it should be Kouame whom the SBP should be pushing for local classification. his basketball development is because of the Philippines.

not enough years for now. after his stint in ateneo, they should allow him to play in dleague so they can add playing in semi-pro league in d phils in his resume.

Im pretty sure they tried. It will be hard for FIBA to justify that any 18/19 yr old can be eligible as long as they stay long enough in a country when they have no prior roots/connections. Feels easy to abuse. Then again FIBA are the genuises that thought this idea but for 15 yr olds is all above board.

Newsome doing point guard duties for Meralco. His stroke is not ideal but his shots do get in. Good handles. Good defense. He will be a good candidate for the PH pool. Problem is if they defeat Ginebra he might not be available for the next qualifiers. Well Malonzo and Adams are still great candidates. Yeah, we might look like Mighty sports. Nothing wrong with that because these guys met the Hagop rule or were exempted.

I prefer pushing for our younger guys like Phillips, Lucero and Balunggay

I don't think that will work. Newsome probably got the exemption because he got his passport at 16, came over here at a relative young age and has been play for a long time. The above 3 probably didnt even get their passport at age 16.

Nah if you read the article he got it at 17. Phillips committed to La Salle at 17 and if there are delays with his passport it can be easily argued that the pandemic was too blame. Also if Newsome's case was the same as Jawatos well Jawato got his passport at his early 20s.

I think he was referring to the Slaughter route for the cases of our promising Fil-foreign players

It doesn't apply. Greg was exempted in 2018. He is 34 now. So that happened when he was 30. How old is Mike Phillips, 19? Good luck waiting 11 years for him to be exempted.

IRC Greg got his visa at age 17 and has been in the country around that age.

I mean SBP can try. But let's not get our hopes up because 30 something Newsome got an exemption.

So we need to wait for an X amount of years why would you say it doesnt apply?? we currently have Tamayo,Balti & to some extent Malonzo so no need to rush on the cases of Philipps,Lucero & Koon

Actually Newsome's case is a case for some hope since he only played 2 years with Ateneo. This gives hope to the likes of Lucero/Winston. Also if he only plays 2yrs what more 5 like Mike will probably play for La Salle. He should get his sooner. But yeah probably skipping Taiwan for the PBA is necessary for them to be eligible in the future. Hopefully, the Hagop rule is abolished by then.

With the Malonzo, Adams and Newsome now classified as locals, next Gilas team may Mighty Sports feel in it...Last 2019 Jones Cup , Asian teams cant match the length and athleticism of Mighty Sports sweeping the competition...

i actually dont understand this. so the tiebreaker times article say the writer went into FIBA portal.so no official statement, they just assumed the eligibility?

also, i went to the portal now and searched the players:
Jayden Harper -> https://www.fiba.basketball/search?searchtext=jayden harper#|tab=all
US lahat

If you click the View Full Profile you'd see that his nationality & national team says PHI

my contention is, was there a formal notice from FIBA of their classification? It doesnt matter what country they put in the profile. what matters is the official stance of FIBA. in AJEF FB group, Enzo Flojo is saying there has been no discussion yet on Harper so that article is wrong. He can't comment with the other players mention.

I believe Balunggay and Phillips both got their passport at 17, so as long as they stay here in PH, they have a high chance of being considered as a local some time in the future. We'll hold on to that hope at the very least.

Decisions for exceptions can only be granted if a case is filed for the player officially to FiBA central.
The only reason Greg and Newsome took so long isn't because they were only entitled to be eligible then, but their cases were inky filled at that late age.
The thing is it's only now that SBP is entering names in the system ,even if the player is not going to play for a specific tournament yet.
Previously SBP would only file for an exception when there was intent to use the player for a window or tournament.

Note a number of players where included in both the 3rd window and Asia cup even if they were not intending to use them , (with an application fee for exception) to get them.cleared.

You can assume a few were returned and informed some still lack years of residency for consideration. Hint the UAAP ineligibles (assume in a few years hopefully by 2025 or 2026 they will establish enough points (e.g .# of years playing locally)

You can use Jawato case, as guide on how many years domestic play did he play in Indonesia before he was granted an exception? Was it 5 years ?

So if UAAP players moved here at 18 year.old freshman bu thr time of 5th year they would be eligible exempted (just a guide)

Im pretty sure Chris Koon is a legit candidate but lacks the residency requirement pero again hopefully Koon, M.Philipps & Lucero after 4-5 years

So we can do that to Quentin Millora-Brown, Sage Tolentino, Travis Roberts, Christian David, and other Fil-fors who are good but will not likely be drafted in the NBA?

Should've done that 2-4 years ago when they were longer. Lack of foresight na naman.
