I have no problem with Kouame.

But I have a feeling that he will not be used as the NP for 2023 WC.

Seems like Gilas is looking for a "Go to Guy NP" whether it will be RHJ or JC or a new NP.

And will probably leave the big Man duties to Kai, AJ (if healthy), and I think they will still go for Junmar

If Kai and June Mar are our bigs, we will need a crap-ton of defense alongside them. We have Navarro, Balti, amd Thirdy, but we might need more than that.

But given Chot's love for offensive firepower, even at the cost of defensive solidity and versatility, adding impact defenders is unlikely.

Center: Kai, AJ (if healthy), Junmar

PF: Tamayo, Baltazar, Japeth, Troy

I bet those will be the pool of Bigs in 2023 WC.

Personally, I will cut Troy right away. Even as a Ginebra fan, I think Japeth has to give Tamayo or Balti the torch already.

I am willing to still consider JMF as backup. Especially if AJ is unhealthy.

So:

C: Kai, JMF, AJ

PF: Tamayo, Baltazar

Will be the frontline. You may worry about defense. But it is up to Coach defensive schemes. On offense, they are all good imo

At least Troy, Japeth, and Junmar have the height needed in international games.

Pogoy, on the other hand, is nothing but the "Boy Jackpot" of Gilas, not just because they have similar facial features but because he's lucky to be a mainstay, having played a total of 32 FIBA-sanctioned games in all, from 2016 to 2022, despite a shooting percentage of 25% from the arc and 41% from 2 pts.

In comparison, Ramos is a 45.9 3 pt shooter and makes 53.3 of his 2 pt shots while Heading is 33.3 and 50% respectively.

Let's thank Pogoy for his service but clearly we have other available players more worthy of his spot.

May I ask where did you get your stat? Ramos according to RealGm is 37% 3pt and was 14% 3pt in his Fiba stint this year.

Looking at the 2021 World Cup qualifiers, Pogoy and Ramos both shot bad, Pogoy at 0% on 2 attempts per game while Ramos at 14% on 3.5 attempts per game.

https://www.fiba.basketball/asiacup/2021/qualifiers/player/Dwight-Ramos

it says here he made 10 out of his 22 three point attempts.

Those stats are just for 2020-2021 Qualifiers with Tab. Dwight's last two games with Chot's iso hero-ball DDO team raised his PPG from 13.8 to 17.5 but at the expense of shooting effiency. Which make sense since that team was so dysfunctional, everyone had to iso their way just to get a bucket. Only Thirdy was efficient shooting from the field (except his abysmal 3-10 FT) as he could drive his way to the rim with relative ease against IND and NZL. Thirdy's non inclusion this window boggles my mind even more since he put up 25 pts, 5 ast, 5 reb, and 5 stls against NZL

my bad for forgetting about his games with chot, guys.

anyway, the stats and context will clearly tell you that dwight's game is elevated when he is under tab and if we have the stats on the korea friendlies the same can be said with nenad as the coach. conversely, it deteriorates when chot is coaching.

I'm still sticking to what Tab said before. No little people unless they're elite defenders (no, Kiefer does not look like 6'0 but I'm picking him anyway). I'm officially on the Abandowagon and I'm convinced he can play guard at the FIBA level the same way Baltazar can be a wing player depending on who else is on the floor. Also, no one talks about the length that guys like Navarro and Baltazar bring when they're with Kai and/or Kouame meaning that Gilas' only weakness defensively are our guards when they get switched on bigger and more athletic wings. No such issue if we have guards that are near Ramos' height and skill.

Almost everyone deteriorates when it's Choke manning the team

37% is actually a good percentage, a. But yeah, that 14% is a bit concerning, especially considering that some of those were open. He'll need to find and make open shots. Hopefully a system change would get him back on track from 3.

In relation to this, Jordan Heading has high-volume numbers which speak of how relatively good he is. He made 112 out of 320 attempts (35%) from 3-point territory during his stint at the T1 League.

Dwight seems to be already back on track after going 60% from 3, 6/10 on both South Korea friendly games. He was our best scorer averaging 23.5pts.

Guys

Is 3pt shooting the strength of our best players right now?

I mean players like Kai, AJ, Tamayo, Baltazar, Dwight, Parks, Thirdy, Perez, Kiefer, Bolick, Oftana, Heading, Thirdy, Abando, Dave, etc.

They are all capable of hitting a 3. But aside from heading and maybe Oftana. I dont think I can consider them ELITE or Knockdown Sureball Shooters.

I think the Strengths of our A team lends towards post game or inside game, or penetration.

Even the Perimeter Players seems to be more elite in penetrating than shooting.

But as I said they are capable decent shooters.

With the right system, they can make some decent amount of outside shots.

Having said that, hopefully our shooters will be hot in the right time. Especially, ikikickout talaga sa kanila after penetration

Helps that he's getting very few isolation points. Mostly on catch and shoot, PnR, and downhill actions. Less effort to score, so he has more energy to shoot and defend.

Yeah, dribble drive and shot creation ang guards dito.

Another strength of the A team, at least my A-team, is defensive versatility. Already have Balti, Navarro, and Dwight in my team, and these guys are versatile defenders.

For context, this is my 11-local A-team:

Guards: Kiefer, Dwight, Heading/Perez (if not Abando), SJ/RJ/Bolick
Wings: Abando (if not Heading/Perez), Navarro, Oftana/Lopez
Forwards: Tamayo, Baltazar
Bigs: Kai, June Mar

Need a defensive 4 or 5 for the naturalized player spot.
