You're right. Actually OA most posters here in IBN, as if they can do any better. Too dramatic. Sometimes I wonder if the posters here are teenagers. At the end of the day it's just basketball. Yes we love it. No it doesn't need any sort of political intervention. Yes I'm glad we won't be sending the cadet team.

You're not OA when you have been posting or lurking in IBN for more than a decade already, like during or before the Gilas 1 days.

Im worried that the rumored pool only has 1 good shooter in Oftana. To be fair, outside the PBA we only have Heading and of course Clarkson as sharpshooters.

no idea if there is any value added by Barrios' appointment as SBP spokesperson

for fans probably not. but for the media peeps, they now have a point person to talk with with regards to anything SBP. currently media peeps just randomly reachout to Al, CCR, and whoever says yes for an interview. Having a spokesperson means official statements need\should come from Sonny Barrios and anything coming from anyone else is technically a personal opinion. again fans wont see it like that most likely.

Yes. They should have included Bolick who's a decent play maker and can get hot from 3

legit question, how can we say one is a cadet team as oppose to a non-cadet?

Non-pro is cadet? but in Europe, cadet teams are usually the U-23 team. Maybe. I dunno.

usually cadets are the select team more likely reserve players if somehow one of the players in team a got injured, the 2017 sea games team led by Kiefer and Ray were mostly composed of "cadets" garvo lanete is a gilas cadet legend

Remember, PBA (not SBP) is going to run this shit show, so 1 BLeague'r is one too many already, but Chot as stupid as he is, cannot pass up what Dwight can bring to the table. Its a tough choice between Ramos and Parks, but will choose Ramos eventually.

Going with my the 9:1:1:1 ratio, its going to be like this:

PBA:
Iskati
CJ
Aguilar
JMF
Oftana
Malonzo
Newsome
Troy
Pogoy

NBA:
JC

NBL:
Kai

BLeague:
Dwight

Somehow the PBA PR machine will concoct stories about Balti, Tamayo, AJ and the KBL boys not being available and/or are injured

THERE is so much room for everyone next year....Asia Games will happen 2 weeks after Fiba World Cup....So if SBP is smart about it, those whonwont make the World Cup Team will play for Asian Games , maybe with 2 to 3 doing double duties(Sotto, Edu and if permitted Clarkson). With the SMC MVP group alliance , there will be some players who would be given concessions and are shooins(MVP group: Ravena bros, Ramos and from SMC: PBA MVPs Fajardo and Thompson, Aguilar and Perez)

FIBA World CUP

C:Sotto, Fajardo
PF: Edu, Aguilar Tamayo
SF: Malonzo, Parks
SG: Ramos, Ravena T
PG: Clarkson, Ravena K Thompson

Asian Games 2023
C: Kuoame/ Bigman NP, Slaughter
PF:Baltazar, Tautuaa, Sangalang
SF:Oftana ,Adams
SG: Newsome Gray, Munzon
PG: Mikey Williams, Bollick

Yes you are right. I did my research too and almost in every sport in Europe, the cadet age ranges from 14 to 19 years old depending on the sport. In fact in this link, cadet age is 14-to-15. Europeans will laugh at us when we coin the term "cadet" to refer to our 23+ year old college players ;)

A good source on condition of anonymity told me SBP are pushing that Jalen green will be the naturalized player for the 2023 world cup.

Wow. That would leave JC as a.......bystander?

I think they are still moving heaven and earth to re-consider JC as a local until the last minute because MVP are on-hand for this..as for JG, SBP has a good rapport with the management of Team USA.

thanks to all who answered. i asked this question last year and the answer seems to be vague when it comes to our national team. i agree that there seems to be an age range to be called a cadet. BUT, despite the age, if a young player joins the senior team or represents the country in a major tournament they graduate from being called a cadet. examples would be Rubio and Doncic. Both join the senior teams early in their lives and was never called a cadet afterwards. but in the Philippines, somehow, if you've never been in the PBA, you are a cadet. the whole team of CTB is a cadet. the team CCR took in SEA games was TNT players with cadets. i dont know what they call the team brought in Asia Cup, but im pretty sure some fans wil call them cadets still. Dwight, Thirdy, Tamayo to name a few all played for major tournaments. Dwight and Thirdy are pros in another country. yet they are still cadets. i dont care much about labels, but i am curious when their hard work to play for flag will be awarded respect to be called more than a cadet.

That's for longer term goal I guess. We have to remember that Clarkson is now 30 yrs old. In 5 or 6 yrs time, Clarkson won't be that efficient as a NP for Gilas. Jalen Green on the other hand is only around 20 or 21. Imagine the years that Jalen Green would be serviceable as Gilas NP if this plan pushes thru, although we are aware that Jalen has already represented team US in a FIBA youth tournament.

Lest we forget, Jalen Green already was capped by USAB and had led them in the U19 Worlds gold. I know FIBA allows citizenship changes like CStand for GER U16 / U18 then switched to PHL. , but never as high profile as Jalen Green
