Yeah, actually, it's fine if the bases of the coaches are similar. No matter who the coach is, as long as they run a similar winning system, the players who have played under that system will be fine.

However, as to players, I did say which players I prefer, but I'd rather the 2023 core be composed of players from the June 2021 group, as they have already played together in June and August 2021, and then they'll play together this upcoming window. They know Tab's offense and defense and can execute it together.

Very much agree with this. If only these SBP people have the same view as most Pinoy posters here in IBN, Gilas would be in a very good hands. Unfortunately idiots & stupids abound in SBP.

I wouldn't call them idiots and stupids. They're smart in a sense. However, they use their smarts only for their personal gain. Smart, but greedy.

Actually in the SEAG to be fair the system wasn't DDO, but rather quite similar to Tab with a lot of weakside play action and screens. Of course the execution wasn't the same , given the players selected were not trained under the system

i think to be succesful are team has to be known for defense, and the players selected are good all around defenders

Yes that is the difference in principle with Chot and Tab. Chot likes shorter but more offensively skilled players while Tab likes longer taller players that he can develop offensively. I don't know though if his defensive system can work with already slow-poke Pogoy. He tweaked it before with a slimmer June Mar. But obviously it isn't enough to copy a coach's playbook. You have to buy in to the principle. Chot's PBA honed principle of leaning on your "vets" backfired on him in the 4th when the players were too gassed to defend better or to go for loose balls. Compare that with the games against Korea. Our players were scrapping all the way up to the last second. And they won with that style.

Tab really knows what is required to win, even Ateneo vs Korea.. Jones cup, he mentioned the level of activity and detail required from Ateneo to defend Korea is off the charts. the aggesivness in defense was so intense. Tab mentioned pros would not be able to bring the same level of constant energy as well as the mental readiness and prepardness to defend that way.

I agree. But maybe his Gilas 2021 team had more longer players than his Ateneo team so the same level of activity was not needed. I get that we need to increase the level of activity. But aiming for college level activity would not be doable long term. All college players will eventually go pro unless they look for another job. I guess the long term really is look for internationally sized players and train them in their international position. After that let them play in a league where they can hone these skills.

I think they deserved to be called idiots & stupids

If only those idiots from the PBA & SBP can fathom what coach Tab was implying. Maybe they can fathom but refuse to believe what coach Tab was saying. Its as if they understand basketball more than coach Tab does.

@Jamskie

As I said in the past.

Lets create a Coaching Staff composed of IBN Posters.

Lets see if we can do better.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

@mathematicianrcg
Try first handle a youth team and join tournaments and see if you have what it takes....

Only a few eligible players from the PBA right now can successfully translate to FIBA. The play style is too far from FIBA that it can hurt the PBA players' potential in the international stage.

Offense is different, defenders are slower to close out in the PBA, except for teams like MERALCO, RoS, and Magnolia. That defense will get burned by teams like SoKor and even Chinese Taipei. Even Indonesia burned that defense.

This tells me that the PBA still needs to tweak its calls to match Fiba. But I think in some cases they have matched Fiba. Hand checks are not allowed in PBA. Did you see some players having trouble adjusting to this? I think the main problem of PBA is the lack of tall long bigs to simulate international competition. Of course a Pogoy can go to the rim if 6'6 Belga, 6'5 Ponferrada or 6'3 Hugnatan is defending the paint. It is much different when you have 6'11 Bolden and 6'8 DMX there.

In fact UAAP players might be more used to frontline size with most teams having 6'10 long mobile FSAs.

You pretty much just explained why it's better for pinoy players to play in the B League, KBL and Taiwan over the PBA. That Taiwan employs even tall Asian players like Geramipoor already puts it ahead of the PBA in terms of emulating international play(not saying it's superior but definitely less insular). I actually have no fucking clue where the arrogant implication that the PBA is the best league in Asia came from especially when PBA all stars even with a super import carrying the load are consistent underdogs against China, Iran and Korea.

it's rather because basketball in the Philippines has a tremendous market and is very popular. on how it translates to revenue is what B. League is trying to find out and now KBL wants to find out as well. i will not be surprised if in the next 5 to 10 years, there will be no more Asian Player Quotas, if not in B. League, maybe in EASL (each franchise can sign up any number of Asian player as long as he is Asian).

Im guessing so far it isnt but the EASL could be a game changer.

Suddenly remembered, this is a qualification route to the Olympics. Given these circumstances, making the Olympics outright is an uphill battle, especially if Chot is the coach, too many of the players are unqualified, and Chot screws up rotations.

Forgive me for being scared, because we got one shot at this. If we screw it up, we might not get another chance this decade, especially under the wrong leadership.

The qualification for the Olympics is very flawed anyway since there are teams (Asian and African lol) that doesn't really belong to the competition. Last year Iran made the Olympics over teams like Serbia/Lithuania/Greece & etc. That's why i prefer the WC, too bad the top team (USA) doesn't take it seriously.

if Olympics were based on two strongest best performing teams (based on WC) in Asia Pacific region, since 2000 , it would have always been Australia and New Zealand . that is just reality
