall - 16300 seats (likely will held the playoff to final round of the tournament)

Time travel from hotel to arena - 20 minutes only...

They got money. Pretty sure they’ll build a new stadium within four years.

No way FIBA would allow those venues. Not great for profits.

They will just only expand seating capacity.. And that's it... Maybe atleast 12 - 15k capacity for every arena... The Lusail arena is already OK in terms of seating capacity.... Rather to create another arena...

Maybe some MODS here to create a new thread for 2027 version of FIBA WC.... This 2027 event is separated to current one...

Favorable draw as philippines faces 2 beatable teams and 1 strong team to qualify in the second round.

That's why I said "in the next cycle". We're not yet in November. If Gilas goes back to the drawing board after the World Cup, those three teams have at least an 18-month headstart on us. What is Chot (or whoever is next) going to do? 27 for 27? A team of 24-year olds (or younger) is not beating those up-and-coming teams. All of them are at the same level as Indonesia now and will get better.

Guam didn't have their big guns against Chinese Taipei in the last FIBA Asia Cup qualifers, they had some of them for the 2025 pre-qualifiers and had me convinced they're beating Gilas on a bad day. They're obviously bigger than Southeast Asians as their basically Chammoro natives with Filipino immigrant and American solider blood. If Baldwin's boys had a hard time matching up against the Dominican Republic, Guam is built the same.

The one team they had problems with was Mongolia because they get players from the same pool whether its 3x3, 5 on 5, Asian Games, FIBA, and their pro league is a copy-paste of the B.League. They play basketball the right way, if they get slots in the EASL... all they need are two imports who played with them for a season and they're beating PBA teams.

Qatar traditionally got the best available African-born players to change passports, recently they're even getting Eastern Europeans younger than 16... and they'll all be at that age when they're ready to play for both the next FIBA Asia Cup and World Cup.

Your team have Kai sotto anyway, plus a good naturalized player and AJ Edu… good for future foundation of your national team… Kai might be the best Asian big man in next 5 years, and whoever have a very skilled big man in Asian scene means his team will be also competitive too… Gilas w/ Kai have a good record so far in Asian competition… when Kai enters with gilas senior team in 2021, their record is 6-1 (I didn’t count 2021 OQT since that is a world level competition)… w/ Kai, Gilas is a top 3-5 team in asia…
